FOR BEING SUCH A SIMPLE SHORT BOOK, THIS BECAME A FAST FAVORITE OF BOTH OF MY DAUGHTERS - WHO ARE 3 YEARS OLD AND 18 MONTHS OLD. OUT OF THE DOZENS OF BOOKS THEY HAVE THEY ALWAYS BRING ME THIS BOOK AND WANT ME TO READ THEM "THE ALFIE BOOK". BEST MONEY EVER SPENT!

My granddaughter is a kindergarten student and these books were very fun, entertaining, and captured her attention. They were a great addition to our at home library and ensured we get in the 30 minutes of reading daily to support her continued progress in school. EXCELLENT product, seller is great, and the product delivery was outstanding.

I love reading this story to my two children, ages 4 & 3. They love the illustrations and the story teaches a great lesson about manners. The book is priced right and I think that it will be a great book for my son to learn to read very soon.

Perfect for the ESL classroom. From taking about colors to shapes to teaching kids to ask for "May I please....". Beyond the story, the concepts are wonderful from dressing up to climbing a tree, my young ESL students couldn't get enough of this story.

Bought this book because I just needed a few more dollars for the stores free shipping. And I'm sooooo glad I did!! It's such a great book to teach kids manners. Very well written. And the illustrations are right on too. The mothers eyes looked so sad when she couldn't give Alfie a cookie. Love reading this book

This book was an absolute success. From the very first day it was been read time after time after time. Everyone in the family knows all the words and my grandson still asks for it be read to him daily. Great pictures and colors, too.

This book is a short read with nice illustrations. There is obviously a lesson for children to learn if needed, but my children already ask nicely for things so they were confused at why Alfie was acting the way he did to get the cookie. The first time the mom told him to find a better way, my kids said to ask and say please. Luckily this is entertaining and my children liked it enough to make the purchase worth it. The kids had no interest in this when I got it but I started reading it out loud and they immediately became interested because of the illustrations. There are a lot of bigger words in here that are not normal words for early readers so parents might have to help children with the words. I read the books first for my oldest and then let him try if he wants. He liked the story but didn't really care to read it on his own.
In the description, it also lists a "Fluency Fun" page at the end of the book but that does not exist in the copy that I purchased (paperback version). I don't know if it exists in the other versions but if that is something you like having then don't expect it in the paperback version.

A wonderful story!! Incredibly cute, well written for little children learning their first words, and tells a great story that teaches even precocious, sneaky children the value of good manners. The illustrations are colorful and cute as well.

Super adorable illustrations accompany this imaginative story about a little alligator that wants a cookie. Little Alfie tries everything to get a cookie, but his mom keeps saying no.
Finally, with a little help from mom, he figures out that he needs to say please.
The best part about this story were the illustrations. They were absolutely fantastic, and perfect for the age level. The word choices were simple and the text was nice and large to make identifying letters and words easier for beginning readers. There were just a few words to each page, making it a nice length and not too intimidating for a child that is just learning to read.
Sometimes I feel like children's books get a little too preachy and try to teach a lesson too often. Most of the time when my kids or I read a book, it is simply for entertainment. However, the clever ways that Alphie comes up with to get a cookie balance out the "lesson" of the book so that it doesn't come off as overly preachy.
