Review:I can't imagine anyone actually able to implement this approach in a real life situation. It makes pretty broad-brushed assumptions that any student would regularly be self-motivated to study 12 hours a day. I just don't buy it. My kids LOVE to play video games and would do so 12 hours a day, but I can't picture them at 13 and 16 studying what I consider important for that many hours each day without prompting and accountability.
There are so many other factors that play into learning.... Read more
Review:I was incredibly disappointed in this book. From the time I was a teenager, I have been a John Adams fan. As such, my feelings towards Alexander Hamilton were pretty negative and my feelings towards Thomas Jefferson were somewhat ambivalent. I read Chernow's biography of Hamilton. I felt like he did a good job of addressing Hamilton, "warts and all" and I came away from that book liking Hamilton a lot more, but liking Jefferson a lot less. I was looking for a good book that could do the same thi... Read more
Review:There exists sufficient evidence for me to support Kay Redfield Jamison's hypothesis that bipolar disorder is overrepresented in those with the 'artistic temperment'. Additionally, the link almost surely has a genetic component, with overlapping genes conferring a proclivity to the arts as well as susceptibility to depressive illness. Much of this research is surveyed in the Jamison's scholarly third chapter, which reads like a review on the topic (although now fairly dated, published in 1993)... Read more
Review:Maybe this book is good for people who are actually planning on entering a 12-step program, but as someone who read it just out of general interest, I found it to be incredibly repetitive, and felt the entire book could have been shrunk down to a 25 page booklet, including all the checklists and tables. There was very little actual material in the book, and it seemed every other chapter was a direct repeat of the previous chapter.
It wasn't so bad as to not want to finish it (it took me a... Read more

Review:This is fascinating and explains the many nationalities and their personality traits of my ancestors, relatives, and friends, who are Northerners and Southerners: Some are Yankees (Wisconsin, Minnesota, northeast Iowa), some are Midlands (south central Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana), some are Appalachians (Tennessee), some are Far Westerners (North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming), some are Left Coasters (Oregon, California) and some are Southern (transplants living in Georgia and North Carolina). Review:Unimaginative; poorly written by a hack who calls himself a news journalist. This piece of trash doesn't deserve the light of day. It might be useful as toilet paper in the outhouse of some right wing nut job. Read more

Review:This is an excellent book. Not only are the lessons outlined clearly and supported by solid examples. You learn much about what Lincoln had to deal with in his life and the multitude of challenges he faced once in the office of President of the United States.
The book is a quick read with chunks that can easily be digested. Mr. Phillips provides a nice format for both learning and understanding. This is a must read if you want to learn valuable lessons and tactics for leading or if yo... Read more
Review:Every young puertorican should read this book. Listening to my grandparents from both sides of the family it answered a lot of questions I had as growing young lady. My heart goes to all those people that went through such a difficult time during that era in PuertoRico. Very valuable information and to my surprise my eldest son (who lives in Pittsburg recommended the book. Congratulations to Nelson Dennis for doing such an extraordinary job on writting a Puerto Rican history masterpiece. Excele... Read more
