Review:I gave it three stars because it was good. I liked the storyline. I likened that there were a few surprises and twist. There should have been more. After all the characters were introduced I thought the story could have had more action Read more
Review:This is a book about abortion. Narration is by The Mothers from a church in Oceanside, California. It tells about two young women, Nadia Turner, and Aubrey, and a young man named Luke who is the son of the pastor. Both Nadia and Aubrey are motherless, both are affected by the abortion that happens when they are teens. An interesting concept for a novel set in the African American community of Oceanside. Well-written, fast-paced, and not overly long at 275 pp, for me it was a thought-provoking re... Read more
Review:As usual, Beatriz Williams doesn't disappoint. What's not to love about a story set in NYC in a gin joint during the Roaring 20s? The main character, Geneva "Gin" Kelly is strong, brave, and independent. You can't help but be drawn in by her story, her past, and the potential embodied by her future. She's darker than many of the leads in Williams other novels, and her story is dark as well. She comes from Maryland and leaves for NYC to distance herself from her step-father and the threat he po... Read more
Review:After reading The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and seeing the amazing musical Wicked, I felt compelled to read Son of a Witch. I was not dissappointed!! I fall into the category of readers who loved it.Yes, it created new questions but it answered so many other questions for me.I enjoyed the journey back to the Emerald City with Dorothy and Company.I really wanted to know how Glinda had fared and how it all effected the future of OZ. Reconnecting with Nanny, Chistery, the Maunt... Read more
Review:I picked up my daughter's copy of "Wicked" a couple of months ago and was enthralled. Read it twice to catch some of the details I missed in my first reading (I'm going to have to replace her copy because I've paged through it so much!). Maguire's portrayal of Elphaba's death is quite simply a masterpiece.
I immediately bought "Son of a Witch," which I found less satisfying but still an important part of the story. Naturally I bought "A Lion Among Men" in hopes that we would get glimpses... Read more
Review:Great fun. The suspense mounts from page one on, and along the way, something even more remarkable happens: the remarkably true-to-life character of Lila Mae is fleshed out in a series of sharp, moving flashbacks, incidents even she has forgotten, and still these little peepholes into her mind don't let the reader guess what motivates her. She is fascinating. The circumstances that throw her off of her chosen path--the unlikely crash of an elevator she has just inspected, and the evil corpo... Read more
Review:Super quick read for me. I knocked it over in 10 minutes so I'm glad it was a freebie. Usual Tijan style. Well formatted and editing was reasonably tight.
I've got to be honest, I'm not a fan of Sam. I totally don't get the whole 'Poor Sam. She's so hard done by the world.' It's a little tired for me. She has the love and devotion of a strong circle of peeps. I figure she just needs to build a bridge and get over it.
This snippet felt like a lead in to Logan's story and I got a he'... Read more
Review:Harry Potter fans if back stories are your thing; then this is the book for you. Brief histories and unknown personal backgrounds help illuminate the mystery behind some of these already interesting characters. Read more
Review:Mr Smith has done it again!
Trackers 2 is a marvellous read! It picks up right where we left off and dives straight into action. This novel was gripping, action packed and full of imaginative ideas. It is certainly clear that the concepts in this novel where thoroughly researched which makes it easy to get sucked in and feel a part of the world.
I absolutely love all of Nicholas Sainsbury Smiths work but I can confidently tell you that Trackers 2 would make a fantastic addition to ... Read more
Review:What a great book!! I caught the excerpt from the last Extinction Cycle book and pre ordered this one back in April. I've been looking forward to this novel ever since. It was release to me yesterday and I've read it non-stop till I finished it....and boy o boy it is good! Action packed and full of twists and turns. I look forward to the next in the series. Albeit I have to wait a whole year now. Thank you Mr. Sansbury Smith for another wonderful series to look forward to and getting lost in ima... Read more
