Review:For those of you questioning how realistic this book is: I'm going to make my husband read it so he will understand what I lived through when I was an au pair in another country decades ago. Same stuff. The mother of the family I lived with spent exactly ten minutes a day with her four year old. When the children were sick at night they came to me, even when I was new to them. They'd learned long ago not to bother to go to their parents. The previous child's nurse had been fired because the youn... Read more
Review:I absolutely love it! I'd recommend it to anyone, especially to students who are graduating and about to enter the work force, so that they don't think life is so easy or if they make one mistake their lives are over.
It's good to know about successful people's lives and what they did to get where they are now and through this book, we have the opportunity to be up close and personal with them.
I hope she writes another one with another group of successful people. I also appreciate... Read more
Review:I found this book extremely helpful with my writing, as well as Linda Seger's other books. Her suggestions and ideas hit home again and again and my writing improved because of it. Since reading Linda Seger's books, I have had several scripts optioned, for both movies and television. Read more
Review:Wow... I am the first person to review this great book. Being a huge fan of wilwheaton.com I wasn't sure what the appeal would be of buying this book since everything in it had already been on the net. I don't know why but there is just something different when your reading it on paper than on the internet. Wil Wheaton does a great job telling these five short stories from his life. You will go from feeling sad when he talks about his aunt, to laughing out loud when he talks about his star trek ... Read more
Review:Of all the writers who write books for writers, James Scott Bell is up there in the Top 5. He's clear, concise and consistent. He delivers on exactly what he says, all in an easy-to-read style and actually provides solid, helpful and relevant advice for other writers. I have several of his books and this one is as good as all the others. In a market that is cluttered with How To books for writers, give most of them a miss and take this experienced writer's advice - it will be well worth it! Read more
Review:Really interesting approach to writing a novel.
My problem is that i start off with a gangbuster opening, get to the middle and then can't figure out a logical end. Using Bell's technique, you start with the middle of the story and work out.
He lays out very clear steps and lots of prompts to think differently about how you organize your writing. Well done. Read more
Review:This is a great book, and it knocked Blake Snyder's Save the Cat right off my bookshelf. It's funnier than hell, and the tip about writing outlines instead of screenplays was alone worth the $0.05 I paid for my used Amazon copy. And no joke, with my next script, I did that and had a completed (brilliant) script like two months later. The only issue I have with it is that I am not a successful Hollywood screenwriter yet, and I thought the book would help me take care of that pretty quickly. I mea... Read more
Review:It is more for visual presentation. It is small. Not meant to be played with. Snitch is attached to box and does not come off. I got as a gift for someone. She will like it. She can put it on her bookshelf. Read more
