Awaken (The Patronus Series Book 1)
Awaken (The Patronus Series Book 1)

Review:Sarah wrote an excellent new take on the afterlife. It's a direction that I have never seen taken before and it's a lot like I would imagine it to be. The book gives a different look at vampires and werewolves with such an amazing supernatural twist where you seriously are like - OMG, how did she come up with this!!! Such a terrific story being told about a strong young girl that despite the tragic events that have occurred, carries on with a fierce attitude and a will to do her best. The chara... Read more

Review:I actually threw this book and I am greatly sorry for it but this novel got under my skin. So yes, I totally enjoyed this novel and yes, I would highly recommend it, if this is a genre you read. Why? For starters this novel is real, this story is reality as it told the story as if they were your neighbors and this was not the edited version. There was no red bow at the end and there was no happy, sappy feeling in the middle that made me go “ahh!” I was furious and irritated and I wanted to ... Read more

Review:I am a fan of the artist and the webcomic. So when this set of comics came to print, I instantly bought it to read to my daughter. The print version (the book) is very hard to read. Many of the comic panels have been shrunk down considerably and both myself, and my daughter have a very difficult time reading the words. The pictures are also graphically shrunk down and shoved into the pages. Read more

Fledgling (The Dragonrider Chronicles Book 1)

Review:Good read, enjoyed the story. A little predictable but a few nice surprises. I hated the protagonist naming of the Dragon, every time I read it I could not help thinking of "Top Gun" I'll definitely read the next book, look forward to seeing how this story unfolds.

Would have been 3.5 Stars if possible. Read more

Turned at Dark: A Bonus Shadow Falls Short Story
Turned at Dark: A Bonus Shadow Falls Short Story

Review:This is a very short novella about Della Tsang, a main character from Born at Midnight, but takes place before that and shows us how she came to be what she is in Born at Midnight. St. Martin's Griffin gave this away as a free e-book on the same day that Born at Midnight was released.

Turned at Dark was a very quick and interesting read, and I recommend it to anyone who has read and enjoyed Born at Midnight. It gives us more insight into Della as a character, and the reasons why she acted... Read more

A Wind in the Door (A Wrinkle in Time Quintet Book 2)
A Wind in the Door (A Wrinkle in Time Quintet Book 2)

Review:This story connects the outer and inner worlds which we in the West are prone to deny or ignore. It seems a good place to start teaching children that what happens within them physically, emotionally and spiritually has ramifications in the outer world just as what is happening in the outer affects their inner, subconscious lives. The Day the Angels Fell
The Day the Angels Fell

Review:Shawn Smucker is the voice that has been missing in Young Adult fiction! The Day The Angels Fell wades through life, loss, and how we handle the tension of both. I love that these topics are addressed for younger readers because so often grief is an oft-avoided subject, but how will they be prepared for when lose inevitably comes?
Smucker is a skilled writer, building colorful scenes, believable characters, and an all around great narrative. Sam, Abra, and the rest of the cast of characters a... Read more

Review:Mentions masturbation and and uses words that would get kids suspended from school. How is this a young adult book, why does it have a Caldecot award. While this grotesque behavior may be true to life experience for some kids, I don't want to promote it or condone it. I borrowed this book from the library and intend to take it back with some words. I don't ever believe in banning a book, but books marketed to children should not contain words that I am not allowed to include in this review..... Read more

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, Book 1)
The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, Book 1)

Review:This book has all the ingredients of a great read. Well written, great story, terrific characters and unexpected twists and turns. Basically it's about 4 boys from an elite high school studying ley lines (supernatural energy highways) in search of a lost kings burial cite. Along the way they meet a girl from a family of psychics who, while not psychic, is full of energy and helps the boys enhance their search. Lots of twists regarding some of the boys, secrets and revelations. This is not a ... Read more
