History interests me so I liked the portrayal of a governess' !ife. So isolated. I was reminded of Downton Abbey (which also has a servant Daisy). The total meanness toward the new governess never was totally explained to my satisfaction. History buffs will love this book.

A sweet, clean romance filled with hope, second chances and love. Excellent plot that moved along at a steady pace holding the readers attention until the end. The characters were so well developed that you almost felt like they were friends. Lovely optimistic story I can easily recommend!

Stuffy Duke has guilt complex, seems the only one can help is always mis-understood.Bridget mixes Romance, intriguing situation and has you transported back into the 18 Century wondering what will happen next.

This book was beautifully written and it flowed smoothly together. I liked the courage of Georgette when she was protecting the twin girls even from the Duke and how they both overcome their own demands to fine love.

The story was sweet and enjoyable, however I was frustrated with the abundant use of 'rather's and 'quite's. A better editing of the book would have made this a more engaging read. Not a bad book at all and the story was entertaining, but I couldn't give it better than a 3 due to the poor editing.

This is a warm and emotionally charged story. I only wish the author included the main characters thoughts and perceptions after their first encounter. She wrote the Duke's impression of Georgette towards the end of the story "he through her the be beautiful."
She also neglected to conclude Georgette's relationship with Daisy and other servants.

This book was fun and satisfying to read. Not realistic of course . The book was well-mannered and i mean that as a compliment. I was somewhat put off by a certain repetition of phrase. Other than that it was quite delightful.

Once again Ms. Barton has delighted her readers with another heroine to adore in this full length novel filled with exquisite attention to detail, unique story lines, and entertaining characters. As always with Ms. Barton's work, there is some unique trivia to be gleaned for those who like to learn a little more in regards to the time period they enjoy reading about.

Another stellar offering from Bridget Barton! Georgette Darrington, destitute after the death of her father, takes a position as governess for the orphaned nieces of Hamilton Whitehall, Duke of Draycott. The fact that each governess lasted only a couple months speaks volumes. From the moment Georgette arrives, she endures a confrontational staff. The duke has a policy of distancing himself from household problems, leaving her in a very precarious position. And Georgette has her share of discord with the duke over his nieces' speaking Welsh instead of English.
I loved the twins and applauded Georgette for her handling the conflicts to limit their stress. Hamilton was a man in pain; Georgette wisely tried to help without crowding him. Lady Cynthia, Hamilton's aunt, was a strong support for the family. Hamilton's sister's letters were the healing balm he needed; they brought tears to my eyes while he read.
The last chapter portrays a happy, healthy family in expectation of more joy in the near future. You will experience a spectrum of emotions, I promise, with smiles in the end.

This is such a wonderful and delightful book. I loved it.
After the death of her father, Georgette learns that she is now penniless. To survive, she takes a position as a governess. We get to meet two adorable Welsh girls that will melt your heart. They certainly melted Georgette's.
Hamilton had so much pain in his heart after the death of his sister. While he was made guardian of her darling twin daughters, he cannot make room in his heart for them. After losing several governesses, he finally hires Georgette. Thank goodness she refuses to let mean staff and abrooding Duke get the best of her.
Ms. Barton has delivered a book with engaging characters and a well written story. I felt both Georgette and Hamilton's pain. I wanted to scoop the girls up and tell them all would be right. I'm so glad Aunt Cynthia had such an important role in the story. She was a sweetheart.
I truly loved this story and found myself teary eyed as I read the final pages. Overall, the book was fabulous and I highly recommend it.

This book was certainly a clean, sweet surprise. The Governess was young, sweet, smart, and penniless. If she didn't find a job before her late father's house sold she would have nowhere to go. Fortunately for her the employment service has one opening; the last three governesses all left after a short time and the agent recognized it had become a difficult position to fill. It was just what she needed.
The Duke was certainly brooding. He was so filled with anger and guilt he couldn't handle one more problem. It was to the point where new staff (such as governesses) were not allowed to complain about anything the other household staff did, and if they did they were more likely to be fired than have the staff problems fixed.
Then there are the two sweet little girls, twins of about 4 years old, who are caught in the middle. They had seen so many governesses leave that they were afraid to trust a new one because she could be gone any day. The Duke could't even look at them because they looked so much like their mother, and when they talked they had such heavy Welsh accents he couldn't stand to hear it. The governess was supposed to see to it they developed proper English accents or they were not allowed to talk at all. The household staff bullied them and told them they were awful children if they didn't speak "right", and they are terrified of their uncle, the Duke.
Somehow this situation has to be fixed and the new governess, Georgette, is the right woman to do it. If only she can figure out how!
I really enjoyed the story; it was a little bit formulaic but I expected it to be. I don't remember any editing problems, the author really likes describing beautiful skies and landscapes which I didn't think really added to the story. The writing at the beginning of the story seemed to me to be rather simple so I thought maybe this was the author's first book, but it got more interesting as the story progressed. Overall I liked the story very much.

I loved the way everything was so beautifully described, however, I feel at points that some things were given too much detail. I like that nothing was left without adequate description but pages were used up on things that could be summed up. The story line was delightful and kept me reading. I finished the book in less than 2 days.
