Review:Requires a unique mindset to fully grasp the beauty of this book. This is not a quick read (nor a cheap one at $18 for 156 reduced size pages) for the beach. Keep an open mind to let his propositions sneak past "the critic" of your questioning brain. Not my favorite Lightman, but then it's not every day you learn that everything you thought you understood about the universe is now turned on its head. Read more
Review:It's a love story, and it has everything: bandits, highwaymen, corrupt judges, criminal masterminds, heroes, villains, faithful friends, lovers, betrayals, robbery, murder, mines, runaway carriages, and beer for breakfast. It's written in classic 19th-century prose style, so don't be put off by the slow start. Slog through it, tough it out, fall it love with the great John Ridd and the beautiful robber's child, Lorna Doone. Set in Exmoor, it's based on historical events. The Ridd farmhouse exist... Review:Be careful you don't throw away the cellophane wrapping around the book when you receive it, because apparently there's a valuable code on the label that is the only way you can enable the access to the online content, unless you're interested in paying an additional amount for the right. Content is identical to the hardcover textbook, but don't think about trying to enable access to online web content without that special code! Read more
Review:This is a typical mammoth intro textbook, which means it is far from adequate for intro courses. The authors assume that the student is going to devote eight hours a day to the intro course alone, a rather unrealistic expectation. There are dozens such textbooks, none practical. What the point in a many-page bibliography, which not even one in a thousand is even going to consult? It's about time we came down to earth, and started writing intro textbooks for intro courses. Review:It was okay, but to much nonsense and just filler talk in it. For instance how Anlon liked his friend's hair, etc. Did not stay on topic as much as I would like. I guess you could say it took to much of a round about way to get to the point. Read more
