The Story of Dr. Temple Grandin (Amazing Scientists)
The Story of Dr. Temple Grandin (Amazing Scientists)

Review:As the mother of a daughter on the spectrum, this book was immensely helpful. My daughter immediately identified with Temple, and I love the way her autism is presented not as a deficit but as a difference: a difference that changed the world. It's an excellent tool for teaching children about autism, both those who are neurodivergent and neurotypical. Read more

Spectrum Math Workbook, Grade 7
Spectrum Math Workbook, Grade 7

Review:This is challenging in that there are problems/subjects that due to the Common Core & critical thinking developmental program, are I feel way too advance at these early grades. I couldn't do some of these problems that quickly & not able to teach my kids the concepts so readily (need a real teacher & homework & repetitive learning/practice which had gone by the way side today).

Don't expect my kids to get every answer right - but it is there to be used to be challenged.Read more

Barron's AP World History, 7th Edition
Barron's AP World History, 7th Edition

Review:This book contains so much information, ensuring that it will cover everything but also hindering its ability to serve merely as a review book. It has so much information that, to some extent, it might as well be a world history textbook. Based on the detailed curriculum that the College Board has on its webpage for AP World History (http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/courses/teachers_corner/4484.html?excmpid=MTG243-PR-16-cd), this book may contain too much information. Even if you are... Read more

Roadwork (Construction Crew)
Roadwork (Construction Crew)

Review:This is a delightful book filled with lots of "action" words (bam, whop, dig, smush, etc) and a jaunty narrative. I love that it takes the reader from the very first stage of building a road (marking the road on a map) to the very last (opening day) and the author even thought to add planting around the highway before it opens. The illustrations are vibrant and cute. Both my 2 (boy) and 5 (girl) year olds love this story and it's one I don't mind reading over and over again! Read more

Who Was Anne Frank?
Who Was Anne Frank?

Review:This was a great book and a great introduction to the history of WWII.
My 7 and 4 year old enjoyed it. We read this in perpetration to visit Ann Frank's house in Amsterdam.
But now my kids are asking for more.... So obviously it's been great...
I only gave it 4 star because it will probably be too simple after 3 rd grade. Read more

I Took the Moon for a Walk
I Took the Moon for a Walk

Review:This book is essential for everyone with children. I've been reading this to my son since he was about six months old. He's now 18 months old and brings this book to me each night to read and loves to point out the moon on each page. There are endless books out there about colors and the alphabet and such and this book is completely unique and whimsical with its content--you won't find another like it. Another thing I love about this book is its excellent use of poetic devices; each page contai... Read more

Review:This book is going to be awesome for my Kindergartner. She loves books and I think this one will be a hit under the Christmas tree this year. I ran across this book while I was searching for something else, and I noticed all the great reviews. I couldn't wait to get it in, because this book is even neat for me. I love the size of the book and all the interesting facts included. This book will be a very useful and educational tool. Read more

Gold Star Edition (Home Workbooks) - Phonics for First Grade

Review:This book is perfect for my kindergartner. I mostly want him to practice writing and using a pencil as that is what he struggles the most with and the varied activities in this book are great for that. The book itself it small, but it has a good number of different activities. Read more

The Sandman, Vol. 4: Season of Mists
The Sandman, Vol. 4: Season of Mists

Review:As with its predecessors, Season of Mists is intellectual, tinged with wry humor, old myths long forgotten, and even philosophy (though expertly hidden).
It opens with Destiny and a beautiful description of his realm. He soon after calls a 'family meeting', the first one they'd had in quite some time. This triggers a chain of events (one event in particular) that, more or less, make up the whole novel.
This novel challenges common belief about heaven, hell, death, souls and everything in b... Read more
