Family Relationships
Review:being a grandmother myself, I found this book right on point and wish I had written it. It is warm and loving and so true for most grandparents although not all as Lesley Stahl pointed out. For those who have not experienced the things we have, they are at a mightly deep loss as there is NOTHING like the love of a grandchild and a grandparent----NOTHING. Read more
Review:This is the BEST book out there on parenting siblings! As an only child, I wanted to prepare for and parent as well as possible - both of my boys. This book was so well written and engaging - great comics help make the points! It's helped me avoid so many things I could have inadvertently been doing to create rivalry between my boys. It's been absolutely beautiful to watch the relationship develop between my boys - sibling relationships are SO complex - and the kids learn so much about other... Read more

Review:I very seldom write reviews for the Kindle books I read. However, I had to make an exception for "Sleepers"! This was absolutely the best book I have read in a long time. Although this true story was shocking and touching, the author also made me laugh as he recounted his experiences in his Catholic school and the interaction with his friends. My heart goes out to all who had to endure such atrocities while incarcerated. I wish this would be made in to a movie. Read more
Review:I have lived my parenting life suffused with guilt over the times I have hurt my daughter's feelings with yelling, demands and recriminations over her behavior. Reading this book was a life changing experience for both me and my husband. In the few weeks since I have read this book, life in my home has changed dramatically. I now have the tools to relate effectively to my daughter. I understand WHY she reacts to situations as she does and can handle redirect her anger, fear or sadness simply by ... Read more
Review:very cute reminder to take in every moment. life (and our kids childhoods) are so short and fleeting that getting in the habit of writing advice, loving messages and support for future teams is tough to do. These cute letters can turn into loving and lovely keepsakes and treasured memories! Read more
Review:Good storyline i like how it was reflective of times and situations in past and present. It is also very true that we do not require expensive gifts to show our love for our children. I found the constant reminder that being out doors is a very positive learning curve for our children's futures. Read more
Review:It had potential, but the latter portion of the book read like a book report on psychosis. I'm honestly surprised this was published. She cheated on her boyfriend with some random bartender, then he cheated on her. The book was a quick, easy read... very simple. That's the best word. Simple. So she was cheated on, at least she could disappear and be completely taken care of by her parents and hide away. She seemed very spoiled rotten and not strong at all. I didn't see nor feel any sympathy for... Read more
Review:Wow, this gal can write! Some paragraphs are so exquisite I had to read them again and again. The only tiny rub for me was there is a bouncing back and forth in time that was a little jarring, like I had to re-grab the narrative thread at times, but boy, there is nothing like the voice of a writer with nothing to lose; they give you everything they have, and Nikki Ruta has a lot. For me, this book makes it difficult not to deeply love the essence of us all; imperfect, damaged and exquisitely ... Read more
Review:Over the last year I have been watching the critical acclaim for this debut stack up, and with good reason. Marzano masterfully weaves together personal history and the history of a child's tragic murder into a suspenseful and moving true crime drama. She structures the book with extraordinary skill, haunting prose and the precision of an expert lawyer. I ached for the people in this book, for the sometimes awful complexities of life and the terrible things we humans do to each other. Read more
