Resisting Trump's Shock Politics and Winning the World We Need

Once again Naomi Klein uses her knowledge of shock and awe and the current political situation to educate us and even guide us toward a possible positive outcome in a climate that appears hopelessly far from our care of our common home. Amazingly current, a must read that keeps the reader looking forward to each page

As usual, Naomi Klein delivers a powerful, and articulate, activist argument, from a Marxist-Feminist point of view. Just as the Trump family is influenced by a capitalist heritage, Klein writes from the perspective of her communist background. Therefore, it is no surprise that they should be in stark opposition, in philosophy, and practice.

Since I share her concern for environmental conservation, and disdain for polluting fossil fuels, plastics, and petrochemicals industries, I was much more in alignment with her previous book, THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING, to which I happily applied a five star rating. With regard to her feminist agenda, I beg to differ. My interests, and perceptions, as a military veteran, and retired business executive, do not necessarily coincide with those expressed by the author, in her current work, albeit thoughtful, and well written.

For me, it remains to be seen how President Trump treats we veterans, who he has frequently praised, in the forthcoming implementation of his budget, and current reorganization of the Veterans Administration. Because I can empathize with Mr. Trump, due to various shared elements of our backgrounds, including having a demanding father, as a tough taskmaster, in a family business setting, I am not as quick to accept the critical commentary directed at the President by his political adversaries. In fact, I am repelled by the character assassination, some of which forms the tread of Klein's analysis.

Naomi Klein was able to reveal the articulation between the private interests of a particular segment of capital, which seizes the governments of the United States. Although it does not present a deeper analysis it is informative enough to understand that it poses a global threat.

This is an extraordinarily clear, organized enumeration of things that have been swirling around in your head, and some excellent suggestions of what to do about it!

I'd love this book for the rationality, smartness and concision of the demonstrations. Great book to pull back from today such an odd and depressing situation and look forward for changes in what we will no longer accept from our politicians, changes also in our own behavior so as to gain a better future.

I highly recommend this book to any one who wants to understand the constant chaos of the Trump administration. Klein brings clarity to an otherwise distracting and misleading media dumping presidency. With regard to Russia, "the fossil fuel sector is the conspiracy hiding in plain site: (p. 73). Klein clearly gets that Trump is about putting corporations in charge. It isn't a question of another crisis being exploited, be it now Harvey, North Korea, new economic bubbles bursting from deregulation, these are already happening. Klein's point: it is how we resist being manipulated once again. Klein is a realist about what we are in the midst of with Trump, yet hopeful that the public will connect in real time conversation with one another. Her "Leap Manifesto" at the end of this book calls for activism from "a caring majority within reach."

Naomi Klein provides an insightful fact-based analysis of American current political, social, and existential state. She covers many topics in her work, from Trump himself being presented as a "brand" (a concept that is integral to her previous works) to the issues of climate change. The first half of the book is dedicated to a presentation of facts and some background history, which sets the ground for the second half of the book - a call, and a rather specific plan, for action. In spite of being direct in dealing with facts and not beating about the bush in describing the problems that our society is facing, Naomi Kelin's book ends on a high and hopeful note, leaving the reader with a belief that things can change.

Just as "Shock Doctrine" to me was a fantastic unified theory about why the world around me seemed to be making no sense. This just released book is a treasure, as is Naomi. Some events in the book are very current, she may have written this quickly, but it is filled with important and new thinking. Anyone interested in what is going on, and how to stop Trump (she clearly point how it is not ONLY Trump, trump is a symptom, we need to strike the system that culminates in Trump) and had a lot of great information as well as excellent points about stopping the left "silo politics" as she ties the different causes together.

Hard to explain in a quick review. This book is excellent.

A decade later,Naomi Klein nails it again with this follow up to her increasingly proven thesis, The Shock Doctrine. It's an easy read that not only takes the reader, step by step, through the first six months of the 45th presidency, but also offers sound advice to effectively resist the dangerous lunacy that appears to be President Donald J Trump. I thoroughly enjoyed this timely book by Ms Klein. It has compelled me to get involved in my own community in preparation for the next shock wave that may be used to strip away our civil rights and place us all in the "Red Zone." If you are serious about the resistance, read this book!

The Election of Trump makes anyone who cares about this country SICK. Waking up the day after the results were confirmed made me acknowledge the weakness of our democracy: Most voters are not critical thinkers. So sad.

Naomi has been doing her thinking and researching for many years, and her book gives soothing to those who know we can do better.

Pretty good read. The book, admitted early on by the author, is a bit of a summary of her previous works and how they relate to the election this past November. On the whole the idea is sound and a welcome addition to anyone looking to push back against the unbalanced politics of the moment.

Very well written and straight to the point, with very enlightening stories about what is behind Trump and his inner circle related to the climate change threat. A must read for anyone willing to have not only a sharp view on the subject, but a positive and hopeful call to action, if we act now.

Naomi Klein is a good writer. She pulls together all the loose ends that one wonders what are all about and what's happening. Although this book reviews her book Disaster Capitalism, it's good to be reminded of the forces that rule our world.
