The Lost Choice : A Legend of Personal Discovery
The Lost Choice : A Legend of Personal Discovery

Review:If you can imagine, the time is 3:30 AM, like in the morning, and I am reading The Lost Choice. I found the book compelling and I was unable to put it down. I particularly like not only what Andy Andrews had to write about, I liked the way he wrote it. It was extremely interesting, held my attention and conveyed a most worthwhile message. If you read his first book, The Traveler's Gift, you can understand that something you do can ultimately change the world. The Lost Choice takes it a step... Read more

The Cosmic Battle of the Ages (Left Behind)
The Cosmic Battle of the Ages (Left Behind)

Review:While I know these are works of fiction, it gives a good look into what the coming our our Savior could be like. No one on earth knows the day or the hour, not even Christ when He will be told to have the horn sounded for His return to Rapture His 'bride' the church, the believers. Not all church goers are true believers, they just go through the motions. Good works alone will not get you into heaven. I am looking forward to adding and reading this issue and the next that will complete my set. Read more

Fifteen Minutes: A Novel
Fifteen Minutes: A Novel

Review:I really liked this book. I love the singing contest shows, and I always wondered about the "behind the scenes" details. I thought it was relevant and very readable. Great characters and story line! Read more

The Plot Against America
The Plot Against America

Review:Roth plays with post modern concepts in such novels as Operation Shylock, blurring the line between fiction and reality, between character and identity, and in The Plot Against America, he takes yet another post modern bugaboo, and runs with it. This time it is the alternate history, where he re-imagines a facist American in the late 30's and early 40's. Roth seems intent on recapitulating much of 20th century literature. His Zukerman novel's are Marlowesque frame tales, very in keeping with H... Read more

Indignation (Vintage International)
Indignation (Vintage International)

Review:I couldn't put this book down... the subject matter was thoroughly explored and the characters were well developed and credible.
At one point I was taken aback by the self indulgence and feared the story was going to get raunchy.
I am so glad I kept going and look forward to the movie. Read more

Portnoy's Complaint (Vintage Blue)
Portnoy's Complaint (Vintage Blue)

Review:I resisted reading this piece of trash when it was first released in a blaze of controversy some 50 years ago but in a moment of weakness, out of sheer curiosity, I recently purchased it for my Kindle because it was dirt cheap.

Now, half a century later, 'Dirt' and 'cheap' are still two very appropriate words to apply to this book. If you like reading about a guy whose sexual deviations know no bounds then this is the book for you. It has nothing else going for it. Read more

Abide with Me: A Novel
Abide with Me: A Novel

Review:Elizabeth Strout has created a very believable, very human cast of characters, all of whom struggle with "issues"--some important, some mundane. Lots of big themes: courage, grace, humility, love, death, but mostly how to be the best possible human being in a world that doesn't offer quick, easy answers. The references to Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the repeated mentions of the hymn "Abide With Me," added to my enjoyment of the novel. Set during the Cold War, it brought back many memories of my own ... The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ
The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ

Review:What an amazing book. My first by Philip Pullman. As an adult Christian, I've been more moved by Jesus the man then Jesus the Christ. It was his humanity that inspired me to be a better person - to strive to bring God's kingdom to our lives on earth and not some far away heaven. The scene of Jesus in the Garden - his doubts, his fears, God's silence brought tears to my eyes. Thanks Mr. Pullman for making me continue to question my faith as I journey through life. Read more
