Review:I LOVED this book. It was a beautiful (and terrifying at the same time) story. Allison Pataki is an excellent writer and easy to read. I find her descriptions put me right in her place and I can feel her feelings. I have read one of her historical fiction books and plan to read more - even though that is not my favorite genre. I would be very interested in reading a sequel to this book. I want to know more as things continue to unfold for her family in the future. Read more

Review:A well written book with facts and opinions explained in context of situation. This book made me re-think of a lot of ideas I earlier has about Gandhi. Though, I do not agree with many of his experiments, he does make one believe that his motive after every one of them was finding the truth of things. The universality of compassion towards all beings is infectious. Read more

Review:_The Cuckoo's Egg_ has everything most fictional detective novels wish that they had: a personable detective who does not mean to get involved as deeply as he does, federal agencies who cannot seem to take action, and a criminal mastermind who has everybody stumped until he encounters our detective. The best part of this whole book is that it really happened-- a feat that fictional mysteries can never match.

Review:Excellent book. Had to put it aside a couple times reading it, the injustice made me so mad. This book is a good antidote to this who think blacks had it good in the old South. Jim Crow was tyranny pure and simple and this book depicts it well. Marshall and the NAACP lawyers really were heroes but they weren't miracle workers and the good guys mostly lost as we see in the book. Read more
