Review:Growing up in west Texas and playing football and always hearing about Permian becomes a way of life. It' like teams sit around on Friday afternoons and think about they will be immortalized if they could win. This book opens doors to dreams that everybody has and few achieve, winning championships. This book tells of a team that can not stand to lose, and that will do whatever it takes to with hold the dynasty of Permian football. Bissinger tells of how some of the players don't have anythi... Review:After reading Gary Paulsen's Winterdance, I had to try this one. I teach 5th grade, so I thought Woodsong might be more geared toward them. I'm still reluctant to use this except in small groups...the depiction of nature's brutality with all the graphic detail, will be a little too intense for some of my students...only balanced by an adult's perspective (putting it into context).
Setting aside that one word of caution, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Like one of his dogs, once I was har... Read more
Review:So you all might remember Cannon from past Lori Foster’s books, well now he is back with his own story! And boy what a story it is.
So Cannon has just arrived back in town after a very tough MMA match, only to find himself summoned to the attorney for Tipton Sweeny. There he finds out not only that Tipton has passed, but he has been left a legacy along with Tipton's granddaughter Yvette.
Yvette left Warfield years ago, after a horrible incident, but now she is back to sort out her grandfat... Read more
Review:Hands down one of the best Lori Foster books I've read. Confession time: Lori Foster was one of my very first romance authors that I read. she lured me into an amazing world and I had soon read most, if not all, of her books. And I'll be honest I've been a little lacking in reading her books lately, but this book caught my attention. I was hearing such amazing things and I said to myself: It's time to go back to what made you love romance books in the first place. And what a return to Ms. Foster... Read more
Review:After No Limits, I was really looking forward to the next installment. However, I was kind of disappointed in Holding Strong. While I enjoyed once again meeting all of the characters that I grew to love in the first book, the story itself I found to be quite dull. The characters seemed to have the same discussions over and over again that at times it felt a little tedious. The suspense of the novel felt more like a mere annoyance that was given little page time. And, towards the end of the ... Read more
Review:I thoroughly enjoyed Tough Love. I've been really looking forward to the story of Vanity and Stack after the previous book, and this one did not disappoint. They are both great characters, and I loved how Vanity was so sure of her feelings for Stack and acted on them. Stack was commitment shy, but was wonderfully protective of Vanity. The two had great chemistry together, and I loved reading their story.
Vanity made a deal with Stack to spend a night with him in return for accompanying he... Read more
Review:Lori Foster sure knows how to hook you in right from the beginning and not let go until the very end. What a great suspenseful romance. Not too scary suspenseful but still got a good mystery going on to see who the villain was. I had a hunch but I was kept being thrown off. So many possible suspects and it was great trying to guess "who dunnit." Now on to the romance part. *Great big sigh* Miles and Maxi were HOT! Their chemistry was off the charts and I really loved how their relationship devel... Read more
Review:This newly announced winner of the 2015 Newbery award took my breath away. Written in a variety of poetic styles, the story flows seamlessly from an introduction of the characters to it's all too quick ending. Written in a style sure to appeal to middle grade readers, it fills a much-needed hole in the choices of quality sports fiction for young people. Well done! Read more
Review:Disappointed. Just another story of a jock drinking, partying and cheating. Some interesting locker room tidbits and a lot about the football culture, but in the end I just felt sorry for the guy. Was that the intent? Read more
