Great book, fast read and interesting twist and turn about family and love. Explores mother - daughter relationship in thought provoking ways. Characters open their eyes on how they accept their family members as they are and really see them as individuals with surprising past.

Started slow, but developed into a wonderful reuniting of the stories of 3 women, of 3 generations, whose talent is to write -- in one form or another -- through wars, displacements, immigration, and their own complex relationships. A great read.

Having read reviews that this book was was filled with characters lacking hope, I almost didn't read past part one. I'm so glad I didn't give up. For me, the context I learned in Part Two made the resolution in Part Three much sweeter. Tan has created a mother/daughter story that transcends cultures.

Truly an absorbing book...I could hardly wait for the ending...but somehow wished it would never end. Ms Tan's characterizations, as always, come alive, and I found myself seeing through their eyes. Just a wonderful read.

The Bonesetter's daughter is a lovely novel that strikes a chord within me because of my own somewhat tumultuous mother-daughter relationship. I couldn't wait to finish the novel and at the same time didn't want it to end. The stories of "old" China are endlessly fascinating. Its definitly a read not to be missed.

a great book written by a prolific author widely known for her short stories that incorporate aspects of her culture and upbringing. this is a well written book that keeps you turning pages but could get monotonous at times, such as flashbacks that seem to drag on for longer than needed to get the point across. yet the same flashbacks are necessary as an integral part of the story. would recommend to a friend

I bought this book because I have enjoyed Amy Tan's work and thought this would be another great book. This book was a disappointment and I have only one descriptive word -for this book - tedious.
When I don't look forward to picking up a book to read and feel like it's a chore it's time to stop reading that book. I got through 1/3 of the book and realized that it had become a chore and I was reading it just because I had paid for it.

This book is quite well written and worth reading but not quite good enough to get a 5 star rating from me. I did however give it 4 stars. It was an interesting story line but sometimes strayed from the storyline. All in all however worth buying.
