Review:This book brings a topic that most would rather not talk about into the light. Throughout reading this I found myself wanting to talk more about addiction and depression and help spread the conversation throughout my community. It really impacted me and in a way made me had to do some reflecting of my own that lead to me realizing that depression, addiction, and everything that comes with it is not something that is taken as seriously as it should be and that people are afraid of admitting that ... Review:This book was so well written and impossible to put down. It never felt like the authors were embellishing or filling in the blanks like some true crime books do. It gave deep insight into Josh and Susan's relationship and helped explain the seemingly unexplainable. Read more
Review:As true Ann Rule fans know, Rules books are always great. If you like true crime books this one will not disappoint. The only disappointment is the fact that sometimes the victims in the books have to go through so much misery until justice is served. Read more
Review:Why is this book important when there are so many excellent resources - including Sher's other books? Because if you happen to be a Scanner, and if you always felt vaguely - or NOT so vaguely - uncomfortable about not settling into one interest or one perfect career, then this is the validation you've been looking for. Review:I just finished this book and it is wonderfully compelling. It is classic Miller. The author wanders all over the place spinning humor and digressions into a coherent story of how he got to a place where life is fulfilling. This is a road map to life that is not liquored up with distractions, amusements, and wishful thinking. Miller explains how post-post modern people can find meaning without sentimentality, and how the difficulty of the journey makes the results sweeter. Read more
Review:This book provides a well-organized look at the way in which our "attachment hunger", as Halpern names it, motivates us to stay in intimate relationships which may or may not be healthy for us. As a Ph.D. student in Clinical Psychology, I found this book to be a welcome bridge between the traditional theories of attachment and my actual life experiences. It was also a wonderful aid in my personal quest to form an identity based not on a "significant-other", but upon myself and my comfort with b... Read more
Review:I love this book. I frequently "gift" it to people whom I adore...in all ways....
Original? Perhaps. What made a difference in my life was the focus on not letting our pain and defenses of the past cloud our present reality and future life. Staying open is very hard! I'm struggling with it yet again today and why I am again thinking of this book. Our past will shape our future if we can't relearn to live openly.
Oh how great this book is. I need to re-read it periodically to ... Read more
