Review:Fareed Zakaria provides history and the insight needed to understand where we are and how we got here. Without that insight you cannot best understand where we are going. I believe he is spot on. It is time for us, Americans, to realize we are only a part of the whole. We are currently a big part of it but in the end it is the whole that matters. He is correct in that we failed by succeeding. The world learned what we wanted to teach them. We succeeded. Now they are our competition. If ... Read more
Review:Zakaria goes to great lengths to remind us that the words "democracy" and "freedom" are not in the least synonymous. He points to Hong Kong as one example: even before the famed "handover" of the city to Communist China, there was nothing even remotely approaching democracy in the city -yet its capitalistic success and famed tolerance for just about every manner of behavior, fashion, and style points to an extremely free society. On the other side of the coin there are countries like Germany, ... Read more
Review:Thanks, Dr. Paul, for writing this book. It explains most of the important political and economic issues that affect the United States today. Further, the issues are presented in a succinct, interesting fashion. As a retired military officer, I applaud your courage and honesty. You've always been true-blue! Read more
Review:This book contains many speeches presented to the US House of Representatives. The book presents these speeches with contextual notes so that the reader may understand the flow of history and what was taking place in the world when the speech was given. This book provides excellent insight in to Dr. Paul's beliefs regarding the Founding Fathers, foreign affairs, the legal basis for US government action with regards to foreign policy, etc.
There seems to a group of people spamming Dr. Paul... Read more
Review:Do you feel like there is something terribly wrong in this country?
If you want true Liberty, then this is a must read book for you.
Be prepared to have your paradigms challenged about what government should do. You'll no doubt also agree on much government shouldn't do. Plus, Murray Rothbard destroys many myths about the rest that you think government must do.
"For A New Liberty: The Libertarian Manifesto, 2nd Edition" is an uncompromising romp through a world of Pure Liberty. ... Read more
Review:Like a lot of people my age, opposing Apartheid was the moral equivalent of fighting fascism at the time. With divestment campaigns and protest marches on college campuses around the country, we did what we could to bring about the end of that system. After 1994 with victory won, we walked away and turned our focus on other things. One doesn't have to agree with Ms. Mercer's libertarian views to recognize that something went seriously wrong in South Africa when we were no longer paying attent... Read more
Review:Breaking Cover: My Secret Life in the CIA and What It Taught Me about What's Worth Fighting For is a great insight into what life in the CIA looks like. Something we don't get to see very often. Michele is definitely a woman who stands up the impossible.
I loved how Michele gives credit to God for leading her steps. Michele and her husband were able to help Iraqi Christians to get away from Isis. They probably wouldn't have been as successful ifs they didn't have their previous training.<... Read more
Review:The line, "stranger than fiction" applies. Doesn't read like fiction, but it isn't. The trade craft in his books is fascinating to read. I admire him so much that I will read anything he writes. It is so much more interesting to hear it from someone "who has been there--done it". Read more
Review:I love spy novels and espionage books in general. This book was a thorough story about a man's journey from the cold hell of east Germany to the "evil" capitalist society - USA as a kgb spy. In the end freedom, family, and the truth about capitalism prevailed - screw communism! Read more
Review:Having read much about the modern state of, and state of affairs in, Iraq in recent years, the Assasin's Gate sets the bar very high both in terms of scope and detail. Packer paints quite a thorough portrait of many of the actors involved in the lead up to the war and speculates in detail the byzantine reasoning behind their varying motivations. From Atlantic avenue in Brooklyn to Firdous Square in central Baghdad, this writings contained in this book hit close to home for me. Recalling a simila... Read more
