I have totally enjoyed this series. I'm currently reading Broadcast 6. Lots of fly by the seat of your pants action. A fair warning, though...there are lots of typos and grammatical errors in these books. And in Broadcast 5, every single time the word "deck" or "control" was used, no matter the context of the use of the words, they were in italics. Great stories, though...just poorly edited.

The action in this volume is the most exciting in the series so far. This one had me late for work and blowing my lunch break. Shorter than I've come to expect though. I think the author has matured quite a bit since starting this saga, though someone needs to spell check the same thing.

In my opinion, this book was unnecessarily long and did little to move the plot or characters forward. Life's hard for these folks...we get it... but constant, nonstop, relentless crisis after crisis is pretty tiresome...not just on the characters, but the readers too. At this point in the series, we probably have some sort of idea where he's going with the story....I wish he'd make more progress in getting us there.

My favourite book of the series is the very first one- Origins. It's really cool, upbeat, there's an optimistic crew, there's experimental technology, and there's cool unusual tactics which save the butts of the crew several times.
I also liked how it seemed to be a bit like Star Trek tecnology-ish, but without many of the ST restrictions. eg- ST just has one layer of defense- energy shields (ok, later ablative armour, but that's hardly mentioned). Here, there's a thick hull, regernative metal, reflective coatings, and not 1, not 2, but 3 types of energy shielding!
However, I must say that the last two volumes have really dragged on. The story has gotten quite convoluted, and it seems quite ridiculous that it talks about how powerful the Triton is- the shields, the armour, the technology. And yet with each engagement large portions of the ship are destroyed, and they have to start repairs over from scratch. Similarly, they describe how powerful the Uriel fighters are. But the pilots just seem to get blown up one after another as if they were paper airplanes. I can't believe any rational person would want to be a pilot. 7 fighters go out, just 2 come back. It's practically suicide being a fighter pilot.
And let's not talk about the characters from the two crews.......
I may or may not buy the last one. It's only 3 bucks and it's the last one (I assume). Hopefully it'll be tidied up in a nice way.

This has been an enjoyable series to read. Just right for summer fare, interesting, exciting, but not too heavy. But Spinward Fringe Broadcast 6: Fragments has disappeared from the Kindle Store! What's up, the store?

This author started out really bad... the only reason i even gave it a chance was because the first book was free and somehow despite the terrible grammar and horrible technology system in the story... the author manages to make a great cast of characters that convinced me to pay for these... now as each book goes he figured out how to spell check... and now he is fixing holes in his plot and getting better at how the technology works... these books are definitely worth reading once you get to book 4+ and books 6 and 7 were some of the best Sci-fi books ive read... If you have read anything like star carrier, forever war, or odyssey one, then you should read these books. A fair warning that the first 2-3 books are not great and book "0" i would maybe give 2 stars... for everything but the main character... but stick with it because the last few books make all the pain worth it... pretty much everything prior to book 3 was just the chores you had to do to get the good stuff which is 4 and up...

Like so many, I started this series because my fiance referred me to it; ie, through word of mouth. He explained that he'd gotten the first book in this series free, but never moved forward with the books that followed. One of his complaints was the fact that the sequel didn't seem to have the characters, to whom he had become attached. He also lamented the lack of editing -- this is a sentiment I DO share, I must admit. The need for an editor is glaringly obvious. The content isn't as much an issue in this context, it's more a matter of grammar. It does bug me, but not enough to quit on Lalonde.
Regardless of this "issue", I kept going (reading) and am happily surprised with Lalonde' s progress as an author. The plotlines thicken, multiple subplots keep the reader engaged, there's just enough romance to keep things fun, and the characters are endearing, funny, complex and engaging. I'm not sure I've ever read a "space opera" before, per se, but I will keep reading this author as long as he keeps spinning forward...

I like this series and this installment.
I disagree with others who have written that it doesn't move the characters forward. I wouldn't spoil it for others, but some characters go through some major changes. There are now a lot of characters, which means less time devoted to each, but that's acceptable. It's mainly about the Captain and the love of his life. Nice ending, regarding that, also.
I did skim over a few parts where characters were thinking back about what went before. Having read all of the previous books over the span of a couple of months, it bogged down the story for me, but I didn't mind and it is probably useful for those who haven't read the others in the series (or who read them a while back).
I hope the story gets back to some of the interesting subplots, in the next book, such as those alien eggs or the mysterious device for communicating with the future.
Overall, it is enjoyable reading.

I have been very pleasantly surprised by this series. This book moved extremely well and I finished it in a couple of nights. There is that special something about the story and characters that really draws one in.
Marring the book, is the relatively poor editing - there are a fair number of typographical errors, incorrect words (like whose instead of who's) and the like. There is also an inexplicable incorrect italicisation of every occurence of particular words throughout the novel which is mildly grating and requires mental effort to look past the non-working emphasis.

Best new Author of Fantasy, SciFi and horror I have read in over a decade. His Spinward Fringe Series is a fantastic Science Fiction series and i have read it three or four times a year since the first book came out. Brightwell was an exciting and engaging Fantasy read and the only downside is he cannot write quicker! Dark Arts is a thrilling Horror novel and i need more of this world!

This is a great series - wonderful storyline, characters; in depth descriptions of life in space and on spaceships - and the story has it all; love, enemies, war, survival, etc. But the incorrect use of personal pronouns is distracting and unfortunate. Read this series anyway though!

If you were planning to just jump into the series, you could pick up Fracture, and start right there without feeling lost. As he beginning of a contained trilogy, Fracture does a decent job summarizing the important parts of the previous books, without filling in all of the details. The characters remain entertaining, realistic (as much as they can be), and believable.
Although not as entrenching at Frontline, the book is definately worth chewing right through. Take your time, and build your way through. There are a tonne of seemingly minor details that show you important information that built the characters to their current standing.
For those not new to the Spinward Fringe series, Fracture may not be anything horribly atom-splitting. It is a wonderful step that re-introduces the series, solidifies the universe, and builds up the approaching conflicts. You'll laugh, you sit on the edge of your seats at parts, and if you're an emotional person, you may even get upset. Definitely another good addition to the series.

Once again, I have nothing but praise for this excellent series and this entry is no different. Action heavy as the previous books but more focused on the captain, exploring his mental and physical state of mind, his effort on fulfilling the crews expectations and providing the crew a home on board the Triton. Fab read once again.

The Spinward Fringe series is a must read for anyone looking for an amazing story with incredible character development. It is a science fiction series for sci-fi fans as well as those who haven't read sci-fi before. The character development and the plot twists keep the story interesting and the ever changing environment is masterfully detailed by mister Lalonde. Do yourself a favor and pick up Spinward Fringe: Origins for free on Kindle and you will be hooked like I was. Origins is also titled Broadcast 0 and Broadcast 7 is right around the corner. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

A friend recommended them and I've bought the whole series so far. I really like the characters and there's some very cool inventions. I'm not sure how good the 'science' is but a very entertaining saga. Worth it.

great read. improves with each installment. i removed a star because of horrible editing. every instance of the words "deck" and "control" were italisized regardless of usage or context. VERY annoying.

There are a few typos but the story is excellent. I have read every book since the first one in this line. There is so much junk out there copying off of old space stories, this is the first original thought in a long time. The characters draw you in. This will probably be made into a TV series, or even a movie in the future if someone wants to make money from the sci-fi hero in space theme. Nice replacement since Battlestar Galatica is done.

I liked this one better than the previous books in the series. I think, because it seemed to have more action, which held my interest better. I found my attention wandering in the previous book, so I hope this one has set a new trend.

I gave this first e stars because the entire series deserves it. However...
Wtf is up with that ending? It was so abrupt!
I thought it was just the end of a chapter!
Randolph lalonde, you tricky bastard! Now I HAVE to read the next book! Dont you think for one second I didn't see what you did there.
