Review:More painful to get through than I thought it would be.
There's nothing inherently wrong with this novel. In fact, it's very honest about what it is: a supernatural coming of age about a twelve year old boy trying to save his mother from a mysterious form of cancer. It would've been great if I had been... what? 21 years old? But I'm a whopping 35 and living in 2017, and I'm saddened to tell you: The Talisman didn't age all that well.
It's impossible to read this book earnestly in t... Read more
Review:Hard Magic is Larry Correia's third novel and already he is writing better than authors who have been on the scene for years. Having read both Monster Hunter novels I was well aware of Correia's skill going into Hard Magic but I never expected a masterpiece of this caliber. Reviews have been going around for some time now, Baen published an electronic-Advanced Read Copy a couple months ago and the reviews have been flattering. Some critics had even stated that this is Correia's best book yet. Ha... Read more
Review:This story is awesome! Badass Zombie killers, topless babes, guns, and boats! What more could anyone want! Oh yeah, no P.C. Crap! Ringo scores a big win with this one. Can't wait for the next installment. Read more
Review:Overall good collection of stories and exploits posted on the internet by of the Lawdog, a Sheriff's Deputy in a rural Texas town. Very funny and a good look at all the stuff law enforcement puts up with. My favorites were anything about Big Mama and her family and the Pogonip. Interesting that he says women make excellent peace officers, as long as an officer with draggy knuckles is close by. But what if the draggy knuckles officer needs similar backup? Read more
Review:One of my favorite books, read it for the story and later you ponder some of the ideas presented. I do agree that it could be split into two novels as I have seen in other comments, but for me that just made it a great deal. Read more
Review:Snyder's writing style is fluid and at times almost lyrical--colorful, vivid descriptions abound and I felt as if I could have been right there in Ixia. The story was nothing short of brilliant--one of just a few truly original (at least, to me) books I've read lately. (That list includes The Hunger Games and Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely books.) Poison Study had me hooked from the beginning and I had a hard time putting this one down--let's just say it's a good thing there's not much going on at... Read more
Review:Though Erikson's book is fantastic, this review is 1-star because the kindle edition of this book is scandalously riddled with typos. How any self respecting editor/proofreader could allow a text with so many blatant errors through is beyond me. There are sentences that have no punctuation at all, or that have random periods in between words. Italics are sometimes italicized, and sometimes revert to normal font, leaving the reader wondering if Erikson was trying to highlight a specific word o... Read more
Review:This isn't a review of the book, but of the product itself. I purchased this believing it would be the same cover as pictured, but it was actually a new edition with alternate cover art. It's still a good copy but I bought this solely because I was looking for the version in the picture. I was trying to get a matching set of all 10 books since there isn't a box-set available. I hate mass market paperbacks so I figured I'd go for the regular paperbacks as they all have pictured the covers in the ... Read more
