I waited patiently for Breathe, and it was published while I was on vacation for 2 weeks, so it was kind of impossible to devote my attention to it with a house full of kids and family, but boy oh boy, was it worth the wait. Her books are always full of emotion, REAL emotions, drawn out characters with amazing depth. I can relate to most of her relationship issues, and I especially related to FAye's "holding out for a hero." Love is patient, and Kristen painted that picture vividly. I always feel like I'm listening to my friends and family talk when I read her books..... her storylines, minus the crime :-), are always so relatable to me. Her steamy scenes are so realistic and so full of emotions that I whiz through her books, and I am so sad when I'm done. Breathe is just another example of Kristen Ashley's immense talent, and I have not come across another author, and I read a lot, who can move me like she does.

As usual, Kristen Ashley delivers a great romantic novel full of mystery and lovable character. I love the way she ties characters from her other books within the series and from other series. She never fails to keep me sucked into the drama!

Fresh KA - Ahhh but it's good to be back in Carnal with its loveable residents. Won't rehash the story just want to share what I liked, which will be a bit tricky without giving away any hints, surprises or spoilers. Want you all to enjoy them (and there are some really good ones) as much as I did as the story unfolds. Story opens after Lady Luck and Chace is burdened with guilt and wrongdoing for the role he played in all that went down in Lady Luck along with his intense hatred of his father (the reference to Darth Vader was priceless). Chace/Fay after eyeing each other from afar for years and having a bit of a rough start, jump in with both feet and it was all go from there. Chace is the tortured hero, and another delicious example of KA's famous alpha males. For all Chace's bossiness he can be sooo sweet and sees Faye as his miracle/ his angel. Although he feels he doesn't deserve her, thank gawd, he goes for it. For me Chase was a mash up of Tate/Mitch (my KA fav's)...alpha sweet. Faye-for a quiet shy librarian, gets her fiery temper up a times then lets it rip. Liked her character, she's no one's pushover although heavy on the geek side. Fun, funny references to several popular sci-fi TV/movies. Loved the Firefly references - Inara/ Serenity Wash...could this also be KA's alter ego inner geek showing? If so, she sure knows her stuff, if not she's certainly done her homework. Chace sure doesn't waste any time in the love department and virgin Faye is a willing student as Chace initiates her into the world of delish steamy love scenes. There are two mysteries going on during this story. One in involving The Elite (evil villains from Lady Luck) and trying to find out who murdered Misty, Chace's ex in Lady Luck. The second, a heart wrenching story with a mysteriously elusive young boy who appears in the library from time to time looking malnourished/abused and Faye/Chace's attempts to lure him in so they can help him. The second story while wonderful and endearing with a great HEA, this part of the story at times for me were Kleenex moments. Both Chace/Faye become this boys miracle with Faye as his angel and Chace as his hero. Even thinking of it now tears me up (sniff). An introduction of a new character, Chace's friend Deck is exciting since KA announced both Deck and Deke (Tate's friend) will both get their own bk. Loving it as this is my fav of KA's series. What could be better than more from Colorado Mtn, I ask you?!? There's a lead in at the end of this bk into Deck's story, not sure when KA has this one planned, anytime soon is fine with me.

I'm not a delicate person when it comes to reading books. I can read grit and grime laced with romance (or not) any day of the week. I don't mind swearing when it gets the point across, however in this book, the hero continuously said a variation of the f-word (I counted a few times throughout the book and there were several instances of it three to five times on one page, or even one sentence - this was common throughout the whole book). The heroine liked her more innocent, Sci-Fi geek version "frak" almost as much.
I did have a hard time reading the dialogue from the hero, several times needing to go back and start the sentence or paragraph over again due to the format of the sentence. I wasn't too thrilled with how the hero would speak to the heroine on occasion, but perhaps it was necessary in the author's mind to make the point of what type of person the hero was.
Overall, I'll see how I feel after the next book in the series to determine if I want to read any more.

In June, I wrote my second post about author Kristen Ashley -- from this point forward I will refer to her as KA (Ms. Ashley seems too formal and I feel like she isn't a formal kind of gal). This is my third but most likely not my last post about a KA novel. Since I recently told you all about my total and complete girl crush on KA, there is no reason to re-state the obvious. (If you didn't read that post...it is titled, "I'm Melting" and it was posted on June 20, 2012. This post will be solely based on "Breathe"... KA's new Colorado Mountain series release.
"Breathe," the fourth installment of the Colorado Mountain Series, is the story of Chace Keaton and Faye Goodknight. We met both of these characters in "Lady Luck" (the third book). Without giving any treasures away, for those of you who may not have read these books yet ( YOU MUST READ THESE BOOKS...preferably in the order they were written) Chace is a detective for the police department in Carnal, Colorado. In "Lady Luck", we saw Chace painted in two different lights... we saw him for the villain we thought he was and for the person we learned him to be. KA was able to create Chace for her readers and cast a shadow over him without ever allowing us to hate him and when she was ready, she cleared away the clouds and she showed us who Chace really was..once again doing what she does best...creating a brilliant hero.
KA writes the most unique heroes I have ever "met." They are sharp, they are physically strong, they are quick witted, they are funny and they are expressive (even though they don't always use the best choice of words) of what it is that may be holding them back emotionally. Chace was no exception to KA's rule. Chase knew what he wanted but didn't believe he deserved peace. He knew the woman that he needed but thought he couldn't bring her happiness.
Than there are KA's heroines. They are the best. In every story, KA finds a way to make her heroines strong and supportive yet soft and gentle. They are always able to stand by their man ( sometimes in front of them and sometimes behind) to help them get through their "dark". They are able to cut through the bullshit, often created by said man (isn't that how it usually is?..heehee) and once they have licked their wounds, they are able to have their man's back and guide them towards the much sough after light.
Faye was no exception. At first, she may have come off as weak due to her shyness and what appeared to be a somewhat reclusive behavior. She was made to seem vulnerable due to her virginal status and her lack of all experiences male related...yet while she was inexperienced and at times immature when it came to sex, the act and the discussion, she was well aware of the world and the way it worked around her.
When KA put Chace and Faye together on the same page sparks flew...you can only imagine what happened when she put them together horizontally. WOW!! I have no idea how KA is able to write the scenes she does...I have no idea if she is married...but I can say, she either has one happy spouse, or a really fantastic dating life!!! It isn't just the physical love that makes me melt every time I open a KA book, it's also the words declaring adoration, admiration, and love that rock my world every time I open her books. My husband just looks at me when I'm reading KA's books and laughs..he wants to know what I'm reading...he can see happiness on my face. (Hmm...do you think it would be odd if I gave him a list of my favorite lines from all of KA's books and told him to use them at random times?...just a thought..heehee!!)
One of my favorite parts of "Breathe"( as well as the other books in KA series) is that KA brings back all of our heroes and heroines from the first three books. They play pivotal roles in this book and without them, the story wouldn't be all that it could be (thank you ARMY!)
"Breathe" was another fantastic story in a growing line of fantastic Kristen Ashley books. At no point does she lose her voice. At no point does she lose her way. At no time are you wondering when the story will be over. You will, however, at several points need to be reminded to just...Breathe!
Here is my warning...this is a Kristen Ashley book. While that should be all I need to say, for some of you it may not be enough..so here I go. This book contains a ton of foul and crude language, a lot of incredible consensual sex scenes, serious situations such as child abuse and child endangerment, and a whole lot of love and happiness.

There's no bad books by this Author. KA is one of my top favorite Authors and the Carnal series os swoon worthy. KA writes what I call "Alpha-Alpha" Heroes. Her man are seriously swoon..and so Alpha that I double the name..hehe

I couldn't hardly wait for the next KA book to be released and the wait was well worth it. I love all of Kristen Ashley's books but the Colorado series would be my favorites. Once you start reading you can't put the book down or at least I can't. Now I have to patiently wait for the next one. I like how she is able to tie books together so you can keep up with characters from a different book and even a seperate series such as the appearance of Alley Nightingale and Ren from Rock Chicks.

BREATHE (Colorado Mountain Series)
Chace and Faye's story
So, Chace started out on MY wrong foot... damn boy calling her a fat a$$, telling her you don't need her concern, or her "limited charms..." you a$$!!! Rest assured, he redeemed himself right quick and in a hurry and thank God for that!!!
I usually have no problem picking a title for my review, but this story has soooo many... you'll find them all while reading along with my review they'll be in all caps!! Mostly from Faye... man do I love that chick... AND... I'm totally making PACKET TACOS this week... AND I'm totally looking up WOOKIEPEDIA!!!!!
I totally love this series... Lady Luck being my all time favorite... but all of them are unique in their own way and capture your heart and soul in a similar but different way... make no mistake... Breathe may not be my fave, but HOLY FRAKING CRAP... I certainly loved it!!!
Kristen, if your listening... girl... you can most definitely write a hum-dinger of a story... totally love that you brought all the old characters back and in a BIG way... even saw fit to bring in a Rock Chick and some dudes from the "hot bunch"... FRAKITY FRAK FRAK FRAK!!!!
Totally staying with me forever... in the words of Silas Goodknight..."A wrong is a wrong no matter who it's done to. You know someone doing wrong, even if it has nothing to do with you, you do what you can to right it. If you don't, you're no kind of person, or at least no kind of person I want to know!" Thank you for that KA!!! <3!!! SAH-FRAKING-WEET!!!!!
On top of an awesome, stupendous love story, there's this whole other world being ripped down and dissected right in the middle of Carnal, Aspen, and Gnaw Bone...and Faye opens her huge heart to it... see I told ya she's righteous showin' that backbone!!! The town's pretty, cute, sweet librarian...FREAK RIGHT THE FRAK OUT!!! I'm pretty sure I chewed two packed of Orbits Bubblemint gum throughout the reading of this magnificent book!!! My jaw is sooo sore!!!!
OH MY FRAKING LORD... the girls in this story will have you cracking up in almost every chapter... Twyla is my favorite lesbian of all times. Krystal... the best damn friend a girl could have... FAN-FRAKING-TASTIC!!!! AND those kids... Miah and Becky... what an awesome entity to this already booming story...
4.5 stars!!!

Kristen Ashley never fails to entertain with her driven, no-nonsense, tough-talking male characters. Chace is no exception; he exudes power, compassion and strength. The female lead in this book, however, is distinct from other Kristen works in that, although strong, Faye is quiet, deliberate, reserved and largely content with her life. The author gives you little peeks into Faye's strength and spunk along the way, but it's always tempered by Faye's heart-felt, logical, slow to anger reactions. The most fun element of their relationship is Faye's unease regarding and exploration of their romantic encounters. It's quite comical, yet natural and realistic--very relate-able. Chace and Faye's relationship unfolds naturally and slowly, and it's so much fun to watch. As usual, great job Ms. Ashley!

More of the same Alpha male with a heart of gold meets spunky heroine who saves him from the ghosts of his past. Still love it. Kristen Ashley has perfected this formula but still manages to keep it fresh somehow. Love everything she does!

I have read most of KA's books. Breathe is the bomb. I cried, laughed and loved, loved, loved the storyline. The only problem I have with any of her books is that they are not long enough. I never want them to end. Can't wait for Ally and Ren. Ms. Ashley you are all that and more. Thank you!

In this book you have a guilt ridden hero- who thinks his title is undeserved and the shy inexperienced librarian. In this book she gives and gives and gives. And I tell you, sometimes I ask myself, what does she get? Oh yeah, A hot hunk of love, his total loyalty, and a real life. What a deal.

The book was good but not what I've come to expect from KA. Chance just didn't come off as an Alpha Male quite the way ole Ty did. I like Faye but her answer was always..Okay. While this was by no means my favorite KA book it def won't turn me off from reading the rest of her books.

I love most of K.A books, and could not wait to read Breathe. I liked it, but not as much as her other books. It was to little tension between Faye and Chase. When reading K.A. books I come to expect alot of alpha badass behavior, in Breathe there were alot of crime/suspension, and just not enough "hummph" for me. Loved the ending, with the apperance of some of my favourite characters ever ;)

Kristen Ashley never fails me. She has quickly become my favorite author, and I hope she continues to churn out books at the rapid rate she has been going. Breathe was a sweet love story, and was hilariously geektastic w/ respect to the female lead (Faye Goodknight). We got another droolworthy alpha male in the male lead (Chace Keaton). And we also got a glimpse of much-loved characters from the Rock Chick series. I highly encourage everyone to get familiar with Kristen Ashley if you have not done so already. I recommend reading the Rock Chick series first as those characters pop up in other series. Thank you KA! Keep rockin'!

This book was at bet mediocre. The dialogue was ridiculous (as well as the characters) and the plot...What can I say. The bulk of the story deals with a case of child abuse, the characters are totally unrealistic (and at times ridiculous as well) and it was all around an unsatisfying read. I don't recommend this book at all.

PERFECT! PERFECT! PERFECT! Ms Ashley has done it again.
Anyone who is even somewhat familiar with Ms Ashley's writing, this series what have you, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Chace is the perfect blend of the tortured hero. Faye is the perfect mirror to his soul. A beautiful combo. Great suspense and heart warming moments dominate this book. And yes, it's beyond HOT!
I urge you to read this series in order. I beg you to just read any book Ms Ashley has written. Period. You will not be disappointed.
I highly recommend this read.

An angel needs a hero . . .
"I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life"
(Lyrics from "Holding Out For A Hero")
And a hero needs an angel . . .
"I've run out of answers, I've run out of time
And I'm so confused that I'm losing my mind
It's gonna take a miracle to help me this time
I'm traveling a road that has not one sign
I need an angel, I'm callin' an angel
Send me an angel down, oh singing
I need an angel, callin' an angel
Send me an angel down"
(Lyrics from "I Need An Angel")
Once again, Kristen Ashley shares her amazing storytelling talents in the latest book in the Colorado Mountain series. "Breathe" is like going through a dark tunnel and coming out the other side into the sunlight. My first impression was that it seemed less brawny but equally as commanding as the other books in the series. I won't bother repeating the plot summary since it has been covered well by other reviewers.
The driving force in this story is the depth and quality of the relationship and love building between Chance and Faye. A reader's connection with these characters is cemented through such realistic dialogue that literally brings them to life on the pages. Watching as together they prepared care packages for the young runaway, Miah, and seeing the protection they offered both him and his sister was one of my very favorite parts to this story. Both Chase and Faye are extremely appealing characters on so many different levels. Both were such generous and kind souls. They made me laugh, cry, and simply fall crazily in love with both of them. Of course, the sexual chemistry between them is not to be ignored either. It was delivered in spades and hot enough to combust, but was still portrayed meaningfully and unforgettably.
As always, Kristen Ashley provides an extraordinary treat packaged in a fabulous cast of secondary characters. Good guys/gals or bad guys/gals - they are always well-crafted and pull a bevy of emotions from readers to the surface.
A few minor bleeps on my beta-reader radar prevent me from ignoring the overuse of "f-bomb" words and minor editing problems as well. Of course, a bit of comic relief in the form of Faye's "frak attack" from Battlestar Gallactica lingo lightened the burden a bit. After reading many books by this author, I still struggle with her editing, punctuation and grammar, as well as the lengthy narrative sentence structures. I find myself repeatedly reading sentences for their meaning.
The "Force" was truly present in the writing of this Epilogue. Another treasure chest filled to the brim with all the delights readers have come to expect from this author. I would be a most disappointed reader without her tender, charming, and fun-to-read wrap ups - not a single disappointment could be found in this one. Appearances by all the Mountain Series characters, along with some Rock Chicks, delivered an additional breath of fresh air to this one.
Sometimes love takes its time
And when it finally arrives, it's well worth the wait.
An angel. A hero.
And their very own FIVE-STAR Happily-Ever-After!

I have to say that this is definately one of my favorites of all of the 20+ KA books I have read so far. The characters Chace and Faye were just so real. She was as sweet as sweet can be, naive and so very much in love with Chace. He was, as KA men are always, hotter than hell. He too is sweet with that alpha male quality we all love. Together they were awesome. Faye so dedicated to having Chace let go of the guilt he harbors for Misty's death and the life he lead over the years, a life forced upon him by a horrible father and a mentally unstable mother. The story takes on a lot of issues, dirty police dept, infidelity, mental illness, murders, and child abuse that can only be described as horrific and unimaginable. I have to admit, I cried several times during reading this book, for Chace's sorted past and guilt he couldn't seem to let go of, but moreso for Malachi (jeremiah) and Becky. I just couldn't fathom the things that went on with their young lives and it overwelmed me.....The story had many story lines, lots of suspense, and vhot sex. I just loved this book so much and highly recommend it, but keep the tissues handy.

I just finished Chace and Faye's story and I'm breathless!! OMG I loved this book and I love this author! I havn't ever run into an author who manages to mix humor, suspense , beautiful descriptions of places and people like Kristen Ashley does. This story is so real you feel like your right in there with them every step of the way! I do suggest that you start at the beginning of this series and work your way through until you hit Chace and Faye in Breathe because so many of the characters in this book are introduced in the earlier stories. I will also warn first time readers of KA to beware that the language is a little rough and the f word is used a lot. For me it isn't a problem because the story way overshadows any bad word that is thrown out there. Take a deep breath and drive in to this series and laugh and cry with the people of Carnal Colorado!!

It started great but it just got too annoying to read. Come on! Who says "frak"? I would rather hear the f word!! And really, if you substitute a filthy word, it's still a filthy word!!! And a twenty nine year old woman with a masters degree quoting Battlestar Galactica and Darth Vader? Seriously? She came off as mentally challenged.
Kristen, you've got to get a grip on your runaway prose. TMI!!! Give us the image, we can fill in the blanks.
This book wore me out...I need to go read a Cliff Note.

I've never written a review before, although I always read them before I purchase a book. The reason I am FINALLY writing one now is because Kristen Ashley is my favorite author. Has been since the day I found her on Goodreads (incidentally it was the first book of this series The Gamble). NO ONE writes like Kristen. She has a way of making alpha men even more Alpha-ier lol. And her heroines ALWAYS kick-ass.
There's not one book of hers that I didn't love, including Breathe. A sexy, protective, tender, sweet, loving, funny Alpha male? Um, yes please! And a funny, sweet, shy, cute, geeky librarian with a backbone and a crush on the hero for 12-13 years? Aww, right? Totally!! This book made me laugh, made me tear up, made my breathe catch and literally made me scream out loud with a "Holy Sh*t!!" Or "No fraking way!!" Or "You GO GIRL!!" I STRONGLY recommend reading everything Kristen Ashley has ever written, EVER! Although, I'd start with the Colorado Mountain Man Series cuz believe me, Sisters of the Book, you will be so glad you did!
I hope that this review gets even just ONE person out there to try Kristen's writing cuz that means I fulfilled my purpose in writing this review: To share the book love. I have a couple other Author's that are on my "read everything they've ever written" list such as: Kresley Cole, J.R. Ward, Jennifer Crusie, Susan Elizabeth Philips, Thea Harrison, Karen Marie Moning and Shelly Laurenston. That's not to say they are all alike or that Kristen's writing is a lot like theirs. But I figure, if someone reading this review likes those authors, then we've got the same taste and that means, you will love Kristen Ashley. I swear to you on my Holy Kindle that you won't regret it. All of her books in this series are stand alone, but it's so much more fun to start at the beginning so when you read on to the next book you can say "Hey cool, there's Max and Nina from book 1!" Or "Ohh, yeah Tate's in this book too!!!" (Which is something I do cuz Tate is HAWT!)
I honestly don't know how to express how much I love Kristen Ashley's books. I leave you with this thought...After reading this review, it's probably clear to you that I am totally a K.A. Addict. And I'm proud of it. Have you ever read a review that so highly recommends not just the book you're looking at, but ALL the authors books? No? Well, that tells you one thing, doesn't it? She. Is. THAT. Good. Do you really want to skip this book and live to regret never knowing the power of the K.A. Word?
I think not.
Read on, my Sistahs and Bruthas and ROCK ON, ROCK CHICKS!!!!

I couldn't even make it past the first chapter. Ashley used the word f**k so many times I wanted to scream. Yeah, we get that he's mad, we get that he's frustrated, we don't need to read the "f" word every other sentence. This was one of the rare instances when I asked for a refund.

Having read all of Kristen's other books, I was expecting her latest to be just as good as all the rest. I was not disappointed. She has the ability to draw you into her characters lives from the moment they appear on the page. She even manages to make more than a few of her villains sympathetic on some level. Nowhere more so than at the end of this book, with Chace's father. The dramas and difficulties faced by Chace and Faye in Breathe seem somehow subtler and yet more poignant, than in previous works like For You and Lady Luck.
Quieter, but just as powerful. A man who made the best choice of no good choices, and feels he doesn't deserve to be seen as good. A woman who just wants to take his pain away, and see he has the good she knows he deserves. A town rooting for a hero whose heroics damaged his self-worth. Throw in a few bad guys and a child really needing a savior for some suspense. Beautiful.

Loved this book! I would suggest reading at least "Lady Luck" before reading this, so that you will understand what went down with Chace, Misty, Chace's father, and the Carnal PD prior to "Breathe", and can somewhat understand Chace's mindset in the beginning about why he doesn't deserve to pursue Faye. The Colorado Mountain series is my favorite by Kristen, and "Breathe" is a great addition to it. I loved Chace and Faye together! Once again, Kristen has given us a wonderful, lengthy story at a fantastic price--I highly recommend!

So, it goes without saying that I FREAKIN LOVED THIS BOOK! Love is not even a strong enough word. KA has written a masterpiece. I'm still smiling like an idiot AND I'm still crying like a sap!
"It was wild. Abandoned. Rough. Wet. Intense. Fiery. Thorough. Exquisite. Heart-pounding. Blood-singing. Soul-rocking. Life-altering.
Luscious."
The above pretty much sums up Chace for me. I have no idea where to even start with Chace. He is nothing short of amazing and is now one of my favourite KA heroes. Seriously swooning. There is something to be said about this KA hero - he's a true hero! He curses, yes! He has made some bad decisions, not by his choice, sure. But, hot damn, he is SWEET! I love the journey we take with Chace in this one. I love how Faye helps him see things differently and helps him begin walking down the path where he can forgive himself and walk that path of redemption - even though he really did not do anything that requires forgiveness or redemption.
"Faye, honey, breathe."
GAWD, I LOVED FAYE! She is simply PERFECT for Chace. Faye is exactly who Chace needed. She is the simple, pure, sweet and funny that he needs in his life. She made me laugh time and time again from her discussions with the girls to her tirade phone call to her parents. I loved the fact that she is geeky, yet still has a backbone. I also was ecstatic over the fact that she was a reader. Finally, a heroine after my own heart - one that reads a lot (including romance novels) and one that has no problem stepping up her game for those who need her. Chace needed her. She was there for him. Pure. And. Simple.
Breathe warmed my heart. It is one of those books that you will find yourself smiling and laughing a lot; but, also one where you will cry and simply feel. Such a plethora of emotions! I want to say so much more but I am so adamant about people enjoying this book without any spoilers. There are so many moments that I want to touch on .... just can't!
Breathe is going down as one of my KA favourite reads (if not my absolute favourite). This is the case for so many reasons - the emotions I experienced while reading this book are incomparable, the twists and turns rocked me, the heart-wrenching moments gutted me AND, lastly, the first love scene between Chace and Faye was amazing. Best love scene ever! SIGH!!!!!!! I also loved being back in Carnal and spending time with some of my most memorable cast of characters - Lexie and Ty, Tate and Laurie, Max and Nina, Krystal and Bubba, Twyla (love her!)..... and so on.... beautiful is what it is!
"Ella Mae Bowen singing "Holding Out for a Hero".
And when she played it, I decided it was time he knew.
So I pressed even closer so I could fit my lips to his ear.
"That night, it wasn't Dobie Gray," I whispered. "It was this song. It was Ella Mae singing this to me when I thought you weren't all I knew you to be, which is all the words to this song. Twenty-nine years, I held out for this. Then, half an hour later, you proved every one of these words true and every moment since then, you kept doing it. I"ll take you thinking I'm your angel but you need to know you're my hero. Twenty-nine, honey, I held out for this. Twenty-nine, I held out for you."
I am so glad that Faye found her hero!!!! We all should!!!

Too dark, too long, and too much unnecessary characters. The beginning was interesting, but I felt everything after that was flat and boring. Our hero in this book cussed so much it got tiring. It didn't add to the story, but distracted from it. I did like what they did for the kid, but there was too much in between I didn't care for. Skimmed through it. Skip.

I am an awful typer (don't think that is a real word). So this review is going to be super short. I loved the story line, the characterisations seem real and amazing. Overall totally worth the asking price of 4 dollars. The book like any other KA products is looooong..... I am a fast reader and it took me the better part of the day to finish!
Faye, Carnal's librarian and Chase, Carnal's police hero have crushed on each other for close to a decade. Unfortunately extenuating circumstances ( included a tainted police dept. where Chase works, his dad who is NOT nice to put it mildly, and a murdered wife who conspired to trap him) forced them to stay apart. Enter a mysterious young boy who steals books from the library, looks heavily abused and malnourished. Faye walks into the police station looking to help him, Chase runs into her and its a whirlwind romance from then on! Some things might seem a little strange if you haven't read the preceding book in the series Lady Luck but again a minor blip.Loved both Faye and Chase. Especially Chase! He was so fractured at the beginning and after getting involved with Faye, the healing process was beautiful to read. I still have issues with KA's punctuations and grammar as well as the non-linear narrative but those were minor blips and did not register for the most part.

Have loved all of Kristen Ashley's books and was waiting for the story of Chace and Faye. It was wonderful...wonderfully romantic, wonderfully funny. Am just amazed at the ability of K.A. to give you all you want in a romance. Once you read one of her books, you are hooked!

I know the usual problems with KA's writing, the heroine is always whispering, people repeat themselves five or six times to convey emotion, family and friends seem way more intrusive than normal humans act in reality, but, I am addicted to the relationship between the protagonist and her over the top heroes. I actually liked the characters in this book, but there were a couple of ticks that drove me crazy. One, just because you like sci-fi TV shows (and I do), doesn't mean that you relate these shows to all human interaction in reality. When you are talking to your parents, you don't start calling them cylons (WTF) and you don't go off about Angel and Darth Vader to your boyfriend. For one, thats over the top annoying, and two, its really weird. Its not cute, its a sign of a mental disorder and not being able to separate a TV show from reality. I thought I would be able to relate to this heroine, I watch the same shows, am always reading, and am close to my family. But one, I do not hold thirteen year crushes on guys, I do not go off about Buffy the Vampire Slayer in normal conversation, and I do not use made up curse words from science fiction shows. Plus, no family is as intrusive as this one is, especially on first meeting a family member's significant other. The author made the characterization way over the top.
Another big problem I had with the book was the fact that Chase had stayed in town just so he could eventually marry Faye. Apparently he spotted her, knew she was made for him right away, and planned their whole future in a grocery store aisle. Now, in normal human land, he would logically ask her out, start dating, meet parents, etc. Instead, he decided he needed to get the "wild" out of his system by having sex with as many sluts as possible (ie Misty and others) before approaching Faye so he would only give her "sweet". Wow, so, you see the girl of your dreams, and instead of snatching her up (you know, before one of the hundreds of hot guys who apparently live in that town do) you put her on ice while you get a reputation for sexing it up around town. I can only guess that if Faye had gotten her "wild" out, Chace would have been okay with that. I mean, fairs fair. Instead, Chace's brilliant scheme of getting his "wild out", led to him being forced to marry Misty. Now, in his defense, Chace realizes how stupid this was and how instead of being married to the conniving Misty, he would have been with Faye this whole time. Of course, Faye being sweet and forgiving (unlike me) shuts this down and says its not a big deal. Um, yes it is. For one, he was married to Misty for six years; I'm not sure why Faye didn't have one good date this whole time, but she conceivably could have. Apparently, part of her attraction for Chase was her virginity, did he expect her to hold it while he was getting his wild out; even before the Misty fiasco. And two, that is terribly insulting. Chace felt that Faye was his for the taking once he got his whoring out of the way; most guys would see the woman of their dreams and do everything to grab her before some other guy did. Not manly-man Chace, apparently, when he decides he's ready for a woman, she jumps off her ice cube and runs to him. If I was Faye, I would have been appalled that he thought he could just grab me up when he was done having sex with every other woman in town. She decided to be flattered; to each their own, I guess.
And if you are reading this book for the suspense part, just stop. Most everything happens off screen, and I don't really see Chace doing much detective work. I'm not sure how good of cop he actually is, since the author never showed us.
This book had a lot of promise, but, it was a hard read. If you read Sweet Dreams and Lady Luck (which were actually really good), just grit your teeth and read this one to find out what happens with the town. If you haven't read those two, I would skip this one. Not worth it.

I couldn't stomach any more. I felt like I was reading a book that an 11 year old boy had written to impress his friends. Poorly written, and as I read, I just kept shaking my head thinking "what the frak" am I still doing reading this crap? I thought with all the great reviews It must be something wonderful, but I'm so not going to read reviews anymore. Maybe if I allowed myself to keep reading, I'll start to feel differently, but right now, I'm just mad at myself for purchasing it.

This is the most boring book I have ever tried to read. The characters are bland. The plot non existing. I tried for over a period of 3 weeks and just couldn't finish it. Don't waste your money. I' read many of Kristen Ashley's books some are good some are terrible, this book is the worst so far.

If you like the F bomb then this is the book for you, I counted 12 on one page and at least once on every page after that. I'm not a prude, normally I can't say I even notice. I bought this book after reading the description and some of the reviews. Romantic suspense not hardly. I couldn't find myself to even like the characters. The hero was a jerk and not one that you could warm up to and eventually like, ever. I couldn't understand why the heroine would care for the guy when he kept telling her to leave him "the #### alone". After reading the first chapter I had to come back to see if I ordered the right book. The author also went on and on about describing each and every detail to the point of distraction. I found myself glossing over some of the words just to get to the point she was trying to make. I tried to finish because I paid for the book only it wasn't enough to keep me reading. The story line had so much promise but just didn't deliver.

Not sure how this book got such a high rating. I forced myself to finish it. The premise sounded interesting & with a different author, it might have been. Yes, it has emotional scenes, lots of sex. But lots of affectations that were so overused.
The main character "Faye" whispers EVERYthing and "Chace" drops F-bombs in almost every sentence whether it's a complete sentence or not. This is the author's sole descriptors to convey emotion. It got old. And when Faye couldn't whisper, she used an alternative swear word: FRAK. Again, apparently, the author doesn't have a large vocabulary.
The plot lines were slow to move forward and tortured. Even the ending dragged on. There were epilogues to the epilogue. Enough already!!

>Book Review – Breathe
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 4th in the Colorado Mountain series and ends in an HEA. Faye has lived in town her whole life. She is now the librarian. She has had a crush on the local cop, Chace for the past 13 years. In silence, she watches Chace marry someone very inappropriate and take down corrupt officers. When Chace finally notices Faye, sparks fly. Chace isn’t comfortable being called a hero, as he really doesn’t feel like one at all.
>This story includes a homeless boy that is in distress and some pretty gross blackmail involving Chace’s father. Chace’s motivation behind marrying Misty is explained, although why Misty ever thought Chace would fall for her is unknown. There is a mystery of who killed Misty and some on-line hackers are involved. I love the interactions between Faye and Chace. Their relationship is so fun.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. The scenes with Chace and Fay’s family are super funny and really make the story seem real.

I'll start my review the KA style:
This book. not overhyped, fraking overhyped. Too long. A let down.
Seriously.
The dialogues, frak me, are unreal. In a bad way.
Chace, unsexy.
The virgin bookworm librarian? Held 0 books throughout 250 pages.
A hot guy gets excited just looking at her, and she's a virgin at 29. Pretty hard to believe, and KA didn't bother convincing me.
Too many details, timing wrong.
Whispering, chuckling and grinning all over the place, maybe something in the water giving Tourette.
Back to normal writing mode,
The story is about a 29 YO lonely virgin librarian, and a 30 something haunted up cop.
"Chace doesn't think he's the good guy everyone believes him to be...Through his choices, he's come to believe the pretty librarian is too good for him, but after their time in the woods, Chace realizes that she may be his last chance for redemption."
Their time in the woods - less that 10 minutes of him standing in the woods thinking dirty thoughts and asking what she's doing there, her not telling, him telling her to go away.
Chance, the alpha male is just confusing. He starts off as a jackass, 1/4 way through he metamorphosed as Dr. Phil, all nurturing and understanding.
The cursing is mostly ridiculous, he sounds like a 10 YO trying to be a tough guy. "**** me we're out of milk" is a kind of thing Chase might say.
Lastly, I've seen my share of blue eyed blond muscular unsexy men. So no, It isn't enough to make me believe a character is sexy.
And Faye. Well, nothing told about her is true. She is no bookworm. She has no backbone. Is lacking minimal self-respect has to do with her shyness? Because after being rejected unceremoniously, you end up dancing with the guy at your (literally) one bedroom apartment and not call him up on that?
I didn't buy the "I've been secretly in love with you for 13 years" when both characters didn't even speak to each other for that period of time. That's a crush, not love. You fall in love with someone you have some kind of interaction with.
The dialogues and how characters react to one another, sound unreal. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but I don't know any people talking that way.
For instance, I don't get anyone calling each other honey, in a 3 day old relationship, it sounds fake (I overlooked the babe and darlin', since we are in Colorado).
Chace wants to meet up at 18:30, Faye gets off work at 18:00 and gets home at the same time. It's inconvenient, but she says ok. Chace reads her mind, and "gallantly" suggests to meet at 19:00. DREAMY!
But who needs to talk when you have a clairvoyant boyfriend?
Chance has a bad day, and won't talk about it. Faye makes a big deal of speaking and getting things out, but when that doesn't work (Chace wants to cuddle and sleep) she suggests they have sex instead. Way healthier.
They have a paragraph of a discussion, if Faye should or should not stand by the door with Chace. (don't, I wanna, don't, I really wanna, OK).
Faye reacts to the sad story of Chace growing up with an overbearing father with whispering "that doesn't sound fun". You don't say! Are you 16 years old?
Too many details and at the wrong time - Like someone knocks on the door. I'm dying to know who's there, I bet Faye does too, but she decides to start a mind monologue about Chace's workout schedule and physic. Which would be logical, if the timing were half an hour earlier, when he was getting Faye her first manmade orgasm.
And I didn't even mention the de-ja-vu I got from the Rock chick book I read, which finally made me drop this book after 250 pages.
I started my review after giving this one 3 stars, but by now I think 2 is more accurate.
This book. not overhyped, fraking overhyped. Too long. A let down.

I need to stop reading KA for a while. My heart still lies with CHAOS and the Dream Men, but this was good too.
The h is a real sweetheart, is a little (lotta) bit of a geek, and has adored the H for years. She reminds me of Haley and her fists of fury from Playing for Keeps. She is a virgin, while the H comes with so much baggage it needs its own SVU. He has an ex-wife. His ex-wife is a dead ex-wife. His dead ex-wife was a murdered, dead ex-wife. His murdered, dead ex-wife was murdered in a particularly humiliating way. Plus he never loved her, and last but not least his father is no bueno.
With so reviews there is little need to go into the plot as it's been done. I will say why I liked this: the heroine is both adorable and adoring, and the hero is quite appreciative if it all and her. As with all KA heroes, he's alpha and more than a little possessive. He's not my favorite guy (can't put my finger on why), but a good solid read with fun characters and more than a little suspense.
Ally, Darius and Ren from Rock Chick territory make a brief appearance.

So I am torn, I have always said The Gamble and Sweet Dreams were my favourites well Breathe is right up there.
You had me at “Holding out for a Hero”, my favourite song ever and so Faye is now a favourite KA girl. Faye is fracking fantastic and her love of books just makes my heart beat harder for her. For someone so sheltered she has such a backbone and her interactions with her family provided wonderful humour.
I always have been intrigued by Chace and this story gives us his background which is unfortunately sad. He is a strong man but so torn.
I really loved how this story finalised all the back stories and links from Sweet Dreams and Lady Luck. I would highly recommend you read this whole series in order as each book has characters from the last.
There are great secrets revealed in Breathe and lets not even discuss the dramatic event for Faye and Chace. I literally was beside myself with fear and trepidation.
A wonderful character and old friend for Chace is Deck who played such a great role.
Finally, the way the author gave us closure for so much of this story at the end was perfection. I was left totally satisfied with knowing how Chace and Faye ended up along with all the other characters.

Faye and Chace have a heck of a road to travel on to get to their HEA and I loved every bump. There were times I laughed because Faye was goofy, or times my heart broke because of what Chace was going through. My heart pounded with the action and suspense, and I smiled at all the feelings that my mind was trying to shift trough. The author did an amazing job at brining in some of our favorite characters and making us love new ones. Chace and Faye are such amazing good hearted characters. I really loved them to pieces and when they got their HEA, I had tears of joy. If you want a hot alpha male and a women that has her own brand of sass, then this book is perfect for you. Can be a standalone, but it’s best to read Lady Luck to get some back story on Chace and the whole town. 4 Stars #OCCJD

Ordered this book for my Kindle. Thankfully within the first two pages I had heard enough of the foul mouthed hero to decide he wasn't my type. I really couldn't get it off my Kindle fast enough. I felt robbed.

Oh, I enjoyed Chace and Faye's story. I suspected I would after seeing hints of them in the previous book in this series, but I really had a good time reading this. I still feel like the author could use a heavy hand with editing -- I really don't need Chace's house described down to the last detail. Just tell me it's masculine. I don't need a description of his end tables and lamps. And once again, too much plot. I feel like the author has written a thriller and a romance and put both books together, but not always in a good way. Like you just settle into the romance and it takes a turn and becomes a thriller. Still, I end up having a good time with them and smiling at the end, which is the sign of a good book. Gonna take a breather from this author for a while because dang, these books are long and require an investment of time I'm not feeling at the moment, but I'll come back.

Sometimes a good book gets ya right in the gut... does somethin to ya and you think about it for a long time. This was one of those for me. I wasn't sure about Chace Keaton, of course he redeemed himself in Ty and Lexie's book. He done good by them and in the end we learned some things about him that made him one of the good guys. In this one, we get to know all of it.
Faye, I absolutely adored her, she wasn't like the other chicks I was used to reading from KA.
Quiet and reserved but no less strong and boy did she prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt in this book. Having been in love with Chace for well over a decade, she thought he didn't see her... he did, there just wasn't anything he could do about it, then when he got free of a bad situation put in by his father, he thought he didn't deserve her. It was a heartbreaking start; for both of them but when Faye incounters a boy who's being beaten coming to the library she turns to Chace for help.
It's a little rocky, but they work together and the way they connect to help this boy is amazing, his story is also heartbreaking and although I wished that he'd have gotten to stay with Faye and Chace or her parents, I was so happy the way it turned out. The ending just about gutted me.
It was the definition of a beautiful ending and that's part of why it's going to stay with me for a long time.
I absolutely adore this author, I adore every story she writes and I get to experience and although I've read and re-read the majority of them over and over again, I just can't stop.
Don't pass this one up!

Breathe is the fourth installment in Kristen Ashley's contemporary romance/romantic suspense series titled: Colorado Mountain. Breathe is classic Kristen Ashley- sexy, sweet, suspenseful, funny, and heartwarming. The characters are interesting and relatable, their romance is seriously hot, their personal struggles pull at your emotions, and their motivation to do good just makes you want to jump in the book and help. The suspense element is also classic Kristen Ashley, which is a good thing. By this point in the series, you know it's coming and that knowledge just puts you that much more on the edge of your seat wondering when. If you haven't yet tried this series, I do recommend it. The books are long, but the stories somehow stay fast-paced which makes the length bearable. If you're an audio gal, the audiobooks are well-done- I've personally listened to all of the books up to this point. Check it out!
My favorite quote:
“I'll let you in on a secret, honey. The knight who has serious chinks in his armor but never falls is the true hero. That means he's won battles and doesn't waste time polishing his armor so he can look good while he rides in parades that are tributes to his glory. He just drags himself back on his steed and keeps right on battling. And if he's the right kind of knight, he never rides alone. The best heroes inspire loyalty. The best heroes keep fighting the good fight, tirelessly, quietly. The best heroes always have scars. If they didn't, the heroine would have nothing to do. It's her job to help the hero let all that stuff go in order that her man can be strong enough to fight on but when he's with her he's free to just 'breathe'.”

While reading Lady Luck I had my doubts about Chace Keaton. I honestly thought he was a dirty cop, though I was also confused about his relationship with his wife Misty, which really wasn't one. Still no one deserved what was being done to her, and it doesn't sit well with Chase. He can not let it go and is still looking for the perp. With his head stuck in a bad place, the last thing he thinks he needs is for sweet innocent Faye to meddle in his business.
Faye has had a crush on Chase for the past thirteen years or so. While she mostly has her nose in a book, it doesn't mean she's unaware of what is going on around her, certainly when Chase is nearby. She never knew what drove him to mary Misty and it kind of broke her heart. Now things have changed and it seems this little librarian is on his radar. Faye sees he's hurting and when circumstances seems to keep throwing them together, the connection between them becomes undeniable.
With all the bad in his life, Faye might just be what Chase needs. Someone good, sweet, honest and tempting. Chase wants to give them a chance, but he's also afraid. With all what has been happening recently, Carnal isn't the safest town anymore. Also not everything is completely out of the woods yet. There are still people who want to control him and the people in town. He has given in to that for a long time, though hated every minute of that. It was all to protect those he cared about, but it was destroying him. No longer can he do that, he still feels so much guilt over that past it's nearly eating him alive. With Faye by his side, he can slowly let that go if only they would let him.
Even though these books all go through the same pattern; with two main characters falling for each other carefully, one of them usually has a bad past, that's not done interfering, some criminal element to up the drama and tension, and in the end a happily ever after which they had to work for very hard and there are definitely tears involved. It's a pattern that I love. I just get swept into the story and I find it wonderful that the stories are long, so I get to enjoy them for a good while. Usually I try to read one book each week for a series, but this is the fourth book I read in one week.
The characters were once again wonderful. Like I said, I had some doubts about Chase, but he was able to convince me in the end. The way he treats Misty wasn't really right, but the circumstances he was pushed into, I believe many would have done and acted the same. Now I'm just so glad he got to let all of his past go and give real happiness a chance. Faye is so recognisable. She's a total book geek and I thinks she's awesome. The fact that she waited for the one was kind of admirable, and some might even say romantic, though I think she mostly took a very big risk. She put all the stakes on one horse and she was very lucky that in the end it played out well. Realistically Faye was on her way to become single cat lady. In book world she got exactly what she wanted all along, her own happily ever after.

Simply amazing. Beautiful story. I was pulled in from the start and felt it all.
Excellent writing, flow, and development. Rich, detailed characters full of depth. All of it, from beginning to end was so great. Passion, emotion, drama, bits of humor, lots of hotness... it was just this well thought out story and I was completely lost to it.
I adored Faye. I loved her. Her unyielding strength and care for others. That unconditional love that just made your heart feel full. I think Chase might be one of my favorite Kristen Ashley heroes. His sweetness wrapped up in protectiveness was amazing. I loved their story of coming together, their battling of demons and growth. It was sweet, funny, heart felt, and intense.. and super hot!
There was a great cast of characters from other stories involved and I loved how they were connected. I thoughts they were integrated well. All the different players really helped round everything out.
There was another story connected to what was happening between Faye and Chase and it was wonderful to read. I thought it had a very powerful message and found it really touching. Love how it all played out!
Solid beginning, middle, and end. The epilogue was perfect. I cried. I cried several times actually. I was so pulled in, feeling the relationships and hardships, the drama, I can't help but be emotional invested. I had a ton of questions, things that carried over from other books and I was thrilled to get closure.
Kristen Ashley is a favorite of mine. I have never been disappointed, ever. I know what I'm going to get and its always spot in. Excellent story, development, and characters that I can get lost in. She always makes me feel something and I am always hooked. I cannot say enough good things.

Faye Goodknight is the quiet, shy librarian in Carnal, Colorado. She may also be the towns last virgin considering she has had a huge crush on the town's hot cop Detective Chace Keaton. Since Chace has always been unattainable being married then emotionally unavailable trying to find his wife's murderer. Until one night she runs into Chace in the very woods his wife was murdered and things come to a head, and it seems they are running into on another more and more. Chace has been in the thick of the mud and dirt and Carnal PD and doesn't think he is clean enough to ever gain the affections of Faye Goodknight. When things start coming up from Chace's past he must fight everything in him and trust that Faye will see him through to the light on the other side.
This story had me in tears, and tears of laughter then tears of joy. It should have been called Tears or some such instead of Breathe cause I felt like that is all I did throughout Chace and Faye's story. The characters surrounding Chace and Faye where so well done and made you want to know more about them. Especially Chace's mother and father...why they were the way they were and how did they get to the position they are in now. I liked Chace in Lady Luck *Ty and Lexie's Story* but Breathe made me fall for him....I think Ella Mae Bowen's Holding Out For A Hero was the perfect song for Detective Chace Keaton.! I also have to suggest the scene where Faye and Chace are arguing after the dinner with his mother was amazing and really showed a side to Faye that was truly amazing!

Breathe by Kristen Ashley is the fourth book in the Colorado Mountain series. It’s the story of Faye Goodnight and Chace Keaton, and their struggle to find true love.
Faye is the town librarian in Carnal, Colorado. She does not have much experience with men. In fact she’s never had a boyfriend and she is a virgin. But she still notices the opposite sex, especially Chace. She has been in love with him for half her life. But he was always been otherwise involved and she was never able to let her feelings be known.
Chace is a cop for the police department, a department that has been corrupt for a long time, but has finally been cleaned up. He has done things in his past that he is not proud of and he believes he is not good enough for her. But when he spends more time with her, he realizes he wants to make her a part of his life.
Faye tries to avoid Chace but then she notices a young boy who she is concerned about. He has been stealing books from the library, although he always returns the books, and he looks as though he has been abused. Faye is concerned about the child enough that she goes to Chace to tell him about the child.. As they work together to find out who the boy is and who has been abusing him, they begin to grow closer. Will they both give in to their feelings and find true love with each other, or will their pasts stand in the way?
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read, although a long read. The writing is very descriptive and I found myself being pulled into the story. At times, I felt like I was right there watching the happenings first hand. The characters are well developed and three dimensional. But at times I feel that Faye was not very believable. She just seems too naive to me. I do not think that she acted like a twenty nine year old, but rather someone much younger who has not lived life at all.
I thought the storyline had a good mixture of humor, suspense, romance and family dynamics.. Not only did Faye and Chace have to find the abused child and help him, but Chace had his wife’s murder to solve. This brought suspense into the book and I enjoyed that. The family dynamics between Chace and his family was interesting and not quite normal. I also enjoyed this aspect. I thought one of the best parts of the books was the caring relationship that occurs with the abused boy. It was both heart-wrenching and heart-warming.
One thing I did not like about the book was the language. I know that, at times, using swear words are needed to make the story seem more realistic. I get that and can appreciate that. But in this book, I think the swearing was overused. I feel that the author was forcing the words out of the characters mouth just for shock value. Even Faye’s girlfriends are not excluded from the language, and that just seemed too over-the-top for me.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a romantic suspense. I do not think this book is appropriate for a young adult, due partly to the language. I think this may be a series that would best be read in order. I have not read any other books by this author but I think I will give book one in the series a try.

My Thoughts:
Breathe, the fourth story in the Colorado Mountain Series, was another phenomenal story. I never want this series to end. Whenever I need a guaranteed good read, I dive in to my Kristen Ashley pile of books, and she never disappoints! Each story in this series can be read as a stand alone, but I think you get the most out of the series, if you read it in order.
In Breathe, we are still in the little Colorado Mountain Town of Carnal. All of our favorite characters from previous books in the series are there, and let me tell you, I can never get enough of Tate, Laure, Ty, Lexi, Krystal, Bubba, Max and Nina. In this addition to the series we get Chace and Faye's love story. Chace works for the Carnal Police Department, and is viewed as a hero in his small town. He does not view himself in the same light even though he helped the town shed a department full of powerful and corrupt cops. He has always had a thing for the sweet, innocent, and beautiful librarian, Faye Goodnight, but never thought he would have a chance with her.
Faye has fantasized and dreamed of the day when Chace would notice her. She always has her head stuck in a book, and is a romantic at heart. She's looking for a hero to make her life complete. She has her dream job, a great apartment, and independence. However, she is lonely, and wants someone to share her life with. Now that Chace is available, Faye has hope that they will find their way to each other. With the help and advice of Lexi, Laurie, Krystal, and Twyla, she's ready to make her move. However, Chace is in a dark place in his life right now, and surrounded by his own personal demons, and it will take a very special and strong woman to penetrate his walls.
Breathe was another breathtaking, sweet, and sexy romance. Ms. Ashley sure knows how to write stories that emanate sensuality, suspense, adventure, and romance. Faye and Chace were extremely strong and well developed characters. I felt like I knew who they were, because they were crafted with so much depth and realism. I felt like I knew them. I loved Faye. She always had her head in a book, and was a bit introverted. However, she also had a bit of a feisty side to her. She stood up for what she believed in, and has a very generous heart. Chace was a very strong, and courageous alpha male. He as a leader, who was well-respected, and had very protective instincts to those he loved. I couldn't help but fall for his character! Faye and Chace had such an amazing romance. There was a lot to this story. Plot twists, suspense, mysteries solved, and a thrill ride a minute ensued throughout the whole story.
My Rating:
I give, Breathe, by Kristen Ashley, 4.5 Sizzling, Suspenseful, Seductive Fraking Filled Stars!!! Read this whole series! It is amazing, and Breathe was everything wonderful that I have come to expect from the Colorado Mountain Series!!!

["Breathe, baby."
I breathed.]
It's no coincidence that the title for this book is Breathe. Just as Chace has to remind Faye to breathe, I had to remind myself. This story is breathtaking in its beauty.
["Faye, honey, breathe."]
Faye Goodknight is Carnal's quiet, bookworm, town librarian and she's my favorite female character ever. She's reserved and sweet, but she's got a fierceness to her that endears her to you over and over. You can't help but see her through Chace's eyes, and just like him, you're powerless to keep yourself from falling in love with her.
["Fought the pull of you. Lost."]
Detective Chace Keaton has demons. His wife recently murdered. His wife a woman he didn't love. A woman who sunk to the lowest of lows to trap him into a sham marriage for six years. A woman who he hated but still should have protected. A woman whose murderer still ran free. He's seen a lot of ugly in his life, and he isn't prepared for the beauty and light that Faye brings.
When the two of them unexpectedly run into each other one night, it's not under the best circumstances. Fate seems to have a plan though because even as Faye goes out of her way to avoid Chace, they're repeatedly thrust together.
Chace doesn't know that Faye has been carrying a torch for him, much less for how long, and Faye doesn't know if the town's most handsome cop even knows she exists. When he is caught off guard one night by the beautiful librarian, he lashes out at her, and effectively shatters the image of the man she thought him to be. It's painful for her to come to terms with and she's trying to do just that one night when fate intervenes once again, and Chace interrupts her late night walk.
["You been cryin'?"
"No."
"Honey, I got eyes."]
This night is the start of something so beautiful. After the horrible things that Chace has seen and endured, Faye is exactly what he needs. She's so good, and pure, and sweet, and just everything. She's beautiful all the way down to her soul. And if anyone deserves to have that, it's him.
[“For a long time, a long f*ckin’ time, Faye, nearly six years, I thought it was certain I’d never have anything as beautiful as the last three minutes. Thank you, honey, for giving that to me.”]
Chace is heralded as the town's hero, but it's a title he's not only not comfortable with, but feels he's not worthy of and openly rejects. He's consumed by an inner darkness that weighs on him heavily. But all of that darkness is no match for the light that Faye throws on it, lighting up every dark corner of his mind and his heart.
[Chace Keaton stared down at Faye Goodknight, her head against the pillows of her bed, her body under his and he wondered how in the f*ck six years of misery led him to all the promise that was her.]
Faye doesn't see the darkness. She sees a man who is beautiful and good and fierce. A force to be reckoned with. She sees a man who is the truest meaning of the word 'hero'. And she's determined to make him see it too.
[“Twenty-nine years, I held out for this. I’ll take you thinking I’m your angel but you need to know you’re my hero. Twenty-nine, honey, I held out for this. Twenty-nine years, I held out for you.”]
I'm a huge Kristen Ashley fan. The Gamble was my first book by her, and it has and will hold a special place in my heart, and I thought it would always be the reigning champion of her books for me... but Breathe is now tied for first. When I think back on this story, my heart is so full of Faye's light and it aches with love for Chace. Kristen Ashley books always reign supreme, but Breathe is on the top and it's one you absolutely have to read.
[He wasn’t falling anymore for Faye Goodknight.
He wasn’t halfway there.
He was gone.]
And when you do read this book (and you should!), do yourself a favor. There's a particular scene where Chace and Faye are dancing to "Fade into You" by Mazzy Star. Listen to it. Trust me.

This installment of the Colorado Mountain series focuses on hunky Carnal police officer Chase Keaton (35) and shy librarian Faye Goodnight (29) who happens to still be a virgin holding out for her hero. Chase is still wrestling with demons from book 3 and Faye wants to see him heal. This book is amazingly good. Kristen has the unique ability to weave tragic stories and circumstances into these romantic tales, yet you still feel that they are believable. The reader still comes out with a sense of optimism and knowing that love can triumph even in our jaded modern society. That is one of the things that I really enjoy about Ashley's writing style. You do not have to suspend belief to get a happily ever after. Not that escapism isn't great, I thoroughly enjoy being asked to suspend reality and take a trip into a completely outrageous world. However, Ashley allows you to have conflict, tragedy, and gritty reality with love, passion, and compassion triumphing adversity in the end. It's nice having the amount of good eventually outweigh the evil. This is the second book in this series that has made me cry and I love it! I am not a big book crier, but Ashley keeps getting me right in the gut. There's a scene where a young abused boy calls Chase his Aslan and that Chase makes him want to be Peter and well bring on the water works! If you don't get this literary reference you need to immediately go to your favorite means of buying books and buy The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis right now and read it. It's one of the books that I required both of my girls to read and they loved it too, thus proving that they really are my biological children. On a lighter note Faye uses my all time favorite swear word liberally: "frak". I use "frak" in a variety of combinations; freakin' frak, stinkin' stankin' frack, and the new version that I have learned from Faye and will definitely be incorporating it into my rotation of swears "frickity frak frak frak". oh yeah, that's a winner. If you are looking for a good series to start I can not recommend this series highly enough.

Breathe. Was. Frakking. AWESOME. I loved loved loved loved every single thing about this book.
Starting with Faye Goodknight. Out of all of Kristen Ashley 's heroines, she is the one I identified with the most. So much so that my husband sometimes calls me "My Faye". Faye is a librarian, always has her head in her e-reader, a sci-fi geek (a good thing), shy and quiet, though very strong in spirit. She inexperienced in love and relationships, and while that hasn't applied to me in many, many years, I can identify with her shyness and innocence in spirit. But clearly, Faye is more awesome than I could ever be. I just love a heroine whom I feel "speaks" for me.
Faye has been in love with Chase Keaton for thirteen years, from a distance. Age difference, life, and a steamy pile of poo kept these two apart. But once they get it sorted, Chase and Faye were a brilliant couple. Chase loves everything about Faye, and it was the sweetest thing to see him embrace Faye exactly as she was. Chase was pretty fabulous himself. A man determined to live right, clean, and free of the filth that corrupted his life. Chase provably initially infuriated me less than any man in this series, with the exception of Max.
Breathe has a beautiful love story. And I love how Kristen Ashley writes intimate scenes. I find myself getting so caught up in these moments, and am always surprised to realize that the words she uses and the scenes she creates are not very explicit at all. She just has a way of building intensity and steam without giving away very much. I love it.
I can't quite believe I am actually saying this, but I love the Colorado Mountain series even more than Rock Chick. While both series are awesome, this series has more relatable characters living easier to identify with lives. Minus the murders and kidnappings, of course. The heroines in the series range in professions, life styles, and ages ranging from twenty-nine to early 40s. The men vary from a (wrongly convicted) ex-con Harley mechanic to a contractor, a cop, and an ex-NFL pro/bounty hunter. So maybe most of us can't relate to everything about these folks, but we can relate to their feelings and experiences in love and relationships. I can't wait to continue my love for this series with Jagged.

A. Ma. Zing. To be honest, I hadn't been particularly interested in Faye and Chace as a couple so I put off reading this installment in the series for longer than I normally would have. But as I have lived by the words In Joss We Trust for a long time, I will now add: In Kristen Ashley We Trust. (And the fact that Joss Whedon comes up big in this one makes me want to award an extra star beyond the 5 I'm allotted.) I can't believe I doubted her for even a millisecond.
SPOILER:
Hands down best break-up/make-up scene I have ever read. Having gotten to it at 1 a.m. with my 4yo asleep in my arms, I almost gave myself a hernia trying to keep my laughter inside so as not to wake him up when I came to the Star Wars part. And, oh my goodness, some of those lines... "For a long time..., Faye, nearly six years, I thought it was certain I'd never have anything as beautiful as the last three minutes."
And Miah's speech--Aslan! Oh, for heaven's sake. I totally lost it.
END SPOILER
Although I own it in paperback, I will probably go ahead and buy the digital version, too, just to have it alongside all my other KA books on the Kindle.
The only downside as far as I'm concerned is that this book should come with a warning: do not read if you want to get anything else done over the course of a day. Dangerous territory in that regard.

Another sterling contemporary romance from Kristen Ashley - we're back in Carnal for the story of Chace and Faye. This is one of my favourite plot lines - the tough, protective alpha hero with the sweet and really rather geeky heroine.
There's a heartbreaking tale at the centre of this story about a homeless child, Malachi, living rough on the streets of Carnal and his plight is the driving force that brings Chace and Faye together. Malachi's story will tug at your heart strings and helping him allows Chace and Faye's caring natures to really shine through.
So, Chace. He's absolutely typical KA hero material. He's bossy, domineering, given to outbursts of jerk like behaviour, protective, caring and super hot - everything we've come to expect in a KA hero. He's had a lot to contend with in his life so far - everyone who should have been there for him, has not been and people have taken advantage of his loyalty. He considers himself tainted by association with `dirty cops', a storyline from Lady Luck, and is suffering from a serious dose of low self-esteem.
Enter stage left - Faye Goodknight. Never was a heroine more aptly named. She may be the heroine of the novel but she is the good knight in shining armour come to rescue Chace from his lack of self-worth and show him what he means to her and everyone else in Carnal. Faye is a sci-fi geek sweetheart - she's a 29 year old virgin and, after reading her for a few pages, I realised she's one of us!! Chances are, if you're reading my review, that you're a romance novel addict, always got your head in an e-reader and have a harem full to bursting of drop dead gorgeous fictional boyfriends at your disposal. This is Faye - she's definitely one of us!!
I really don't know how likely a very beautiful, well-educated 29 year old virgin actually is in modern day America, but KA writes Faye well and when she finally gives up that virginity to Chace, it's really everything you could possibly hope it would be. Rather surprisingly painless, but deeply romantic and tender. Every girl should have a Chace as her first!
Chace and Faye take a fabulous journey together - each of them growing with their love, becoming the person they always should have been. They complete each other. There is an absolutely thrilling and suspenseful climax to their story during which I could hardly breathe and, as always, a really great epilogue. Kristen Ashley really does give good epilogue! There are also several scenes with all the Colorado Mountain men together - truly a KA fangirl's wet dream!
Things I loved
Faye reading a hot sex scene and wanting to try it out with Chace afterwards. Sound familiar girls??
Faye's `righteous' cyber-buddy Serenity.
All those mountain men together.
The promise of a Graham Reece novel.
Deck.
So, why 4 stars and not 5?
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I felt I'd met Chace before - he's extremely similar and possibly interchangeable with several other KA heroes we've read before. Also, some of the sentences are overlong, especially speeches given by the central characters and I think some more stringent editing would probably improve these books.
But, it's still a fabulous KA romance, very much in her usual style.
4 stars contemporary romance.

Now everyone knows that I love KA books. There is no secret in that. But this story is a hidden gem. This one is often overshadowed by Sweet Dreams and Lady Luck, and although both of those books are incredible, I think Chace's and Faye's story is so incredibly deep and powerful.
Chace Keaton has been through hell. For years he has been in a marriage he didn't want, being forced into it by a father who he doesn't respect, protecting a mother who falls apart incredibly easily, and working for a corrupt chief. Basically this poor guy has been through the ringer. When his wife is murdered he has to face the guilt of never loving her and has to deal with the men who work with his father wanting him to help cover up the backlash.
Faye Goodnight is the ultimate geeky good girl. Never been touched by a man, lives in her head, is a librarian and is quietly beautiful. Seriously I feel for this poor girl who has always had a thing for Chace. But the thing I love most about Faye, other than her awesome geekiness, is her huge heart. She has seen a kid suffering and wants to help. So she goes to the newest hero in Carnal, Chace Keaton.
What our girl Faye doesn't realize is that Chace knows her and has always wanted her as well. Things get hot and steamy fast. Totally a beautiful story of first time love, healing and redemption. Chace finds life can be good, if you are strong enough to face the bad. Faye learns that fairytales and dreams can come true if you are willing to put yourself out there.
One of my favorites of all time. I give it 5 lipsticks.
One of my favorite KA reads. Very romantic and achingly funny dialogue. What happens when the good girl librarian loves the bay boy cop from afar? What happens when he decides to pursue her even though he's filled with the surety that he isn't worthy? KA has once again written a novel that based on its premise should follow a sterotypical plot, but it doesn't. The romance and plotting are fresh and unique. The boy in the story breaks my heart and his valedictorian speechh that the novel closes with is a mammoth gift to the reader. The boy provides an unusual lynchpin on which everything (multiple conflicts) pivots. The librarian gets her man and has a HEA.

Breathe is the fourth book in the Colorado Mountain series and features characters that we have met in the previous three books. In fact it follows on from the story in book 3 so I would recommend that you read the books in order to get the most from them. Breathe tells the story of bad cop turned good Chase Keaton and the shy geeky nerd virgin librarian Faye Goodknight. Faye lives in a fantasy world of books where she is holding out for her hero who she believes is Chace. Faye has secretly been in love with Chace for thirteen years and has been saving herself for him. Chace is filled with guilt about his wife's recent murder. A wife who he detested and in no way lived as man and wife but still, he feels that it is his fault he didn't protect her especially in the way that she was killed. So with Chace spending his time consumed with guilt whilst investigating the murder he has no idea of Faye's feelings for him or of the fact that Faye is about to get his attention.
I like the Colorado Mountain series by Kristen Ashley the first two books The Gamble and Sweet Dreams were the best though. The third book Lady Luck was ok and this one I have missed feelings about. It took me quite a while to read Breathe as it didn't hold my attention enough. Chace was a decent enough character and I loved Faye and her geeky side who kept talking about Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, Supernatural etc but for some reason at times this book dragged a little. The story has the usual Kristen Ashley plot boy meets girl, boy and girl struggle with relationship, girl gets kidnapped, boy and girl live happily ever after, and even though this happens virtually every book it never gets old because of the way Ms Ashley uses characters and words to draw you in.
The highlight of the book for me was the ending. Faye's kidnapping was dark but it was the character from another Kristen Ashley series that made a guest appearance that was the icing on the cake. For me there were highs and lows to this book so I am going to give Breathe 3 stars.

Kristen Ashley has this wonderful ability to write my kind of man and wonderful books. There is never a book where the leading man is just so-so, he is always a ¡§I NEED him!¡¨ Chace was an absolute ¡§I NEED him¡¨ kind of alpha male.
I would have to say that the reason why I loved the two characters Chace and Faye is because at first their interactions were very rough; they did not get along at all. This friction made all the little steps they took that brought them closer to a couple status made it more monumental. Plus the fact that they were such good people, even though they were just characters. Faye¡¦s concern for Malachi and what she does for him just made my soul warm and toasty.
As for their relationship, I really liked how this was Faye¡¦s first serious one and Chace was her (HOT) teacher. There was just something pure about their connection with each other and it really bonded them together so when their characters experience terrifying events, they have each other to lean on.
When I first opened Breathe on my Kindle I saw that it was almost 10,000 pages (roughly 550 regular book pages) and I thought that it was going to take me a while to read it to the finish. Not that because it would be a boring read but just because it was a longer book than normal and that I unfortunately have to work º However, I finished this within a day because it was read that just sucked me in.

I didn't give this book 5 stars, not because I didn't like the book, but because the writing style was a little hard for me to get used to. I won't bother detailing the plot, because it's been done already. What I liked the most about this book was the geekiness of the female main character. It isn't very often geek girls get to step out as more than the funny sidekick. I wasn't sure about the male lead, as he was a jerk at first, but he grew on me. For those who are bothered by swearing (I don't) this may not be the book for you. I thought the author did a good job with the secondary characters as well, too often they are just cardboard cutouts to further the plot, and that wasn't the case here. This was my first book by this author, as I don't read much romance any longer, but I will give her other books a try.

This was a re-read of Breathe for the oh, I don't know, 5th time. I love this book. LOVE IT. Each time I read it, I see something new, or I see something in a different light.
Faye is a wonderful heroine, IMO. She's smart, knows who she is, is happy for the most part with who she is. I love that in a heroine. Did she do stupid things? Yes, but I think its normal stupid stuff. Not TSTL stupid stuff. Loved her inner dialogue. Loved her when she got pissed and went all geek. I loved her kindness, her generosity, her gentleness.
Chace, oh my poor Chace. I didn't know what to think of him from Sweet Dreams and Lady Luck. But once you get to know Chace, you have to love him. I mean I love all KA Alpha guys, but Chace is up in the top for me. I think because although he is an alpha, he's also got a more softer side to him. He shows his feelings (and not just angry, bossy feelings) more than other KA Alphas. As I learned how he grew up, and then what happened to him, I just wanted to hug him and make it all better.
There are not many authors whose books I can read over and over and over again, and still find interesting, still make me feel strongly about the characters, and still make me cry. Kristen Ashley is my Queen and I cannot wait for more!

Holy FRAK!! Amazing, simply amazing! One incredible book. But then of course it would be, it's a Kristen Ashley book! I freakin love Chace and Faye and all of the other characters in this story as I do in all the books that I read from KA. This book had some many elements to it and of course it stayed true like all the others. Drama, mystery, passion, fighting, loving, heat, this has it all. I cried, I laughed, I fell in love and I also stood on my feet at one point and freaking said "Yes, you go, girl! Holy s***, I love this book, freaking love it" while my kid sat there with his mouth open and closing, looking at me like I was crazy. Seriously one amazing read!! Recommended!

I loved this story, the main characters connect in a way that I wish I could. Chase has been burned by his involvement in his fathers mess, Faye has loved him forever but was too shy to let him know. Chase cant believe that he has a shot at the one woman that he could have seen a future with and is kinda a real jerk to her to make her leave him alone. I started off really not liking Chase but he came around and decided that he couldnt be so horrid to the sweet Faye. It was a wonderful love story and ended with one of my greatest fears. The suspence that builds is crazy and the final answers are kinda sad. I love how the books of the series all weave around each other and the interaction with old characters adds to the fun. Also the tag in to the Rock Chicks series gave me a new addiction. :) Wonderful story, great characters! Highly recommend.

I am a 100% fan of this series so I just melted into the characters and story and didn't over-analyze it or sit looking to pick it apart. This was nice meeting another character and lifelong resident, librarian Faye, of Carnal. I loved Chace and found their romance to be sweet and hot. The most heart warming element was the boy Malachi/Jeremiah and the love poured out on him by Faye, Chace and Faye's parents. I got a kick out of all the geeky references to some of my favorite sci-fi TV and movie series. I found myself laughing time and time again! SO refreshing. The terror at the end in stark contrast to the joyful several scenes which proceeded it made for one huge memorable finale. I can't say enough about this book and the whole series. We actually went out and bought a cabin in a small town in Colorado while I've been reading these books. I'd say the portrayal of this town (and Gnaw Bone) is pretty spot on for small town, rural mountain CO, just maybe a little more colorful and dramatic.

I am almost done with Gamble. I think this is my third reading. I am enthralled with the entire series. Lady Luck is my favorite. I'm not too fond of Kaleidoscope. I think Breathe is a tad weak compared to the others, but still good. Finished Bounty for the second time two days ago. Too much pondering so I skipped pages. I liked the story line and the people in the story. I own two, Gamble and Lady Luck. Gonna have to purchase the others so I can have them with me wherever I go.
Thank you.
Thank you.

This was better than Law Man but the H was still too much an a-hole for me to really warm up to him. The h was okay but again I felt she was too much a pushover in the beginning. Definitely not enough groveling after the things he said to her.
The author knows how to write a cute epilogue though...the writing style is just to long and rambling for my taste. And the heroines are way too spineless (I hate to say it, but borderline dooormats) and the Heroes are jerks that are too easily forgiven.

This is not the first Kristen Ashley book I've read, and it will not be the last.
Because I love her.
That's right, I said it! I love Kristen Ashley.
Not only are her heroines funny, smart, strong, and just all around likable gals, but no one, and I mean NO ONE, can top KA's alpha males.
Chase Keaton, is no exception.
I was reluctant to read this installment because I absolutely adored Ty and Lexie's story, and I was wary about Chase's hand in that, but boy am I glad that I did.
Chase was just as badass as every other KA H, and Faye was just as wonderful. I honestly loved everything about this book, but because many people don't trust reviews with nothing negative (myself included) I shall mention a few things that might be a turn off for some readers.
While this is one of my favorite things about KA's alphas, they are absolutely alphas. They are controlling and jealous and dominant and, when they feel they need to be, mean and Chase is no exception.
Also, more than a few scenes in this book are sex scenes, straight up. There really is no 'kinda' about it, KA gets down and dirty. Again, I love this, but, again, some people might not.
Finally, there is a lot of cussing. As in, a lot-a lot. If you have read any of KA's other books, you are already aware of this, but just...be prepared.
So, would I recommend it? Abso-fraking-lutely. (That was an insider joke from the book, you'll think it's hilarious if you read it, I promise)
Is it worth the money? Oh, yeah.
PS: for those of you who read Breath and got as OBSESSED with Deck as I did, the sixth installment of CMS should be released February of 2014, and that is Deck and Emma's story! **cue fangirling**

Very difficult to review this book. Mainly because it had soooooo many plots or sub-plots. Too much going on for me.
Some story lines (like Faye Goodnight's unrequited love for Chace Keaton,) were adorable. Faye's character, a geeky, shy librarian was 4,5 stars. When she first saw Chace, she was sixteen and "fell-in-love". Chace was 22 and had moved to Faye's small town of Carnal to begin his law enforcement career. Her adolescent crush was not based on reality but an active fantasy life. She went away for college. Then earned her Master's degree and returned to Carnal as the sole employee of their town's library..
Fast forward 13 years later. Faye was Carnal's sole town librarian and Chace was now a Detective with the Carnal police department. Chace noticed she ALWAYS had her nose in a Nook and brought her e-reader everywhere. One night, around 2 am, Chace was in Harken's Wood at the scene of his late wife's murder. Faye was hiking in the woods and stumbled upon Chace. It was their first conversation in 13 years.
PROS:
- Faye's character.
- Faye's family
- Mystery of Malachi, young boy who borrowed library books without checking them out but always returned them in the night drop slot later.
- Faye's geeky interactions with two other like-minded people she met in a scify chat room.
- Faye's language (substituting frak for the f*** word) and logical responses to Chace
- Malachi/Miah and Becky.
- Taking action to set a wrong right even if your attempt does not work.
- Silas Goodknight's fight against the corruption in the Carnal Police Department
CONS:
- Chace's language (too many f*** bombs in each sentence). Tone it down!
- Chace's relationship with his father. They had been estranged since he was 17. When the book began, he was 35.
- Too many people in the book. Seriously, I could not keep everyone straight. I wanted/needed a glossary of names and how they related to Chace.
- Epilogue. It was endless. In fact, it reminded me of the final Lord of the Rings movie (which seemed like five endings). I cannot comment further on the closing without sharing spoilers. Suffice it to say...It finally ended!

At first is was hard for me to read this story, Faye is so innocent yet not. I'm not used to that there are some parts I was like 'really?' Or an eye roll happened. With that in mind, know that I quite enjoyed this story and it was a fun read. I enjoy Chase he's a sweet man, he thought he was messed up in the head the only thing is he had yet to find someone to help sort him, but one thing the I truly appreciated about Faye was that she wasn't afraid to ask advice about anything.

This book has the F word with in the first two pages and the writer is a woman and must have tried to write for truck drivers. because she uses it in every-other word, I come from a family of Police officers and they would never address a woman as What the f are you doing up here? as she does in the first two pages of her book. And saying that the officer wanted to put his **** in her . I paid for this book and deleted it before the first chapter even was over. Filthy and potty mouthed writing is not what it takes to sell books !

Great book. Fayecis a girlvafter my own heart. Chase is not as dreamy as past Ashley heroes but he is great in his own right, considering his jacked up past. Love recconecting with the citizens of Carnal and them coming together to save one of their own. But Miah, loved him and his strength. That epilogue though really wrapped it up. No other epilogues compare

Chase is by far one of my top 5 Kristen Ashley and all time favorite heroes ever. I loved this story so much. The song I need a Hero will always be special to me and I'll always think of Chase and Faye. I adored how patient he was to her and how he loved her and she loved him. To see Faye come out of her shell and to see Chase help with those kids , it just melted my heart, captivated my mind and I didn't want to leave. Kristen Ashley you amaze me..and I would be happy just reading your book over and over again.

I fraking LOVED this book! :) I felt it was a little more emotional than the others due to the story line of Malachi, which had me in tears both good and bad, and therefore greatly added to this book! I absolutely loved Faye! She is so sweet and smart and introverted with her head always in a book, I can definitely relate! In the last book, we got to see a small bit of Chace and it wasn't great, not terrible either. In this one I fell in love with him! I think Ms. Ashley definitely writes her heroes for this purpose! I've read plenty of connected series and can honestly say I have never been over the moon for every single male lead in that series! I am very sad its over and can not wait for more in this series! I am most definitely looking forward to Deke's and Deck's stories! So get to work Ms. Ashley! :)

F$#@, F×#@, F÷×@, F×÷@ing-dialogue from him. (What did Chase even look like, btw? He wasn't described.) Frak, fraking, awesome, awesome again and gonna-dialogue for her (She came off sounding more line Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemint High than a librarian with a master's degree.) All the 2-3 star reviews here hit it on the head when they explained about how fraking stupid this book is. Chase comes off as a serious jerk. She comes off like anything but an educated librarian. Entire paragraphs of repititious dialogue and a plot that is just thin, buried in the awkward, endless descriptions of things that have nothing to do with the story; all make for a waste of time. I borrowed this sad excuse for a romance from the library. I'm so glad I didn't buy it.

I had never read Kristen Ashley books before so I was pleasantly surprised that the dialogue was so much fun! I have gotten so tired of the same over-used expansive dialogue and enjoyed the short bursts of conversation which so easily gave you an insight into the feelings of the characters. There's lots of cursing and sex, but the steamy parts are again written in a fresh way from many other books I've read. It was a very fun read and made me giggle a lot! I'm also a sci-fi nerd so I enjoyed those references.

When I first started this book I had previously hated Chace. I thought he was an arrogant, pompous, JERK! After reading this book I understand why Kristen Ashley made me hate him only to find out that first impressions mean nothing when it comes to the Hot guys in her books.
I loved Faye so much. She was brilliant and she made my heart curl. She was amazingly quirky and funny in all of the right ways.
The additional of Malachi in the story gave the whole story twists and turns that I did not expect and made me truly love this story. Kristen Ashley is amazing and I love that she can write a book that has you going from beginning to end.

The chemistry between Chace and Faye is sizzling. They have an awesome love connection and really care about each other. They are loving and kind and open their hearts to two children who desperately need saving. This book is a real page-turner, filled with suspense and excitement. Between the kidnappings and murders, Chace often has to remind Faye to breathe because he always has her back and therefore, she has nothing to worry about. However, there is way too much profanity and it tends to disrupt the flow of the story. I received this book, free, in a Goodread's First Read's Giveaway. Thank you!

Had I not read Kristen Ashley's Dream Man Series and Chaos Series I would have enjoyed this novel much more; particularly the character of Chace. Ashley is a master at bringing dream men to life in her books. The three star rating is for a sensational story but one that lacks originality. Chace deserves to be his own man and not a clone from the men in the motorcycle club Chaos. I'm still a fan.

I've never read a Kristen Ashley book I didn't like and Breathe is no exception. This has strong, interesting characters, a riveting, lengthy, action packed romantic story and great dialogue. Chace is a cop and a good guy, but has made some mistakes in his past and is having a hard time forgiving himself. He is a tough, alpha male, but isn't afraid to show how much he cares about the woman he loves. I love the way he treats Faye and how he is both tough and yet vulnerable and love the epilogue that wraps everything up. There is nothing better than getting lost in a Kristen Ashley book.

When I was in my teens, I would fall in love with certain books and characters - in romance novels primarily. And being a fanciful young woman, I would mourn my completion of those novels and wish that they could've gone on forever; I wanted to know all the stuff that the author left out; I wanted to know the characters better; I wanted to know how their lives ended up; I just wanted more. Which brings me to my point.
"Breathe" is the detailed book that I daydreamed about as a kid. The story itself is beautiful. I loved Faye and Chace; they balanced each other perfectly and who doesn't want to see two people who've wanted wanted to be together for ten+ years finally get their chance, right? Right.
Having said that, Kristen Ashley seems to be either fundamentally against or simply incapable of trimming off the fat for a leaner and more refined novel. The upside of that is that as Chace and Faye's relationship progressed, I remember having the sense that I was settling in with them; it was a nice feeling. The downside is that somewhere around the 18th hour I started getting impatient, I became extremely bored with the numerous sex scenes and hopeful that I was near the end.
The things that I found a bit irksome are 1) How Chace, and some of the other male characters, spoke in fragments and not full sentences. Maybe that's how mountain-men speak, I don't know, but it still made me scratch my head a bit 2) I'm not a shrinking violet when it comes to profanity, but there were times where even I tired of the frequent use of the "F-bomb" 3) The conflict concerning Chace and his father was extremely unlikely and everything that happened subsequently didn't jibe.
Happy reading!

Angels deserve heroes and heroes deserve angels. So true, so true... Faye and Chase were each other's destinies and I loved reading their story!
I had big anticipation for Breathe because the Colorado Mountain series is what really started me on my Kristen Ashley crazy reading obsession. I had read Rock Chick years ago when it first came out. I loved it and KA's style, but she didn't have any other books published at the time. It seems now I can hardly get through a week with out reading or rereading a KA story to get my fix.
Her typical elements were all there. It started with a bang, Chace had his share of A-hole moments to get my juices flowing and it had a hot, stirring romance between a virgin and a broken cop. The courtship was very arousing because of Faye's inexperience and Chace's he-man qualities in the bedroom. I still blush occasionally when KA writes her sex descriptions and dialog. Sometimes Chace's choice of words were shockingly direct and made me flinch...in a good way.
Faye has to be one of my favorite KA heroines. She was innocent, vulnerable and sweet; family oriented, dedicated and such a big, fat LIAR! I loved her backbone! Faye had a brand of quiet that was strong and fierce and boy, could she grandstand when she got pissed. A couple of scenes I was cheering her on, thinking you go girl!
There was a murder mystery to solve which was introduce in Lady Luck. This was my only slight criticism because I didn't really care about it. There wasn't a huge plot development or new information to make me overly concerned. I think mainly it lacked my interest because there was another side story that overshadowed it so greatly. Malachi/Miah was a homeless boy that totally stole the show. His story had me holding my breath with anticipation. His life was harsh and brutal and I was so into finding out about this fierce, broken boy that my focus was completely surrounding his circumstances. He brought out my emotions several times. It was heartbreaking, but yet beautiful in how Chace, Faye and her family took care of him.
The story was also about Chace's evolution. He had a lot to overcome from the ending in Lady Luck, going from bad cop, worse husband to hero. I knew eventually all those wonderful attributes I have to have in my heroes; possessive, confident, protective, as well as, gorgeous, sexy, and all alpha, would reveal themselves in Chace.
So yes, the story structure was familiar, with amazing characters, mystery and violence, and at times the hero's crude dialog was present, but "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is my motto. You won't be disappointed if you are a fan of Kristen Ashley, with her alpha heroes and her style of writing.
The epilogue was so precious and just how I like my endings. It was like the energizer bunny...it kept going and going and giving and giving until my satisfaction was guaranteed. I mean let's face it, I never want a KA book to end, I am too in love with the characters so it was perfect for me to have a gazillion happy endings.

4.5 stars, Faye is my favorite heroine so far, she may appear to be a shy librarian but let me tell you this kitten has claws. she stands up for herself I loved it. Sooo many things about this book were so good! I have to say, KA writes some pretty sweet epilogues
Chace was divine, the other California Mountains men make an appearance and we have a Nightingale and few others from Rock Chick in this one, yay!
This story was intense and tragic, yet sweet and heartwarming all at once.

I discovered Kristen Ashley, and I am so glad I did. Her characters are so real, and her sex scenes very lively!
I have read quite a few of her novels, but so far Breathe is so far my favorite.
I think any book of Kristen' s will be a delightful read!

Another 5-star for KA, my third book of hers thus far and she gets that for 2 out of 3. Faye was pure light inside and out. She was cute, sweet, geeky-funny and smart, too. Love her and Chace, too. Loving epilogues by KA. Never leaves you hanging. Great closure.

This book was OKAY. Not much drama. Storyline wasn't very interesting and I found myself just wanting to finish it. The characters fell for each other early and there weren't many bumps in the road. The main characters weren't sassy or funny so there wasn't much to laugh at. Good love story but not as interesting as the others in the series.

I knew nothing about this book or the author before reading. They had a sale so I picked it. I am so happy I did. This was just a cute and romantic book. But it also had mystery and added drama. Fell in love with Faye and Chase and wish so badly there was a second book just about them. Only think I didn’t like was the voice of Chase. Didn’t match the description of him in my minds eye but that’s just me. Definitely give it a read!!!

I bought this because of the high ratings. I saw several that said it was the best book they have ever read. Uh....really? Wow.
The characters were likable enough, but too often I found myself saying "oh, come on!" And I swear, if one more person "whispered" I was going to scream! Claire "whispered", Chace "whispered". The whole town "whispered"... dumb.
And this book is way too long. Now, I have nothing against long books, I read them all the time. But long books need substance. This book is just long for the sake of being long. Once the main plot plays out, this book just keeps on going. The whole last part just rattles on and on about nothing significant. Its like the author had a set amount of pages she wanted to reach and just kept going until she reached that number.
The story had potential, but it never quite reached it.

I love this book! I thought the part where Chase and Faye make love for the first time is one of the sweetest moments I've ever read. You will just have to read to see why! I love the plot and epilogue to this story it is very interesting and kept me wanting more each chapter. Now some things bothered me about Chase but in the end he turned out to be the perfect "hero" for Faye. And Faye is awesome she's totally nerdy and sweet! KA has done it again, this is my second favorite book of this series. Can't wait for more to come.

First let me get my dislikes out of the way that being one. There is a few grammatical errors and typos in this book in the beginning, this was very surprising to me for a Kristen Ashley book. That being said I was skeptical when I read the description for the heroine being a 29 year old virgin ,but Damn if I didn't love this book. I cried at parts of the story with Miah and was sad and touching. Read this one if your a fan it's not her best but it's up there.

All I can say is that I consider Kristen Ashley an excellent author/writer. This Colorado Mountain series is good though my favs have been her Dream Man and Chaos series. Do try to read this series in order if at all possible though I am reading out of order and still can follow-she pens good works.

It was extremely boring! I just really couldn't get into Chace or Faye. Faye was super annoying and just blah. Chace was....I'm not even sure but he was more a B-rated character who tried to come off as cool! I don't know. Honestly, "The Gamble", "Sweet Dreams", and "Lady Luck" are the best in this series. After that, it's just really downhill from there. I honestly wouldn't waste my money with this one or the others in this series.

BREATHE by Kristen Ashley.
The style is like the author's other books I've read. The best part is the way the guy treats the girl. He's so devoted to her. He desires her intensely. There's a lot of dating, being together, and sex. It's very loving. He only has eyes for her. I think that is the reason this author is sooo popular. The guy is overly alpha and financially well-off which adds to the appeal.
I enjoyed the first part of the book, getting to know the characters, Chase a cop and Faye the shy librarian. I loved the side story about the homeless boy Malachi. It was solved and satisfying.
You need to be ok with a lot of swearing. Chase uses the f-word almost every other sentence. Faye uses the word frak (in place of the f-word) about once a page when she's talking.
MY PROBLEMS:
The main plot was not developed. The bad guys were thrown in. Most bad guys didn't have names. There were no conversations with bad guys. We didn't see any of their actions. I didn't know any motivations. During the major crisis a new character comes in and solves all the problems out of sight of the reader. There were no details. Just sort of "oh, bad guy dealt with, victim is now safe." Then some vigilante justice is done, again with no details for the reader - just vaguely summarized.
There was a murder in the previous book "Lady Luck." A second related murder happens in this book. Both of those murders are unsolved at the end of the book. But in the epilogue there is a "by the way the killer has been caught." Again this was "told" instead of showing the reader details like name, motives, connections, actions, conversation. I would have liked a lot more with that.
Another problem was narrative mode. The story is going along fine in 3rd person various characters. Then all of a sudden the next section or chapter starts with "I wanted to ..." or "I drove to..." My reaction was "I" who is "I"? It took me out of the story and I'm thinking about "me." Each time I had to stop and remind myself that "I" is Faye. This was annoying. The author did several of these 1st person Faye sections. Other scenes had Faye in 3rd person. I was uncomfortable with the changing narrative mode. Point of view changes are good, not narrative mode.
The last half of the book felt too long and drawn out. I was impatient. At times I wanted it to be over which is the reason I rounded down to 2 stars instead of 3.
DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person all characters, plus 1st person Faye. Digital count story length: 11,071 (477 KB). Swearing language: strong frequently used, including religious swear words. This was my first book by Kristen Ashley. And I freaking loved it! I totally connected with these characters. I was totally invested in their happiness. I adored Chace. Just absolutely adored him. Not at first though! At first I wanted to kick him in the shin too. ;) But once he decided to go for it with Faye, I was hooked. So was she, neither one of us stood a chance! I realize I read this out of order, but I didn't feel lost. She gave enough background that I felt I knew what had been going on in Carnal for awhile now. I'm going back to read the rest of the series, and probably the rest of her books! This is what I look for in my romance - something that grabs you by the heartstrings and doesn't let go. Ms Ashley does not disappoint! <3

This was my first book by this author and I'm very torn about the rating. On the one hand, I thought the romance was solid and the love scenes well written and sexy. The hero Chace was Alpha hot and Faye was sweet without being cloying. That being said, there were just so many other things that pulled me straight out of the story I cannot rate this more than 2 1/2 stars.
Chace Keaton is the hottest detective in the small mountain town of Carnal, Colorado. One with a dark past and secrets that tear him up in inside. Faye, the town's quiet, sweet librarian has been secretly crushing on Chace , who also admires her from afar, for years but circumstances and fate have kept them apart. They come together finally teaming up to solve the mystery of a young boy who has been stealing books from the library. Faye suspects the boy is being abused and enlists Chace' s help to get to the bottom of the situation. Pretty soon neither of them can keep their attraction under wraps and the sparks fly.
Sounds like a good read and it could have been pretty close to perfect had it been shortened by about a hundred pages. If there ever was a book that need it a good editor it is this one. The level of description is insane. For example, one scene where Faye and Chace are eating pizza and the author actually writes out every time one of them picks up a slice and chews it. Phones do not just get picked up. The hero picks up the phone, pushes the button and puts it to his ear and repeats the entire exercise upon hanging up. This got really tedious really fast. There were also lengthy , repetitious monologues coupled with exhaustive descriptions that took up pages upon pages. By the time the character got to the point I had already forgotten what had happened three or four pages back. Another example of too much detail every time Faye and Chace had sex she had to go clean up. He would tell her to . Do I really want this level of reality in my escapism? Do I have to read that Faye changed into clean panties? I should hope if she changes into something that it is clean. Do I want to read about it? Nope. The dialogue was also curiously worded at times. Sentence structure was super wacky and questions were always statements which meant that not only was I, the reader, confused but also the character had to repeat the statement to clarify it was a question in the first place. Confusing to say the least. There was also a lot of whispering going on. Everyone and I mean everyone whispered. I get that Faye was a librarian but what was everyone else's excuse? Every other line of dialogue was whispered. It was really annoying after a while. In the end, I found myself skimming too much to justify giving this book a higher rating. There was a really good story here it just got buried and I find I do not have the patience to dig through crazy, repetitive, super long paragraphs about useless info like the fact that the mayor's daughter had a traditional Quinceanera party. Things like this filled up this book and did absolutely nothing to move the plot forward. Too bad because it really had a lot of potential and I really would like to find a new favorite contemporary author. 2 1/2 stars.

This book was amazing! Chase goes thru hell and back, forever knowing that the woman he wants, the life he dreamed of will never be his. Faye has loved him since she was 16yrs old and when he marries the town slut, she knows he will never be hers. Chase is dragged kicking and screaming into the dark side of the town of carnal's crooked police department and saddled with a woman he hates in order to protect his mother from yet another breakdown that may prove irreversible. How these two finally find their way to each other is one of the most beautiful stories ever told. I laughed, I cried and at the end, I couldn't help but love Chase and Faye.
Kristen Ashley had done it again, taking us back to Carnal, visiting with old friends and giving us a story that was fan-fraking-tasic!!!!

This was what you want in a romance novel. I totally hot hero with alpha ways. I nice heroine who can be strong when she needs to be without being a b@tch. Some drama, some romance, some heat, and characters you love. When you read and it makes you feel like you are watching a movie because you are so into it is what you want to spend your money on.

I have to admit, I already purchased this book on my Kindle when I discovered this wonderful author. All of the books that she has written are just that darn good. I NEEDED them in paperback. Like I said, awesome reads. Please, don't pass by Kristen Ashley when you see something she has written.
Chase is an awesome, troubled hero. I love him. I'm not entirely sure if he is my favorite alpha of the K.A. tribe, but he's ranked up there. I loved Faye just as much. She reads just as much as I do, and appreciates a fine male specimen. The drama always happened just when you needed it to, same with the sentimental parts that made me melt, or the steamy parts that had me fanning my face.
Over all, as you could probably tell from my previous statements, I love all of her books. Enjoy your reading!

I love this book so much...have read it several times and it never fails to make me tear up and laugh out loud. I relate so much to Faye...nose in a book, geeky dork...the references to Fringe, Battlestar Galactica, etc...are hilarious and I totally get her. Chace is a dream..yum even though I could still slap him for some of the things he said to her early on. Great read, over and over!

Let me start by saying I am a total kristen Ashley groupie, but this one just fell short. The heroine, Faye, annoyed the living he'll out of me. I hate hate hate book virgin's. But throw in beautiful but reclusive book virgin at 29 years of age and I fought disgust. I mean come on. This book had to be a record holder in the term "cute" being used. I.just personally found it to be tiresome. The plot was just overly predictable. I'll definitely be reading more of KAs work in the future but this is not one I would personally recommend.

Chace is now the town hero after helping expose the Carnal PDs corruption, but he doesn't feel like a hero and he can't get over the guilt of his wife's murder. When Faye, a woman he has wanted for years, keeps popping into his life he pushes her away, he doesn't deserve her after all the things he has done. But after her sweet unpracticed kiss and seeing her upset he can no longer resist innocent allure.
I have been waiting for Chace Keaton and Faye Goodknight's book for what seems forever! But it was well worth the wait. From reading the previous books in this series I wanted to know more about Chace, after spending so long pretending to be a dirty cop and trapped in to a sham marriage to a woman he hated I finally wanted to see him getting what he deserved. Faye, the town librarian, shy, quiet, beautiful and has been in love with Chace since she was 16 was not only perfect for him but is one of my favourite heroines. Another reason I love Faye, she CLEARLY has amazing taste, anyone who loves Firefly and Battlestar Gallactica the best programmes EVER is automatically AWESOME.
This book is mainly sweet romance, watching Chace and Faye getting closer and closer, but there is also an ever present threat from the people who had Chace's wife killed which adds a tiny bit of suspense to the story. And I also have to mention Malachi, the homeless boy they are trying to help, it pulls at all the heart strings and helps bring Chace and Faye together whilst also adds something extra to the story.
I loved this book, it is one of my favourites this year, it has everything I love in a book, a romance I can connect with, some steamy sex and a bit of suspense.

Don't stop until you read the rest. She's amazing! She knocks it out of the park EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Kristen Ashley has done it again and again! This my third time reading this book & her Colorado Mountain Series. She never disappoints! If you haven't read one of KA's stories yet, I soooo envy you! You got lots of catching up to do with so many wonderful stories. Like me, you'll read them over & over because you do not wanna leave her world of bad-ass alphas who truly love their strong women. ROCK ON!

Again I read this book out of order. I love this author. I love how she ties the characters in her book together. You know I have to start at number one. Go to her website and get the book order. I haven't read a book of hers I didn't like yet.

I'm sure this book would of been interesting but I couldn't take the profanity. I'm no angel when it comes to my vocabulary but the continuous usage of the "F" word was not necessary. I ended up returning the book.

The storyline was interesting. It didn't have a completely predictable ending. It could have been much shorter though, without anything missing from the plot. There were a lot of redundant explanations, but overall I enjoyed it.

Another fantastic story from Ms. KA. She never disappoints. Chace and Faye's story is awesome. Has enough sex, humor, plot twists that keep you wanting more. Loved the epilogue too. This story deserves much more than 5 stars. Loved, loved, loved it.

Do all people in Colorado use shut word numerous times in each sentence they utter? also do all men use bad language when describing their lady loves? I Like the stories but dislike the overused curse words

Breathe was just not for me. I've read about ten k.a books and this was the longest it ever took me to finish one of her books. (2 wks) I don't know if it was an editing issue but this seemed like a rough draft. I liked the geek terminology but whenever Faye would speak it would be these long run on speeches and slight spoiler (her talking about sex seemed like an instructional book bland) the villain was not fleshed out and the miah storyline was less than great. Stay away from breathe. Books of kristen Ashley I've read and loved in the past. Knight, the motorcycle guys, raid and creed. Jagged was probably a 3/5. This felt like a harlequin romance novel. It'll be a while before I can make myself buy another of her novels. Shame.

A beautiful book of love, life, laughters and tears. Loved Chace and Faye! They are now my second best favorite couples of Colorado Mountain series being Max and Nina still riding the number one position. Yay for Kristen Ashley!

I have read all of the Rock Chic books and all of the Dream Man ones..and now this is my 4th Colorado book, and THIS is my favorite! I ADORE Chase! And I really liked that a heroine that is a shy book worm.
The story is well written and had me close to tears several times..especially towards the very end of the book at graduation.
Looking forward to more books in this series!

"The Gamble" had it's flaws, but had a good story going under everything. I decided to read another Kristen Ashley book and "Breathe" was the book I chose. What a disaster of a book! If one would remove the word f**k from the story, this book would be at least a hundred pages shorter. Faye was really weird living in television shows and characters in books. Then there is the description of every little detail that is happening, ordinary nothings that take up space. Somewhere the story line was lost. There was a story, wasn't there? After the vibrator episode on page 132, and the talk Faye had on the telephone with her mother, where it was Battle Star Galactica redo, I stopped reading and gave up. Thankfully I checked this book out of the library and cost me nothing, because that is what it is worth--nothing.

I totally enjoyed the latest offering from Kristen Ashley. While I have been disappointed in some of her latest works, Breathe was a breath of fresh air and very enjoyable. I loved the sci-fi nerd spin Kristen put on her heroine Faye. The book had several laugh out loud moments but also some of the most touching scenes in any romance I have read. The hero was so loveable and was truly a prince come true. The love between Chance and Faye drives the story and never felt rushed. A tale of redemption and light in the dark.
I also loved the cameos from all of the other characters in the mountain series and a few surprises from the rock chick series too:-)

I loved this book. It had it all- a hot cop, geeky librarian, sweet and hot moments. Chace never thought he'd have a chance to romance Faye after he married Misty. Then Misty is killed and Chace is caught up in cleaning up the mess left by corrupt police officers and his dad. Faye has been in love with Chace for thirteen years, she never thought she'd have a shot at him because he was a hot cop. Chace is looking for a chance to redeem himself and Faye is looking for a hero. LOVED it! Plus it was funny as all heck.

KA writes a mean novel, with real characters, that come alive. I love when her stories hurt, it makes the journey to sweet all the better. Excellent novel, love the references to sci-fi - nice to know that geeks are taking over the world! If u don't like sci-fi you'll not be perturbed by the references when you read. Its not exclusive.

The Colorado Mountain Series is my ULTIMATE FAVORITE of Kristen Ashley's. Out of the whole series I thought this was the least of my favorites of my favorites. (Which still means it was DANG good!) I really do love how Kristen Ashley touches base with the past series characters and you can follow their journeys a little more.
