Review:What should have been a thrilling insight into the life of a 3rd world country and a fresh faced Peace Corp volunteer fell flat. The first chapter that described the 1st birth witnessed by Kris at the hands of the midwife Monique held so much promise. The rest of the narrative was with out emotion. The descriptions of the situations just read as if the author was writing a school paper and holding back. It did not make Monique a stronger character to sacrifice the story of Kris and John. I had a... Read more
Review:This is a comprehensive resource for those niggling questions that come up in daily life with a baby--"Is this rash something to be concerned about? How can I tell if he's eating enough? What milestones should she be meeting?"--especially when Dr. Internet gives you confusing info. It's easy to navigate with the table of contents and index and tells you when something can be treated at home (e.g. standard diaper rash) vs something that warrants an office visit (e.g. persistent diaper rash). I ke... Read more

Review:This book is a quick read. I imagine somewhat like a first year of nursing would go. As a new nurse myself (that doesn't have a job yet), it was interesting to see how Teresa managed her first year as a nurse. I thought she captured the difficulties and the learning curve, pretty well.
My irritation at the book was minimal. I felt kind of "dirty," in reading it, like she was capitalizing on other people's traumas and deaths for her material, soley for my reading enjoyment. I also thou... Read more

Review:This book explains the complications around hypothyroidism more clearly than I've ever heard. While I can't afford to have all the tests it suggests, I have been able to make some lifestyle changes that seem to be helping. It feels like Dr. Kharrazian is truly a pioneer in this field and i look forward to other studies that will confirm some of his more subtle discernments and their interventions. Read more

Review:I bought this book for my sister who is preparing for surgery because I thought it would be an excellent book to help her prepare. I decided to check it out myself after receiving it. My biggest issue, which for some may not be an issue at all, is that the book is super slim. It's tiny! Both my sister and I are big into highlighting, underlining, and making notes. The size of this book it would be impossible to make notes and if you started highlighting and underlining it would soon look like a ... Read more
