I’ve been a devoted fan of this culinary school trained chef for a number of years. Each recipe in Jenn’s beautiful cookbook has been “tested and perfected.” You can count on this book for inspiration, guided by gorgeous photos and tips from a pro for perfection. Her Braided Honey Challah, complete with braiding directions, is a showstopper and incredibly delicious, but then all Jenn’s recipes are. Every single one!

I’ve been following Jenn’s Blog for years and it’s my go to for all of my recipes. I was so excited to see the book come to fruition and pre-ordered months ago and it was worth the wait. The book is easy and simple to follow, with all of my favorite recipes in one place as well as new ones I can’t wait to try.

If you’re a novice cook like I am, get this book. Youll fool everyone into thinking you’re a seasoned veteran.

Once Upon a Chef has long been a favorite cooking blog of mine. I know that the recipes are trustworthy. Following the photos for assembling the dish is helpful. I knew this cookbook would be a must for me and I have not been disappointed.

ERMERGERD. I LOVE Jennifer's recipes. They come out tasting like something you'd get in a restaurant, but are practical enough to cook on a busy weeknight. My kids love everything that has come from her recipes. Run, don't walk, to checkout with this book. RIGHT NOW! GO!

Oh yeah!!! I absolutely LOVE this cookbook!! Beautifully presented with lots of delicious-ly depicted “Tested and Perfected” recipes. Now that I’ve seen the actual cookbook I’m buying one for each of my sons-they love cooking too! The cookbook is every bit as scrumptious as Jenn’s Website! You’re in for a real treat and so are your loved ones.

I LOVE Jen's recipes and cookbooks. Everyone I've tried has been well-rec'd by a variety of people - young children through the older folks (like me :-). Her cookbook is lovely and the photographs add to the appeal of the recipe. Another thing I like about the recipes is that they are easy to make adaptations to suit our family when needed. Thank you!!

Nice book. Well laid out. Good photos and instructions. Unfortunately the majority of the recipes would not be enticements for my family to eat. I’d love to try them, though. However only I ,and maybe my husband, would enjoy them.

I preordered this book months in advance and it was the perfect housewarming gift to myself!

I first found Jenn’s blog when I was looking for the perfect Caesar dressing recipe. I have worked in commercial kitchens and consider myself an above-average (read: picky with recipes) home cook.

The issue I have with most food bloggers is that they don’t understand recipe creation or flavor balance, both very crucial elements in creating a successful cookbook or blog. Jenn’s recipes are truly tested and perfected; she excels at creating foolproof, yet delicious, recipes.

Onto the cookbook... this is a wonderful first cookbook, hopefully of many! I don’t mind that there are some blog recipes mixed in, especially because I didn’t even see some of the blog recipes until they were in the book (she has accumulated a ton of recipes on her site!). I’ve made a few already (off the top of my head: the quiche and the sausage bread pudding, both keepers). The cookbook is an assortment of classic recipes with a twist, which I suppose is where my *constructive* criticism comes in. When you only have so many pages to fit recipes that appeal to a wide audience, it’s difficult to please everyone. It’s not a dealbreaker for this cookbook at all, but the main course recipes aren’t something I, a Midwesterner who cooks for only two, would make on a weeknight. That’s okay and I knew that before the book arrived; these are definitely main-course recipes I’d break out for a special occasion. She also has to appeal to vegetarians, West coast moms, Florida grandparents, and everyone else. I hope in the future she can make a millennial-Midwesterner-who-loves-chicken-thighs-and-ethnic-food-but-also-doesn’t-like-to-plan-meals-24-hours-in-advance cookbook, but we’ll have to see about that. Also, I wish the cookbook paper were glossy! I like cookbooks with character, but the paper used just seems to attract stains.

Onto the good: basically everything else. Jenn has a knack for creating recipes that anyone can make, whether from their Viking range or their crappy apartment electric range. The appetizer section, baked goods section, and breakfast section are pure gold. I am a sucker for wild rice salads and beet salads. She also doesn’t post too many soup recipes on her blog, so I’m glad she put a decent amount in the book! I’ve made 5+ recipes already and the best thing about Once Upon a Chef is that you will never waste time, money, and energy on a poor recipe. They are all perfect for one audience or another.

P.S.: her tips scattered throughout the book are sure to give any novice or intermediate cook some tidbits of information and confidence!

I’ve been following Jenn’s blog online for many years and have never been disappointed with any of her recipes. Her cookbook won’t disappoint you either! I made the Blueberry scones with tart lemon glaze. They were the most tender and moist scones I’ve ever had. They were easy to make and my boyfriend loved them. Will definitely be making them for breakfast when friends come to visit next week.

I stumbled upon Jennifer on Pinterest while looking for a good Blueberry Muffin recipe. It was awesome and I have been looking at her recipes ever since. I just received her book and have already tried several recipes. I love her style. She uses basic ingredients and helps you turn them into something special. I can’t wait to try the rest of them! I’m a fan.

I have been following Jennifer's recipes via e-mail and online starting with the basil walnut pesto. So this was a must have. I have made a few of the recipes previously and love, love, love them. Knowing I can see these recipe videos online is a plus. I have purchased an additional book as a gift for a friend that is a fabulous cook! She loves it. #onceuponachefcookbook

It is obvious that each recipe has been tested and tried to deliver the best dish. I have followed her blog, and it is the first place I go when needing inspiration. Please try her chocolate chip cookies, found on her website......They are everything a cookie should be! They are the most requested recipe from my family!!! Cooking from her book or her blog makes you feel empowered to serve Delicious meals! Thank you Jennifer, you are truly a part of my life!

I have followed Jennifer Blog for a couple of years now and enjoyed all her blog recipes. I pre-ordered this cookbook last Nov and received the cookbook last Spring....and absolutely have love it. I have tried a number of recipes and have not found one I did not like My current favorite is the Challah Bread, it is truly a yeast bread that take a little time to prepare but it is wonderful. It makes a very large loaf, suitable for entaining or other large gathering of people. Thanks J for a great book and keep up the good 'cooking'.

I virtually never buy hardcover books; I'm a kindle reader all the way. However, when I realized I was downloading and printing Jenn's recipes every week, I decided to order the book. It is full of wonderful, easy and family friendly recipes, and while I still occasionally download one, I can now tuck it into the book instead of wondering where I put it. An added bonus is that it looks really pretty sitting on my countertop!

I’ve been following “Once Upon a Chef” as a blog for a couple of years and have loved her recipes, so when she came out with a cookbook, I knew I wanted to add that to my collection. It is full of wonderful recipes … liked it so much that I ordered a second one for my close friend’s birthday! Love it!

All of the recipies are reliable and easy to follow. I purchased this book to support the author since I have been free-loading all of her recipes for years from her website. I enjoy the photos and the shopping footnotes and tips. I pledged to myself to make the entire book! This is my most used cookbook (over my volumes of Ina Garden).

My family would be living on cold cereal without Jen's recipes! I am one of those people that can't make up stuff on my own in the kitchen. I need recipes that don't take a ton of time and that are clear and easy to follow. Since there is rarely time for a plan B, I am happy that I can always rely on her recipes. I happened upon her website a few years ago and was stunned that everything we tried was successful, delicious, and a hit with the kids. So, of course, I had to buy her cookbook! You won't be disappointed.

Great chef! I followed her blogs for years and have never had a recipe of hers to fail. I am delighted to have this book. It contains a good assortment of recipes to choose from, and all are delicious! Most are also easy.
I keep most of my cookbooks on the shelf for one or two go-to recipes. Jennifer’s is full of excellent and delicious choices! I recommend it highly.
Some take me a little longer than they take her, but that’s okay. They are worth it!

I have cooked many of the author’s recipes from her newsletter, so I knew I needed to buy this cookbook! This is the first cookbook I have bought in at least ten years. Ms. Segal’s recipes are interesting, delicious, and well explained. My favorites so far from the book are the halibut with tomatoes and basil, the sautéed asparagus and peas, and the curry roasted carrots. Next up I’m trying the indoor s’mores and the roasted chard with feta. Yum!
This book would make a great gift or a great addition to your kitchen.

I’ve been looking forward to this cookbook. I did not know of Jenn’s Blog, but each time we visited a friend, who is a superb cook, and asked for the recipe of something she prepared that was wonderful, it was from Jennifer’s blog. Jenn is clearly an excellent chef! I am so happy to have this in my cookbook collection and look forward to preparing her many recipes.

Jennifer Segal has some of the best recipes! I have been following her blog and was excited to find out she was also writing a cookbook. I love that her recipes are family friendly but most importantly they are delicious! I made the halibut, carrots, and roasted potatoes tonight (all from this cookbook), and it was relatively easy and everyone loved it. I love the side notes that teach you shortcuts and chef tips.

Beautiful cookbook with clear instructions. Pleased to have a hard copy collection of some of Jennifer Segal's recipes. Since receiving have made the Apple Crisp and the Almost Southern Biscuits. Loved the combination of oats and chopped pecans in the apple crisp topping. Biscuits were very light and tasty.

We have followed her blog and used her recipes for years! We have tried tons of her recipes and every single one is a hit! I was so excited for this cookbook's release and it has lived up to our expectations. I LOVE the weight of the pages and the photos. I have been following Jenn's blog for two years. Her recipes never fail to turn out delicious. I have made so many of her recipes and my family and friends are always asking for seconds and a copy of the recipe. When the book arrived i put everything aside to read it from cover to cover. My problem now is which recipe to try first. Thank you Jenn, your passion and caring show in everything you do.

Once Upon a Chef, the Cookbook is truly a treasure and for me, has long been awaited. Jennifer's writing style and explanations are super easy to understand, follow and execute. Over the years, Jennifer has become my "go to" source for tried and true and new and delicious recipes. I learned the true meaning of the term "depth of flavor" after having tried her recipes for black bean and corn salad with chipotle honey vinaigrette, and pasta e fagioli...they are amazingly delicious and not labor intensive at all!!! Last night I made the Pan-seared halibut with cherry tomatoes & basil (see photo)...another hit...and my wife who doesn't really care for anything with vinegar as an ingredient, couldn't stop raving about how good it was. I am thrilled to have this cookbook at my finger tips as a resource for simple and delicious food. You can't go wrong with this one, it's simply a treasure!!!
