Review:Wilbur Smith has been turning out novels since the 1960's. He has lived in most of the southern nations of Africa and experienced many of the turbulant times that he has written about. Though he sometimes uses cliches ranging from broad shoulderd heros to sophisticated intelligent but very evil villians his novels deliver one to Africa. RAGE is either the fourth or perhaps the fifth installment of the Courtenay saga. It begins in the late 40's and concludes in the sixties with the struggle again... Read more
Review:I recently discovered Wilbur Smith's works, and am impressed with the way he combines history and fiction to create his family centered stories. The characters are fascinating - strong men and strong women. Read more

Review:Typically I read books about history, biographies, or memoirs. It is not to often I pick up a fiction book. Prior to finding an audio version of "Birds of Prey", I had no idea what a Swashbuckler story was (I had to look the term up). So basically, right off the bat, this was not the type of book I read and I really had no idea what to expect.
While I expected this to be the literary version of a pirate movie, I have to say I found the book surprisingly complex. On one hand, Birds of ... Read more
Review:Quite a change from the swash buckle pirates and sea faring adventures of the earlier Courtney family adventures. Friends were made and lost, lifelong loyalities portrayed and adventures were fast paced. The book is a real page turner and comes to a surprise ending begging for more chapters.

Review:Wilbur Smith is well established as one of the top novelists writing what I would describe as good old adventure novels. I have not read all of Mr. Smith's offerings, but I have enjoyed very much the ones that have Egypt as their backdrop.
As I had just finished reading a factual book about the Sudan, I thought it would be interesting to read Wilbur Smith's slant on both the country and also the siege of Khartoum. This battle is the main background for the novel.
It is easy for the... Read more
Review:The Blood Mirror was well crafted, well executed and continually surprising. If you've liked the Lightbringer series so far, this won't disappoint. But it feels like the first half of the conclusion of the series and not a volume to itself. Very enjoyable, but it raises a lot of questions without delivering as many answers. I expect the payoff will be big in the last volume, but it's not there yet. Read more
