Dr. Seuss books are a favorite around our home at bedtime with their fantastic illustrations, tongue twisting prose and timely messages. Most Dr. Seuss books can easily be enjoyed by children of all ages "The Lorax" is no exception its pages glisten with brightly colored landscapes, interesting creatures and an imperative message. If you don't have it you should pick it in fact pick up a few others while your at it. I would recommend The Butter Battle Book: (New York Times Notable Book of the Year) (Classic Seuss),Oh, the Places You'll Go Pop-Up", The Sneetches and Other Stories. It easy to forget but "Unless someone like you...cares a whole awful lot...nothing is going to get better. ..It's not."

I absolutely loved watching the original Lorax movie when I was a kid, and I wanted to share the story with my kids. Coincidentally, shortly after I purchased this, the new movie was released, so we can watch the movie, then read the book and discuss the differences in the storyline.

In a word, profound. Our family has enjoyed this book for years - it never gets old. And as our kids have grown, the philosophical questions that stem from this book have taken it to an engaging new level. It has opened discussion about consumption, the environment, rights and privileges, stewardship and more. Once again, Seuss works serious magic with words.

Very cute book. Great price compared to book stores. We come from a family of hunters, and love moose in the wild, on the dinner table & moose themed decore. But beware - this book doesn't portray hunters in the best light...

We have been checking this book out periodically for the last couple months. I finally bought it on the store, and it came in the mail 2 days early (Just in time for Christmas!). We own about 15 Dr.Seuss books, but this one is by far my 21 month old sons favorite! Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose is one book I don't mind reading over and over; which is good because I'll be reading it for years to come.

I'll keep this review short and say that the story line has the valuable lesson of voicing your opinion and standing up for yourself. I also like the illustrations. They are the classic, slightly kooky but recognizable Seuss characters. My son loves to (try to) say the names of the woodland creatures that pile up on poor Thidwick's head.

This book is a must have.

My children have their own copy of The Lorax. We bought this one to send to their grandfather who is very involved in environmental issues. He immediately gained another level of respect for Dr. Seuss. It just goes to show that The Lorax is a book for all generations.

This translation is faithful to the content and rhyme scheme of the original, but its very faithfulness makes it incredibly awkward to read aloud. I bought this for my bilingual two-year-old, who loves the English version, based on the positive reviews for this translation, and I only made it a third of the way through the book before my tongue was exhausted. Comparing the two versions, I found each line of the Spanish to have an average of 50% more syllables name of the original. This not only makes it cumbersome and awkward; it also destroys the easy rhyme scheme of the English version, since you have to make it through so many syllables to get to the rhyme - your ear has already forgotten it. I admire the intent, but I'm sending it back because I just don't think I can make it through all the way!

Incidentally, it took two years for me to cave and buy Spanish translations after a long, fruitless, ultimately enlightening search for the Spanish- language equivalent of Dr. Seuss. It doesn't exist - there are a few well known poems and nursery rhymes, but the language simply lacks the kind of rich children's literature tradition we have in English. I report this as a fully bilingual academic scholar of Spanish Literature who has lived for years in Spain. For now, we will simply make do with the few Spanish-language children's translations that are comfortable to read, a volume or two of nursery rhymes, and non-book sources of Spanish language stimulation.

My favorite book and my daughter (2yo) loves it as well. We need to take care of the planet, but a few of us actually do that. Now we need to write a book about Monsanto and GMOs, as they are causing death for all of the planet.

What a great story! A good lesson indeed! Especially love the line about things will not get better if no one cares! You can't get much better than Dr. Seuss - amusing, entertaining, and educational too!
