Review:This book chronicles one person's tragic memories of life during Hitler's reign of terror. Nonna tells of the love of her family, and describes the horrors they endured unto death. Review:Detailed, specific and full of examples. Almost too horrific to read all the way through, but a "must-read" to appreciate just how cruel man can be to his fellow man, and be sure we do not let it happen again. Moving. Read more
Review:Surviving Hitler is written for people between the ages of 10- adults. The story is written about a real person's heroic journey during the time of the Holocaust. The author does a great job of capturing the reader with real black and white photographs accompanied by graphic details of the experiences of Janek Mandelbaum. Interwoven with historical developments I found the storyline and writing style to be captivating. May these stories continue to be told honoring those who suffered so much for life and freedom. Review:I have read most books about the concentration and extermination camps built by the Nazi's. I have also read a lot about Stalin's Gulags. This book was different in so many ways from the others. The research Ms. Helm did astounded me from the very first paragraph. It was very difficult to read due to the pain of these women, and I can barely think about what it must have been like to interview survivors and... Read more

John Henrik Clark breaks it down with references to support everything written in this book. Some people may not like what they will learn about Christopher Columbus but this information concerning the African slave trade and the European invasion of the "new world" is important not just to African Americans... Review:A hefty book, but definitely a good read. There is a DVD by the same title that goes through the author's search for his information for the book. Very interesting as well, but more a "behind the scenes" look at the making of the book. Read more
