Review:This is a great true story that is well written. It's a fast read because it's hard to put down. It's short, but didn't leave me wanting more. The Coasties I know say the book is right on mark and Bernie Webber is portrayed as he was. Read more
Review:Disguised as a union soldier, Emma would risk her life for her country. Emma Edmonds was born in Saint John, Canada in 1840. When she was sixteen years old she ran away to the United States. When she was twenty one, President Lincoln made a request for seventy five thousand men to volunteer for the Army. She decided that she wanted to be a field nurse for the Union Army but those jobs were so dangerous that they were only given to men. So she cut her hair short, dressed up like a man, and e... Review:When Germany invaded Denmark in WWII, Denmark didn't resist. Their government thought to protect their people by allowing Germany to take over. It did prevent loss of life, and the Danish people were able to live their lives more-or-less normally. In neighboring Norway, it was a different story. The Norwegians resisted, tooth and nail.
Not every Dane was happy with their government's decision, and that's where this relatively unknown story comes in. Knud and Jens Pedersen, mere schoolboys... Read more
Review:I read the adult version of this story when it was published and found the story so inspiring, that I kept talking to my children about it as I read. They were intrigued and wanted to read the story for themselves, but it was a bit daunting for children so young. What a treat to now have a children's book to share with them! They are very familiar with William, as we have followed his story through the Moving Windmills project, and were incredibly excited to finally read his story on their own... Read more
Review:It was a very touching book it made me realize how lucky I am. I kept on thinking to myself why couldn't they have left her alone she wasn't responsible for her background. I feel so sorry that she didn't get to grow up like a normal child. I wish her childhood hadn't been ruined by Chairman Mae. I really enjoyed the book because it let you know what happened while your parents were younger and how children got brutilized when they hadn't done anything wrong. I really feel sorry for Jiang... Review:Not sure why such a small and straight forward book needs a summary. This is about 15 pages long and only a few dollars less than the actual book. Hence my error in ordering 3 of these for my book club not realizing they were the summary and not the actual book. Fine, my mistake. I returned it but was only given half my money back. I realize it was my error but they took $10 out for shipping. I could have shipped it back at my own cost for about 2.00 since they are tiny and weigh nothing. So it ... Read more
Review:A great book and very well written.
Haney took alot of heat for doing so but that's to be expected.
My only confusion came about when Haney described hunting down and killing a former U.S. Special Forces sergeant named Baez in Honduras.
Baez was actually captured alive during the battle of Yolo Valley and taken to a small Honduran airstrip where his capture was reported. Nicaraguan by birth Baez returned to Nicaragua after serving in the U.S. Army. He joined the Sandinista... Read more
Review:Every home schooler or public school should have this resource. Great for teaching and reviewing the core ideas. Whether you use it a curriculum or extra help, these books are great for middle-schoolers and their parents who have probably forgotten a lot since they graduated.
The layout is both fun and engaging as well as draws your eyes to prime ideas and concepts. Read more
Review:Get this book. It's great. I wish I had known about it sooner.
Here's good science information for kids and adults too. At 70 I'm enjoying this clearly presented quality content. See page 287 for Greenhouse Gas explanations and learn more about human caused global warming. See Gregor Memdel's work on pee pods and genetics explained as well as species diversity. Talk about values, the values herein reflect what we learn from science about nature's inherent value to humanity and to itself. Yep,... Read more
