Good pace, decent enough of characters (though a bit overblown). The concept for the war was excellent, though the collapse of the enemy was not in line with what a knowledgeable reader would expect. Overall, good entertainment, light on the thought, but heavy on the action.

A great trilogy following Rade Galaal and his squad of MOTHs as they are send to investigate a possible new threat to humanity. Hoplite picks up where Atlas 3 left off and dives right into the action, but knowledge of Rade's previous adventures is not required as this trilogy easily reads as a stand-alone series.
As usual Mr. Hooke's descriptions are vivid, his details imaginative, and his technical details and world building elaborate efforts. I very much enjoyed this trilogy and reading more about the adventures of Rade and his friends in 'The Argonauts' series.

Isaac Hooke is a young writer and writers take time to develop; I also haven't liked his Battle Harem series, so I didn't know if I'd enjoy this Alien War trilogy. With the comparative power of the alien race, I didn't see a practical way for then to not win a way. With the human government not seeking coexistence, a (losing) war seemed inevitable; but Hooke put together an admirable ending, tying together disparate strings in a satisfyingly balanced way. I was particularly happy with his treatment of AI. Most authors do not handle the advantages, dangers, and human nature involved nearly so well.

This is an easy comparison to Hooks original Atlas stories. We get to know the individual characters and even emotionally invest in them amid the excitement that seems to follow this team. The series are easy to read and you don't need to have read any of his previous works to follow along. It wraps up some of the loose threads if your a avid reader of Rade and his travels, but overall is a independent series away from the main story line.
This is a great way to see if your into the Hook universe, and in my humble opinion a great buy.

Lots of great action and suspense as to the outcome of each battle and a good sense of what combat must really feel like. The central characters were well developed. Unfortunately, their maturity is that of a bunch of high school boys. Maybe that is in fact typical of guys in the military; I don’t know. But I would have expected a more grown up sense of humor. Their code of honor to those they regard as “brothers” is admirable. But the non-stop immature clowning-around and their cruelly manifested prejudice against their android teammate was so off-putting that I really did not like any of the protagonists. And this dislike kept me from appreciating the books.

Isaac Hooke has created another set of fast-moving adventures for Rade Galaal and his band of companions. These volumes follow on to the Atlas series and generally contain the same characters. The combat suits introduced in Atlas continue to advance in power and capabilities. It's a good thing, too, since the enemies with which they engage are becoming ever more challenging. Recommended for hours of tense enjoyment!

This collection is the best space war opera books that I have read. The elite moth soldiers led by Rade take you on a nonstop action journey through the galaxies fighting to save humanity without losing their sense of humor or their own humanity.

This series was a very enjoyable and almost compulsive read! I found myself continuing to read for several hours past my bed time as I wanted to know how it ended but I wanted to know all the twists and turns the story took to get to the end as well. I found Myself loving the characters Isaac Hook created and found myself able to identify with them on some level because I hoped I would behave the same way in their ever more terrible situations. I think they are great books and I will be reading nore of his books in the future, you can bet on that!

For lovers of science fiction. Rade Galaal and his platoon have to work hard to stay alive while fighting aliens. They are equipped with interesting robot technology to help them beat the odds. Great read!
