Diseases & Physical Ailments
Review:Lot of really good, clear information on how to improve one's health by using a plant based eating program combined with cutting out salt, sugar, oil, dairy products, and all or almost all meat. This plan works absolute wonders in an amazingly short period of time and brings a feeling of well-being that is worth everything. This is one of many books written by Dr. Joel Fuhrman and heals a world of chronic diseases when with adherence and commitment. Sometimes not as well organized as I might lik... Read more
Review:Most women spend their lives being told how NOT to get pregnant, so when the time comes to achieve the opposite, many of us don't even know where to start! It turned out to be a lot more complicated and harder than I imagined it might be. This book was a great resource for an older mom TTC. It dispelled a lot of myths about age and pregnancy in your 30s and 40s. Well written, and backed up by scientific facts, making it an enjoyable as well as informative read. Read more
Review:The recipies all have a very long ingrediant list and can be pretty complicated. I work alot and was hopping for somthing to just tell me what to eat while pregnet and a halfway simple way to do it. I only made the muffin recipies, they were good and was happy with how healthy they were but took alot of time and don't keep very well. Read more
Review:Have read Abraham Verghese's novel Cutting for Stone and so enjoyed the read. Amazon suggested My Own Country by the same author. What was interesting was that Dr. Verghese moved to the smoky mountains of Tennessewe in the 80's to work at a local hospital. His specialty is infectious disease. The doctor loves the area and its people, feeling that it is a good place to raise a family. Also one of the first Aids case appears. Wonderful follow up to his first book. Read more
Review:Book that lets you walk with a woman facing cancer. Kate Bowler lets you inside her thoughts as she courageously faces the worst with grace. The book would be particularly meaningful for anyone facing the same diagnosis. Read more
Review:Lucy Grealy’s book Autobiography of a Face tells the tale of an average little girl going through the trauma of a discovered cancerous tumor and all her subsequent surgeries. As readers, we are placed directly in the middle of the storm as Lucy, a girl living in New York with her dysfunctional family. From her view we see how her father and mother interact in a unique way that shapes Lucy just as much as the distress that treatment causes. Reading this book was especially interesting because Luc... Read more
Review:As was her intent, Ms. Pausch’s info about the lack of information that caregivers are given - the lack of support - is scary especially when you’re dealing with a life-threatening illness like she was dealing with. I am a caregiver to a spouse with Parkinson’s and dementia; our doctors have given me almost no information about dementia, to my detriment . But Ms. Pausch’s situation was much more dire than mine; she was dealing with three children under the age of six, and a life and death sit... Read more

Review:This book is just chocked full of good, useful information. It is the answer book for anyone with hypothyroidism. Almost at the same time I learned about the hypothyroidism, I found out I have lupus also. This book has been a very useful informational guide to see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. A lot of the symptoms overlap, so it is hard to know which is which sometimes. Read more
Review:This book explains the complications around hypothyroidism more clearly than I've ever heard. While I can't afford to have all the tests it suggests, I have been able to make some lifestyle changes that seem to be helping. It feels like Dr. Kharrazian is truly a pioneer in this field and i look forward to other studies that will confirm some of his more subtle discernments and their interventions. Read more
