A wonderful, lovely story of finding true love, in a unique setting. There are lots of fallen angel stories out there, but this one is more true to life than most, with beauty and strife. This is my favorite Elizabeth Hunter novel so far.

As per usual, Elizabeth Hunter is great. This series is a bit more heart- wrenching than usual, but still awesome. Great world-building, characters, and magic system. Sucks you in, breaks your heart and sends you running to the next book.

An exceptionally written book with a somewhat different type of paranormal (which I won't go into here so as to not ruin any of the "wow" moments of the book). The setting was beautiful and obviously thoroughly researched. I loved how I got to know the main characters and watch them interact before any romance started. (Definitely no insta-love here.) They were both very strong individuals with some vulnerabilities that made them feel like true people. There was a wonderful mix of character driven moments mixed with action and mystery, and even humor.
I hesitated to read this book at this time because I heard there was a kind of cliffhanger and I am impatient. But I couldn't resist and was ok with the end. Just hope the wait isn't too long as I am looking forward the to next books.

Takes a little too long to get into the characters. I might have given up, but I was enjoying looking up all the places in Turkey she mentioned and described. Made me want to go there. In the end, she moved the plot along, and I was glad I stick it out. I grade it a low B. Not horrible by any means. But not spectacular.

A little disappointed. Since this was highly rated by reviewers, I was looking for something more exciting and compelling. The story and characters are OK, not great. The writing is fine, but nothing I read makes me want to move on the the next book. I'm satisfied with reading the synopses of the next books.

This book, like all others by her, is just wonderful. Great characters/character development - I care about all of them; great dialogue; great story - totally engaging the whole way through. Just the right blend of kick-ass story and characters, nice blend of romance and sexiness - Ms. Hunter - you ROCK. Love the vampire series (and I am so not a vampire person - it is the first vampire series I will read every one you write, possibly more than once!) and L-O-V-E- love this one. Can't hardly WAIT for May 6th for the next one to come out. PLEASE keep writing - this series, vampire series, anything. You are a joy to read.

I have only read one other series by Elizabeth Hunter and really enjoyed the journey it took me on. I have a feeling this one will do the same. Great story line and character development. What a story!

I really enjoyed this book. The pace of the story was perfect and plot was engaging. The heroine was a strong character without being obnoxious. I'll be honest and admit that I shed a couple of tears. I just really hate how these stories are dragged out to force me to keep purchasing a book and authors write these drawn-out book series. To the author and the publisher please make the book longer and get on with the story. Release the story when you're done with it. It worked for House of Cards on Netflix. My attention span is such that I will probably not read the sequel because I've moved on to something else. Some stories require multiple volumes, Game of Thrones or Stephen King's Gunslinger, but this isn't one of the them.

This was an exciting, well written, fast read as well as an excellent foundation for the rest of the series. It is a refreshingly new vision of the ancient battle between Good vs Evil, and a unique take on what happened to those Angels (and their offspring) whom had fallen from grace. The writing is not poetic but neither is it boring or crude. The character development and world building we superb and I am excited to start book #2 right away.

Elizabeth Hunter is my new favorite author. I discovered her writing a year or so ago when one of her Elemental Mystery books was offered for free via the store. I gobbled the entire series up very quickly and was so excited to see that she had started another.
The concept of The Scribe is a bit more foreign than the Elemental Series but she eases the reader into this world quickly and with ease. Her writing flows so that you forget you are reading and become involved with just the story. I became attached to the characters very quickly and read the book in four hours (on a plane ride from the East to West coast). I can't WAIT for the sequel!

This book was wonderful. I might have read it too fast, I was so anxious to find out what happens. Although the love story does remind me a bit of Gio and Beatrice, it still has a unique storyline that it completely it's own. It's a wonderful concept and kept me intrigued to learn more.
I have read all of this author's book with the Elemental series coming in first, then The Scribe (even though I've only read one book of the series), the Shifting Dream books comes in last, since I felt that one lacked something. But for the most part, this author always keeps me on my toes and I adore all her characters.

Elizabeth Hunter is such a great writer. The world that she created for the Irin series is amazing. This book is truly a love story but there is enough action, excitement, and mystery happening at the same time that you never get board. The characters are interesting and I'm excited to see how they will grow over the next few books. Some people have complained about the cliff hanger ending but if you read the elemental series you should know that's her writing style. She wants to keep you guessing. I will defiantly be reading every book in this series. Good job again Ms. Hunter.

Just like her Elemental Mysteries series, Elizabeth Hunter's new Irin Chronicles looks to be just as fantastic. I am already very attached to the vivid characters and desperately hoping that Malachi comes back.
The way the author makes her character relationships soul-deep, where each person feels they cannot exist without the other, is truly addictive. Soul mates and then some. One really wishes that they could find a love so amazing and true, too.
I am so looking forward to the next book.
If you haven't read the Elemental Mysteries series, do! It is one of my all-time favorite urban fantasy/romance series. Definitely a favorites list must-have.

Okay, I read all of the Elemental Mystery books, and well, I loved them! The characters are rich and three dimensional, the venues in which the story takes place are delightful.
But The Scribe...wow. I'm just not sure how to explain it. Unique characters, far removed from the "fad" vampires and werewolves that paranormal romance has become so full of. Instead, a new race of beings, with profound passions, pain, longings, and loneliness. I can't even imagine how I'm going to wait until the next book in the series comes out. But when it does, I plan to buy it immediately, and delve into the the depths of a truly magical story.

This book frustrated me at some points as the lovers took a while to trust in their feelings. And although I understand it it was still infuriating. Still i loved their story and the steamy sex scenes

Elizabeth Hunter weaves tales of love, friendship, conflict and adventure. The worlds and people she thoughtfully creates are people you wish you could sit down with and have a long conversations about art, philosophy, religion and reality in general. However, their realities are part of what makes the stories even more intriguing . I practically finished this book in one sitting, could literally not put it down. I am so glad there are two more in the works . I highly recommend this start to a highly anticipated trilogy. I also recommend her other books, especially the Elemental Mystery series.. Wonderful stories!

Ms. Hunter did it again! I loved her Elemental Mysteries series and this one is as good as that one. I can't wait to pick up the next book. Her characters are vivid and her world building spectacular. I can almost see the tourists swarming Constantinople and Kusadasi and smell everything.

Wow what a story. This is actually my second time thru this book as I wait anxiously for next week's publication of the third book in the series. It's even better the second time around. All your emotional strings will get pulled here. The story is at times touching, numerous, nail-biting and at the end wrenching. The writing and editing were very well done. No annoying typos etc. do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Fascinating series of Books, I am pleased to recommend Elizabeth Hunter's work. An escape, yet a comfortable feeling that these could be our next-door neighbors as they are well salted among the general population, yet with amazing capabilities and characteristics. Read all of the books in the complex series, you will enjoy each for itself; and as a part of a greater story and cast of characters!

liked it but i got totally lost while reading it... it took a while for me to understand what was going on
i bought the second and third books as well--- i have read the second and enjoyed it (although i was teary-eyed in parts), and i started the third but it's not a book that i'm dying to finish and find out the ending
good, i'd recommend, but a warning: you might get confused easily

Phenomenal story! Pacing was perfect. Characters very well developed. Detailed imagery and backdrop. A beautiful romance story that leaves you gasping from the constant clenching of your heart. A bittersweet ending that leaves you on the edge of desperation to get your hands on the next book. I have read the Elemental series and I see a tremendous improvement in her writing. You will not regret purchasing this book...but you will hate the wait for the next book due out Spring 2014.

I enjoyed reading The Scribe. Very interesting concept and easy read. I like the author’s writing style.
I did find the main character a bit irritating at times. Why do women have to be portrayed as people that constantly have to fight and throw tantrums to be perceived as strong? Anyway, story was well-written and I have already started on the second book – The Singer and I am still intrigued by the storyline and very interested to see where this story is going.

Elizabeth's stories always suck you in. Once started, nothing less than sheer exhaustion, will let you put it down. (The dark circles under my eyes today can attest to this!)
The Scribe is no different! I didn't think Ms Hunter's writing could get any better, but it does! Every book is more intriguing and moving than the last! My heart just about stopped at a certain pivotal moment in this book. And then....the evil cliffie!!! I can imagine the author writing the last lines with a gleeful and slightly evil chuckle. :)
Just buy it!! You will NOT be disappointed!

Loved this book! Instantly liked the characters and the setting. She's woven old biblical stories into a great and believable story. I love the leads damaged and sassy personality. The romantic interest is a strong and bold character that holds his own, she uses great discriptive details and these characters are whole and you can't help but love them.
Having read her Elemental Mysreries, I was already a big fan. This book is by far her best yet and I'm waiting in anticipation for the next!

This author is fast becoming one of my favorites to read. I really liked this series, but enjoyed her Elemental series a bit more due to the humor in the books.

I enjoyed The Scribe; I have read Elizabeth Hunter's elemental series and enjoyed them, and was more than willing to give this new series a chance. The characters are very well developed, and the storyline moves along at a logical pace. The story is different enough to hold my interest, not the "same old, same old". My only complaint at this point is that I have to wait for the next book in the series to come out - and so far there is no scheduled release date. Ms. Hunter, please write faster!

Hunter is a gifted author, thorough in her research and it shows in this story.
I'm super impress with this story but would have loved it to be clean.
However I am again impress at the details and master design of her charechters, abilities and the originality of this story. I keep it in my collection for that reason.

Just finished all three of this series. I purchased each separately, The Scribe happen to be on sale for .99, so I thought I would give it try try. I'm glad I did. Love the story line and the characters. A smooth and exciting read. You'll find friendship, humor, romance, mystery, love, complications and much more in this series.

Great story based on a highly improbable thesis, which the writer, Elizabeth Hunter?, makes entirely believable, exciting, and keeps you on the edge of your chair. I told myself that if she killed off my favorite character, I would stop reading any of her books. She did! However, a single paragraph at the end of the book describes a man waking up in a grass field somewhere, and not remembering who he is. Encouraging, and maybe I will read the sequel.

I was so captivated by the characters in this book, so drawn into their lives and myth that I read the entire book in one sitting. I did not feel as if the main events in the book were over dramatized, which would have made the book feel schlocky. Ms. Hunter seems able to create "real" characters that you can care about, but still imbue them with supernormal powers. I am looking forward to book two!

This was an "all night" read - could not put this book down. A very unique style and story line, but definitely the best (and first) of the trilogy. If you start it, be prepared to read the other two books. They were nth a little more predictable and I guessed the ending of the third halfway through the second book, but it is still a good ride and a good read.

I love this author's work. This was another exciting and interesting read. At first it's a little confusing trying to digest the differences and definitions of the scribes, irin, fallen, forgiven, grigori, etc. But once you figure that out you're good to go. Loved the characters. I can't wait until the next book comes out and I'm a bit disappointed that it can't be pre-ordered yet even though it has a release date in May.

Fantastic book! Sexual tension, check! Deep characters, check! Great world development, check!
My ONLY complaint with this book is the way it ends. Otherwise, loved it so much that I bought a hard copy once I'd finished reading it on my kindle.
Try and sample, and if you like it, I'd recommend buying the book. Just beware... this is book 1 of 3.

I found Elizabeth Hunter a while ago, and am amazed, and delighted by her stories. Currently I have 13 of her books, and while I love her other series, this one is brilliant. Smooth, interesting, unpredictable, well worth the cost, and I have already read the other two in the series - and am breathless waiting for the next one. This is an author that I would happily chain to her desk (even though I know that is bad!). Buy it, well worth the cost.
Can't wait for the next one :)

WOW AND WOW, Elizabeth Hunter you are a painter of stories.. I felt sadness, fear and deep love between Malachi and Ava. The story you painted took me places and gave me visions of the cities and streets as though I were actually there. I have read all the Brotherhood series as well .. you are truly amazing thank you

OMG i love the authors writing style it is flawless. The scenes she describes are in the perfect amount of detail you really see the whole picture. The characters relationship are so dynamic you cant help but fall in love with them. I must have sighed out loud more then a hundred times. The internal thought and thought processes of each character seem so real, you really feel like you know them and want keep reading wishing the book was longer

I tried this book not knowing the author but seeing the high star rating on Goodreads. I am now a big fan. Well written, intelligent, imaginative and not just romance but action, adventure and mystery. Very interesting new perspective and twist on an ancient mythology. Read the entire Trilogy in 2.5 days. Well done Ms. Hunter!

I loved this book and was soooo disappointed that I have to wait until May 2014 for the next one. I bought the kindle version and was happy to say they give you a chapter of the next book so you weren't left totally hanging. A definite good read. The first part is slow and you have to be patient to figure it out, but once you get about a fourth of the way through, you will be hooked. I LOVED IT!!!!

What an amazing story line. Strong characters, great plot. Elizabeth, take your time writing, don't rush a thing. This is going to be a great ride.
