The Chaos of Longing
The Chaos of Longing

Review:I always say, poetry is extremely subjective and hard to review, as it will touch each and every reader in a completely unique way. Not every collection or poet will strike the right note with every reader, and this ended up being the case for me with these poems. This was one of those situations where I could appreciate the talent of the author, but the topics and their presentation were just not for me. However, despite my personal experience with these poems, I can easily see how they could d... Read more

Metamorphoses (Oxford World's Classics)
Metamorphoses (Oxford World's Classics)

Review:This translation is ok, but, as I wrote, I have seen better. Keep in mind, this is my opinion. If you like the style I am about to describe, then by all means get this book.
It is in a more poetic verse, and the author takes some liberties with the translation. He also uses some arcane terms, which, when it was translated, were fine but it gives it this very out-dated feel to it. For example, the use of the word "Gore" as part of a description of the abode of Envy. If you look at the direct L... Read more

The Summer of Black Widows
The Summer of Black Widows

Review:Reservation Blues is neither fun nor happy; the book lives up to its title. The author shows the reader the lives of young Spokanes trying to find purpose and direction in their lives through music. The main characters are plagued by misfortune and malaise. They fail to find success. The author bravely declines to follow the standard pattern by offering the reader hope that the main characters' lives will turn out okay despite their crushing circumstances. Instead, the reader is shown the e... Read more

Review:My first graders loved the rhyme and chime effect of this read aloud. It is part of my collection for the first week back in school. I also have several others in this series which makes it fun for the students to connect with several texts by same author. Read more

Pillow Thoughts
Pillow Thoughts

Review:I got an ARC in return for an honest review on NetGalley.

I am going to admit something that should make me ashamed: I picked this book solely off the cover. I do it so often that my friends are just used to me picking up books as we walk by displays in the library and leaving before we even make it back to the stacks. How could I pass up on this cover? I love it and it looks exactly like something that would drag me in. Why would a jellyfish have pillow thoughts? I was immediately drawn ... Read more

Whiskey Words & a Shovel II
Whiskey Words & a Shovel II

Review:I love this book . Its shares true feelings that we go through from a day to day basis and it's fun to read because it's all quotes. I'm personally not a fan of reading books but this is perfect for me because I can relate to the quotes in the book and there is no long chapters which is a plus for me. I recommend this to someone who has been through ups and downs with relationships so I prove this book Read more

Black Book of Poems
Black Book of Poems

Review:Not only are these poems sweet and to the point but they've all got a deep Grimm undertone. The kind of undertone that makes you realize things about your own self. I felt a little more in touch with who I am after finishing this read and I also passed it on to others so that I could discuss it with others. I NEEDED to talk about this book. Just like you NEED to buy it. Read more
