Fathers and Sons (Dover Thrift Editions)
Fathers and Sons (Dover Thrift Editions)

Review:A great Russian classic but in the traditional Russian genre. Very descriptive writing of people and places with the "normal" tragic Russian ending. Turgenev easily captures the soul of Russian writers of the 18th century. Read more

The Widows of Malabar Hill (A Mystery of 1920s India)

Review:Having been a fan of Sujata Massey's award-winning Rei Shimura mystery series, I was thrilled to hear about this first Perveen Mistry mystery set in 1920s Bombay, India. There are two interwoven timelines in The Widows of Malabar Hill. One is present-day Bombay in 1921 which shows us Perveen working hard to become an integral part of her father's law firm. The second timeline takes us back to 1916 so we can learn what happened to Perveen to make her the woman she is five years later.

the moving New York Times bestseller for readers of ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE

The Chilbury Ladies' Choir: A Novel
The Chilbury Ladies' Choir: A Novel

Review:I had high hopes for this book based on reviews but I wish I had saved my money. None of the characters or plot threads are in any way believable. The end leaves a major plot issue unresolved. simplistic writing and one dimensional characters. Maybe she'll do better next time. Read more

Quicksilver: Number 11 in series (Arcane Society)
Quicksilver: Number 11 in series (Arcane Society)

Review:This second volume of the looking glass trilogy is much better than the first volume, the romance was more believable and the plot was less confused. For the most part, the secondary characters added to plot. A little bit formulaic, but fun reading experience.
I'm glad I bought it! Read more

A Companion to Seraphina (Seraphina Series) - Shadow Scale
A Companion to Seraphina (Seraphina Series) - Shadow Scale

Review:I really liked seraphina, but the sequel sucks.
-there are plot holes
-things aren't explained well and deaths are thoughtlessly skipped over
-I personally find it disgusting in that it presumes relationships with married men are okay if everyone is honest about it, or if they are 3-way.
-the conclusion is so unsatisfying! Read more

Review:I really like the personality and values of Miss Helena, and the way she intuitively seems to interpret much of Lucas' behavior. Not always, which leads to a few misunderstandings. But on the whole, each of them strongly admires traits in the other. Read more
