Silent on the Moor (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery)
Silent on the Moor (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery)

Review:To be honest, I pretty much skimmed this one. Once I saw that Julia and Brisbane were going to continue their cat and mouse game I was having none of it.

I should also mention that I was entirely turned off when I found out that there was a "keeping it in the family" theme going on with some of the secondary characters. You think I'm kidding but I'm quite serious when I say there was some unashamed brother and sister action going on.

Gross.

On the plus side, we do get to see... Read more

Dark Road to Darjeeling (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery)
Dark Road to Darjeeling (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery)

Review:This series is always good about keeping the plot threads going through series as a whole. The cousins from 2 have returned here for a bit of resolution. Foundations are laid and we find others here as well. No plot spoilers for previous books but enough to make them series not stand alone more than by virtue of the characters. Very sad ending to this mystery but it fits in with the facts well. Read more

Silent in the Sanctuary (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery)
Silent in the Sanctuary (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery)

Review:I love this second installment of Lady Julia Grey's adventures. I think this one was even better than book 1. The March family are so eccentric and Lady Julia and Portia witty and droll and the mysteries keep me guessing for sure. Thankfully these are not harlequin romance as they sort of look in cover design but there is really little or no romance, it's always just out of reach. I suspect that will change as they go on because Brisbane and Lady Julia always spar as they solve the crimes, b... Read more

The Pride of Jared MacKade - 1000 (MacKade Brothers)

Review:And this was no exception to that rule. The people were believable and well written. You wonder just how long it will take Jared to realize the feelings he has is Love. Even though he is the last of the brothers left as bachelors, he still has no clue. Read more

Ragtime (Penguin Modern Classics)
Ragtime (Penguin Modern Classics)

Review:The Broadway musical "Ragtime" is one of my all-time favorite shows, yet I had never read the book. I finally bought it, and have mixed feelings. While I liked the story and the interweaving of fictional and real-life characters, my one big complaint is that the book seems to have been written for someone with a 6th grade reading level. Here is an example: "A certain light was still available along the Eastern Seaboard. Homer painted the light",or "'Stop the car' Evelyn said. Evelyn stepped... Read more

Demons and Druids (Daniel X)
Demons and Druids (Daniel X)

Review:With DEMONS AND DRUIDS, James Patterson and Adam Sadler take the Daniel X series to an entirely new level.

Daniel X is an extraterrestrial who had been living with his family on earth. When his parents and sister were killed in a sneak attack by intergalactic criminals, Daniel made it his mission to wipe them all out. He is a fairly powerful guy who is still testing the extent and limits of his powers. He is able to travel in time, conjure up friends from his home planet, and occasionally... Read more

A Mighty Fortress (Hymns of the West Book 1)

Review:Enjoyable reading. A christian fiction novel set in the late 1800's. The story of God's mercy and forgiveness, even for a hardened outlaw. The proof that it is never too late to receive God's forgiveness and grace. Read more

Highland Chieftain (The Murrays Book 21)
Highland Chieftain (The Murrays Book 21)

Review:The book left me with more questions than answers. It was an okay read, there was no passion or chemistry within all the characters. This book fell a little flat for me. A pity because this book had so much potential. Read more

The Flamethrowers: A Novel
The Flamethrowers: A Novel

Review:Surprisingly subtle and rich-textured. It developed into a much more imaginative work than the novel I thought I had started reading. I think I may have to read it again. I will pay attention to this author. I wonder if she reads Nicola Barker? Read more

Lords of the North: A Novel (Saxon Tales Book 3)
Lords of the North: A Novel (Saxon Tales Book 3)

Review:This is a good series. The life of Uhtred continues to be compelling reading. He has much to put up with but manages to come through stronger than ever. He's a strong character and you can't help but like him even if you don't agree with his actions. Read more
