The Kiss Quotient
The Kiss Quotient

Review:I struggle to find #ownvoices autistic main characters in contemporary realistic books for adults, so when I heard about this book, I bought it immediately.

Stella was fully developed and very relatable for me. Her relationship with Michael had a wonderful balance of circumstance-based tension and cuteness. Read more

Literary Touchstone Classics Edition - A Doll's House

Review:Delightful reading - now I am anxious to read the play by Lucas Hnath which is a sequel titled A Doll's House, Part 2 and is being performed in NYC at the present time. The sequel is said to be consistently funny. Read more

The Unbearable Lightness of Scones (44 Scotland Street Series)
The Unbearable Lightness of Scones (44 Scotland Street Series)

Review:You have to be a reader who delights in characterization over plot and in that wonderful UK sense of humor to be a fan of this series. Well, count me in! However, American readers are known to prefer plot driven fiction so if you are instead looking for a rip roaring, can't stop turning the pages novel, this isn't it. It has more in common with Benson's MAPP AND LUCIA than with Larson's MILLENIUM TRILOGY.

We pick up with Matthew's wedding at the start of this novel and his very eventfu... Read more

The Importance of Being Seven (44 Scotland Street Series)
The Importance of Being Seven (44 Scotland Street Series)

Review:Once again I am drawn into the delightful lives of the Pollock family and all the surrounding characters. Bertie is such a wonderful little boy, isn't he? Alexander McCall Smith brings out his delightful personality so well. If Bertie stays 7 for a while, I am OK with that. Read more

Espresso Tales
Espresso Tales

Review:Absolutely love anything written by Alexander McCall Smith. Such wonderfully human characters. Call me crazy, but I do enjoy Bruce - fascinating to get into the head of a narcissistic, materialistic and chauvinistic male! I also love this insider's view of Edinburgh and its people - it's I city that I have fallen in love with! Read more

Love Over Scotland (44 Scotland Street Series)
Love Over Scotland (44 Scotland Street Series)

Review:Everyone with a little power seems to have an exaggerated opinion of himself or herself in Edinburgh. But it must be true elsewhere: Love Over Scotland employs such a kindly look at such pretensions that I was able to see myself quite clearly in some of the satirized characters. It's good for the soul to read this book.

If you haven't read the earlier books in the series (44 Scotland Street and Espresso Tales), I recommend you do so before beginning Love Over Scotland.

The Revolving Door of Life (44 Scotland Street Series)
The Revolving Door of Life (44 Scotland Street Series)

Review:The great description of characters, emotions, places and situations, made me believe I was in Scotland among friends. I could feel the happiness of Bertie, the wisdom of angus, annoyance at the narcissism of that deplorable Bruce! What I could not do was stop reading. Read more

44 Scotland Street (44 Scotland Street Series - Book 1)

Review:I love this series and purchased this for my sister so that we could talk about it. She likes McCall Smith's gentle style as I do and so it was a successful purchase. It arrived in good shape and very quickly. Read more
