Review:I really loved the first half of this book. SPOILER ALERT..............the first half is written from the side of the man and I thought it was interesting. Just as you know what is going to happen they switch and tell the whole thing over from the woman's perspective. I was already invested in the story and knew what had happened so it was like immediately rewatching a movie you just saw. I was a bit bored and my mind wandered as the woman talked about a lot of art stuff and her snooty frien... Read more

My Not So Perfect Life: A Novel
My Not So Perfect Life: A Novel

Review:I have read many Sophie Kinsella books. I have re-read many of them. This will probably not be a re-read, but it was good. The characters were likeable. The plot was decent. It just seemed to be missing that extra oomph to make it a re-read book. Read more

A Doll's House (Dover Thrift Editions)

Review:Delightful reading - now I am anxious to read the play by Lucas Hnath which is a sequel titled A Doll's House, Part 2 and is being performed in NYC at the present time. The sequel is said to be consistently funny. Read more

The Secret History of the Pink Carnation (Pink Carnation series Book 1)
The Secret History of the Pink Carnation (Pink Carnation series Book 1)

Review:"The Scarlet Pimpernel" is my all-time favorite book. I have read it more times than I can count and it never fails to excite, despite the fact that I know exactly what's going to happen. So, when my sister read "The Secret History of the Pink Carnation", she told me I absolutely had to read this book and as soon as it was available in the library, I checked it out.

And loved it. The only way I can describe it is that it's a fun read. Pure entertainment. The hilarious antics of Amy kept m... Read more

Cara's Twelve
Cara's Twelve

Review:I read Cara's Twelve on Kindle Unlimited. Although I am not much of a fantasy reader, I'm glad that I gave Cara's Twelve a chance. The story intrigued me and pulled me right in and held me as a willing hostage through the very end. The storyline and the characters were masterfully developed and clearly written. I felt as if I was in the middle of the story. It has a nice mixture of adventure and romance. It is definitely worth the read. Read more

Drowning Ruth: A Novel (Oprah's Book Club)
Drowning Ruth: A Novel (Oprah's Book Club)

Review:I looked forward to reading this book - the back jacket was enticing, other reviews were good, and I had enjoyed a series of Anita Shreve books and was looking for a 'new' author. It was interesting, held my interest, kept me curious, but started to disappoint about 1/3 of the way through -- some of the character development was weak, and the story line became forced. Not bad, and a good first effort. Don't pass it by if you're looking for an interesting tale from a new author. Skip it if yo... Read more

Native son.
Native son.

Review:The story of Bigger is especially relevant as the nation again discusses issues of race after the trial of George Zimmerman for the death of Trayvon Martin. It is easy to see how racism and marginalization of young Black men leads to powerlessness and rage, and rage leads to actions that exacerbate racist fear, and that fear leads to more racism. Superman: Earth One Vol. 3
Superman: Earth One Vol. 3

Review:Overall good storyline that shows us what Superman's upbringing would be like in a more modern context. It is clear that this is a new Superman, not the same one we are familiar with from decades prior.

Some minor quibbles still arise: the glasses-only disguise for Clark Kent, for example, but they don't diminish the storyline's entertainment value. Read more

Hope & Healing While Caring for Hospice Babies - A True Story about Finding Life
Hope & Healing While Caring for Hospice Babies - A True Story about Finding Life

Review:When Cori Salchert left her job as an in-hospital bereavement specialist due to health problems, she felt unneeded and uncertain of her future. Still relatively young and trained as a neonatal intensive care nurse, Cori was not willing to stop using her gifts for helping at-risk newborns and grieving families. How she got to this point and what she did with her life after her medical retirement are outlined in this deeply moving memoir. The emotional and gripping account will both test and reaff... The Good Luck Charm
The Good Luck Charm

Review:I love sports/hockey romance and I love second chance romance. Helena Hunting did a fantastic job bringing both of these romances into The Good Luck Charm! I loved that this one had the perfect mix of emotion and humor.

Lilah and Ethan dated in high school. They were in love and it was serious. That is, until Ethan left her to focus on his professional hockey career. Lilah has stayed in town and stayed close to Ethan's family. Now, it's 8 years later and he's back. The attraction is still... Read more
