The Norton Anthology of African American Literature (Third Edition) (Vol. 1)

Review:I bought this book for an Engligh Literature class, it is very bulky, but contains so much there is no other way they could cram so much into anything any smaller! This book remains on my desk, and always will. Read more

The Norton Anthology of American Literature (Ninth Edition) (Vol. Package 1

Review:The selection is great. I love the introductions before each time period- it really helps understand the history and culture of the time. Each author has a bio, which is nice. It's nicely laid out, easy to read, and very compact. Since I love literature, this series is a great value and something I enjoy reading outside of class. Read more

Making a Good Script Great, 3rd Ed.

Review:I found this book extremely helpful with my writing, as well as Linda Seger's other books. Her suggestions and ideas hit home again and again and my writing improved because of it. Since reading Linda Seger's books, I have had several scripts optioned, for both movies and television. Read more

101 Famous Poems
101 Famous Poems

Review:I, like so many other reviewers, grew up with this book. My father and I used to read these timeless poems together, and he knew a lot of them by memory and would recite them with great drama. I have the book that my father gave my mother shortly after they were married in the 40s. I just wish it were in a Kindle edition so that I could download it to my Kindle Fire. What a juxtaposition of eras that would be, eh? Read more

Around the World in Eighty Days (Oxford World's Classics)

Review:A classic from my childhood first experienced through the Disney movie. This was quite a bit different yet all the better for it. I recommend to both the science fiction fan and the lover of history. Written about 1873 it's amazing how much things haven't changed in travel and in people. Read more

Review:I purchased this for an online college class, so the material is great. I wanted an e-version for my laptop and the descriptions made it sound like I could access it electronically by using a code inside the text. Never found the code- wish I had bought it directly from the publishers so I could have accessed the digi version. Read more

The Thinking Person's Guide to Writing in the 21st Century

Review:Love the clarity and freedom from the rigid followership of Strunk & White...even though I still refer to that guide regularly, like millions of others. Appreciate a new guide for the current age! & one that is actually interesting to read! Read more

Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling, The

Review:This is a beautiful book that has captivating illustrations on every page. It's nicely bound with high quality paper.

Mr. Laws is a fantastic communicator, expressing drawing and journaling concepts in a practical and concrete manner. This makes challenges like perspective seem doable. He mentioned having learning challenges as a child, and I think the "hands on" way he had to learn has made him fantastic at simplifying and giving examples.

Of the 100s of drawing books I own, this ... Read more

2015 International Building Code Commentary - Volume 1
2015 International Building Code Commentary - Volume 1

Review:ICC system of organization & cross referencing seems to be set up so that the authors can prove how obtuse they can make something. I have worked with Building Codes for 40-years and they just seem to get more illogical in organization each issue. Going to multiple locations to try to piece together the requirements for an issue often leads to varying interpretations of the intent to no one's benefit. Read more
