My son likes this book. It is fun and entertaining and the repeating phrases make it easy to 'read along' with. I like the cut out pages that make it really fun to look at. It can also help kids get over fear of a monster.

This has been my daughter's all time favorite book. It is easy enough for her to learn to read the book herself. She loves making the monster appear one part at a time as we turn each page and then making him disspear in reverse order. To pictures are vivid and memorable. The best part is the end where the monster disappears and we read "and don't come back until I say so." It is a great book and I would definitely recommend it for preschool age or a little older.

My boy in Kindergarten loves this book! He kept checking it out of the school library over and over again. It makes for a silly fun time reading it together, and just takes a few minutes to go through.

This book is so clever and imaginative that a parent will have fun reading this clever cut-out book to their child. My students that I mentor loved it and also discussed things that might scare them. Adorable.

This is a fantastic book to use with beginning readers. The words are in large font so good for kids with visual impairments as well. The colors are a little on the dark side but the illustrations are simple and the sentences are simple. The book is also good at teaching colors and parts of the face and the words that go with each.
An excellent book to read to with toddlers and beginning readers. All this and lots of fun as well.

One reviewer said that this may introduce fears of monsters and other scary stuff to a child who hasn't already thought of it. That's the best... because then you don't have to deal with a long term problem, not the easiest stage to face it. Developmentally, they will sooner or later have fears of the unknown.
The children I have read this book to have loved it... every one. The repetitive nature of saying, "Go away!" makes it endearing to small people, who are learning to predict from page to page. The construction of monster building and dismantling helps the children to face scary things, by letting them face the individual aspects one by one.
In terms of plot, plot isn't necessarily important or relevant to very small children. Plot comprehension comes later. This is an excellent book for children who aren't ready for a simple plot and very entertaining for those older children who are.

I started unsung this in story times years ago and couldn't wait to purchase is for my grandson. Colors, shapes, face features are good lessons but take second seat to empowering a child to chase away a monster. Engineering is enough to intrigue the adult reader along with the child. Repetitive chant is great for pre-readers.

I bought this off of a recommendation and made felt pieces to match story. I was surprised at hoe much my 3-5 jr olds live this. We read this every day and they are now choosing this as a book for reading time. I have ordered others in this series from the same author. Great book

After checking this book out from the library once, then spending 20 minutes trying to find it again when my daughter's begged for it, I decided it was time to buy it. Both my girls love this book. We just got it in the mail. My two year old squealed like I'd given her a puppy. I highly recommend this book.

A very fun, powerful book for little ones. It gives them the opportunity to tell the monster to go away bit by bit. Example:Go away white sharp teeth, and then the teeth dissapear until the monster is all gone. This was a favorite in my preschool class, and now is a favorite with my grandson. It's also fun to create your own monster out of construction paper, and discuss how monsters are just pretend, etc...
