Review:I watched the movie then decided I really need to know more. This story is amazing! It is written in his own words. The fact that this man could write about all the terrible things done to him and not have a bitter attitude about it really speaks about the value of forgiveness. Forgiveness frees us to live and not be ruled by those who have hurt us. Also the journal entries of Wilm Hosenfeld are extremely interesting. Very worthwhile reading! Read more
Review:Nietszche:Beyond Good and Evil, reviewed by [email protected] In the early chapters, Nietzsche in effect wipes the slate clean, showing how previous philosophers and moralities were in their grasp inadequate. There is a "definite fundamental scheme of possible philosophies"(Aphorism 20), as there is of possible moralities(260), and particular philosphers and moralists merely fill in their respective places on these spectrums. Nietzsche offers a comprehensive critique of all such systems. T... Read more
Review:This book is an extensive revision of the author's concise 1982 book on the Spanish Civil War. The earlier version was the best short introduction to this difficult topic, notable for its evenhanded judgements and clear writing. This version is considerably improved and significatly longer. It incorporates important scholarship that has emerged in the last 2 decades, for example, the improved accounting of post-war executions carried out by the Franco regime and much better understanding of S... Review:I have really enjoyed reading this book. You feel trapped in Cabeza de Vaca's adventures right from the first few pages. I keep telling my friends how amazing this story was, and how miraculous it is that he and his companions endured so as to cross the continent from Florida to the Pacific Coast of Mexico, most of the path by foot.
But it is shame that Amazon took so little care in converting this book to the Kindle format. If maps are important in travel books, here are crucial. And yet... Read more
Review:This is a great starting point for reluctant readers and boys who don't know what to choose -- there are more than 30 books in this genre. The stories are set in the real world, but with some mysterious or mythical element to keep the hair up on the back of you neck! The first few pages give you the story line. At the end of each passage, you reach a decision point from which the story unfolds in a direction of your choosing. For example, you can go to the movies with your new friends - jump to ... Review:Really great book. Interesting take on history. Nothing too new or earth shattering but a very conversational take on history. Great supporting stories from Chris Kyle's life that add some color to the book. Love the idea of looking at history from a different angle (great guns rather than great men/women). Read more
Review:Great, quick read - as a follower of Force12, St. Martins, and the SOFREP crew, Irving's book is fun and lives up to his reputation. Don't get this if you're expecting technical / tactical knowledge - while it does encompass some training aspects of the Rangers/SOF, etc., The Reaper is the story of him; how and why Irving became what he is/was. Review:Good book overall. Fair amount of detail about what it takes to get into the Navy Seals and eventually, Seal Team Six. There are several personal narratives about combat missions in Somalia and such and interactions with other elite special ops (Delta Force and Australian SAS). Read more
Review:Chris Kyle was a living legend who will continue to be talked about for years to come. Right now with the country in such disarray we need a hero that we can believe in. Chris was such a man. There are many like him still out there trying to protect us. Honor them all. Chris would say and I believe, they are All Heroes. God Bless Him and his family. Read more
