Review:This is one of those journeys that you should definitely take. You will sympathize with every character that makes an appearance in this novel and enjoy this tale. It is not light reading,
Beware, if you are reading this for a school assignment, the movie is not the same story! Read more
Review:i'm afraid that i was uncomfortable with this book although the story is good and the characters are fun. i had just finished reading another book that focused on another dysfunctional family and i was about done with the South in the 50's . while i think that as a nation we have a long way to go to have any sort of race equality, the language of that time was offensive and i'm please that is not our frame of reference. Also, two drunk fathers who did nothing to raise the morale or fortunes of ... Read more
Review:very disappointing from a novelist i have greatly enjoyed in the past. characters were dull , didn't care about them and the theme had elements of Girl on a Train in some of the characters.
I persevered just to finish it but worst book i have read this year Read more
Review:Gives good insight into WW1 conditions, particularly from a nursing perspective.
Characters grow on the reader, as the story unfolds.
Locations are well described, as the differences are revealed from places of origin of the nurses to the scenes of treatment of the wounded.

Review:Every single one of Carols Zafon's books are over the top. I can never put them down. And he always ties the endings up in a pretty little bow. The characters are very true to life.Excellent, excellent writer. Read more
Review:The story premise sounds promising and delightfully Ken Follett-esque. However, after just 20 pages I am not sure that I will finish this book as the writing is choppy, repetitive and often difficult to follow even seemingly simple plot sequences. Read more
Review:I bought this book with great excitement and greater expectations, having read his two previous and excellent novels and waiting for Zafon's newer materials, I found myself disappointed. Even though this book is very well written it didn't pull me or keep me guessing like the others, the story is somewhat predictable and even boring at times. This book is not hard to put down :( Read more
Review:I recently viewed the Ronald Coleman movie, which didn't do a very good job following the story, but which ignited my desire to reread this wonderful fantasy. It's sort of a 'lost' classic -- forgotten by many readers, but well worth time it takes to fall into this wonderful and dramatic world Hilton imagined. Read more
Review:This book was an absolute surprise..Freebies can be "hit or miss" and more often than not, just a series of misses.
Instead, Alvarez has done a great job of creating a strong heroine with an interesting career. Piper is definitely a well - developed character and we get to see her growth throughout the book.
This is a well - written story with interesting secondary characters. Realistic, dysfunctional families abound. Love New Zealand as a setting and looking forward to reading ... Read more
Review:This is my favorite Paolo Coehlo book. It's about choices, trusting the Divine, and perseverance. I would recommend this for anyone who has had multiple set-backs in life, or is has been waiting a long time for a dream to come true. Read more
