Review:This is a classic and original book about the constant dismissal of the great achievements of ancient-to-modern black, mainly African, society in mainstream academic discourse, and the clear contributions of foreign invasion and colonialism to the downfall of several great African civilizations. Chancellor Williams is a direct, inspirational, and emotional writer, and clearly exhibits some anger toward Europeans and Arabs (referred to as Asians in this book) for their continual subjugation of th... Review:Updated on April 20, 2011:
I'm thrilled to finally be able to buy a 2nd copy that can take the abuse of several readings. This small book delivers a ton of information without boredom. James (the author) reveals a lot of historical facts based on his research (which he cites the sources). For example, the actual birth dates and time lived of Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates is still unsettled and argued. Review:Great informative and very enjoyable reading! I heard Mr. Unger when he was interviewed on NPR on October 1. His enthusiasm for his subject led me to download the book. Biographies have always been my favorite read, and this is surely no disappointment. I am very glad I was listening to NPR that day. Read more
Review:John Ortberg writes well. This was an interesting book. I purchased it for a Bible study.

But John wants you to feel Jesus as being a human, like we are, to understand that we can ... Read more
Review:This is well written, poignant memoir that would be a fabulous choice for a book club. The time spent reading is small and you can fly through the book because it is so interesting. It would inspire great discussions and bring a clarifying insight to life in North Korea. Read more
Review:A five star read! I would recommend it to anyone interested in the background of the famous painter and painting and the climate of pre-world war two Austria, as well as the measures taken to restore the painting to its rightful place. Read more
Review:In "Beyond Civilization" Daniel Quinn has yet again demonstrated his mastery of timely wordcraft. Quinn writes directly to the guilt-ridden, urban middle-class who sense something is dreadfully wrong with their lives, but are confounded by their intuitions. Once again, Quinn restates his ideas concerning the source of our contemporary cultural woes - the Agricultural Revolution which initiated a break from scavenging, gathering, hunting and Paleolothic tribal values. All this makes for ... Read more
Review:Tremendous information about the Sultan heritage and history. Exciting storyline. Could not give five stars because of excessive typos which is unnecessary..... wonder if this is just in the Kindle edition? Read more
Review:I loved some previous novels set in ancient egypt and was hoping this would be the same - not so. It was not well written and didn't build any excitement as you get towards the end. I barely finished this one. Read more
