The Pearls of Lutra is definitely the best Redwall novel that I have read so far. I have always enjoyed trying to figure out the riddles and puzzles as I read the books. That is one of the many elements that, along with the wonderful characters and descriptions, make this book a winner! I really enjoyed the new characters, especially Clecky, Tansy, and Arven (the little maggit!). I would definitely reccomend this book for people who like exciting adventures. I can't wait for LONG PATROL!!!!! :-)

In the 9th book in the beloved Redwall series, we find the good creatures of Redwall Abbey threatened by the corsair and lizard army come from the Isle of Sampetra and Emperor Ublaz to claim the fabeled Pearls of Lutra. As the plot progresses, we find Martin, son of Mattithias the warrior, on a quest to save Abbot Durral from the corsairs. We also find young Tansy the hedgehog directing a dedicated team of Abbeybeasts in trying to crack a riddle left by Old Crickulus with the reward being the 7 Pearls of Lutra.

I'm currently reading this book and there is 1 thing I can say about it... it rules. Brian Jacques did a great job making new characters. I like the character Rasconza, I wonder if he dies? I haven't gotten to the part where they burn down Saint Ninian's but I cannot wait till I do.

This wasn't my first Redwall book, but it was my favorite. The songs, riddles and poems are fantastic. There's action, adventures, puzzles, and a little bit everything else. Who would think that a young hogmaid would help solve the riddle of a lifetime? Everyone plays a part in this book, there's no wasted characters. I couldn't put it down. Brian Jacques can be proud of this one. I give it a Five-star Review!

I have read all of the Redwall books and enjoyed all of them but this one is up on a pedistal, right next to Martin the Waorrior. With the riddles and story of revenge this book is enthralling. I highly recomend this book as one who is rather a Redwall expert. I have read this book 13 times and it never gets old.

This book is my favorite Redwall book, with Tansy the hedgehog's heroric quest to find the pearls, and tales of destruction of one who helped her. Everything was carefully planned and made the entire book wonderful!

This is a very good book. The plot is very intriguing and always keeps you hooked. It's hard to put down once you start it. Even if you haven't read any other Redwall books, this one is easy to understand and fun to read. Brian Jacques has given us a new character, The Emperor. You wouldn't believe how crazy the Emperor is! I recommend this book for ages 8 and up.

I've read all of the Redwall books except #14, and Pearls of Lutra is one of my favorites. On the Island of Sampetra, the Emperor mad eyes rules. He is trying to find the Tears of all Oceans, which are hidden within Redwall Abbey. Each chapter is filled with suspense as 4 different armies try to annialate each other.

PEARLS OF LUTRA IS A VERY COOL BOOK. I GIVE IT 5 STARS BECAUSE OF ITS AMOUNT OF ACTION AND MYSTERY. IN THIS BOOK GRATH LONGFLETHCH'S ENTIRE FAMILY IS KILLED BY CORSAIRS AND SEA RATS. SHE GOES OUT FOR REVENGE AND MEETS MARTIN THE REDWALL WARRIOR. THEY GO ON A QUEST WHILE TANSY IS FIGURING THE MYSTERY OF THE LUTRA PEARLS. OVER ALL THIS IS A GREAT BOOK THAT I THINK THAT EVERY ONE SHOULD READ.

I am disappointed beyond belief! In Pearls of Lutra, the book I had chosen based on its cover since there was no description detectable, is about the Six Pearls of all Oceans. These pearls are wanted by the devious Emperor of Sampetra, an evil red-eyed stoat that answers to the name of Ublaz, that only wants them for a simple decoration of his crown. To desist his amoral plans, the warriormouse of Red Wall, which is a quaint building found East of Sampetra where young creatures live and are educated, has taken a journey along with fellow creatures to destroy Ublaz. This is pretty much what the story is about, and does have its positive and negative sides. Below, I shall share my personal feelings about this book with you, and if you disapprove of it, I am sorry I did not look at this book from all angles. In this story, all the characters are animals that have the ability to communicate to each other in the English language and make their own armory! Very beyond belief! It is not believable that animals can really do these tasks. It also contains animals acting like pirates that indeed build ships by themselves, wear clothes, and battle! How many animals do you know that wear clothing by their own will (which the characters also do), build ships, make weapons, fight with swords, and speak English? NONE!!! On the other hand, even though not realistic, the idea of animals as characters is very smart and creative. Also the technique of having certain animals with certain attitudes and characteristics is very clever along with how they all seem to get along with certain species of animals. I think I have made my point. Another thing about this book is that it is unbelievably slow. You have pages and pages of descriptive or unimportant information that doesn't relate to the book or the plot in any way. In one scene, the characters are baking a cake to give to the landowner, which is also irrelevant. The cake or the baking of it has no reference to the book. I have read the chapter over and over again, so I know that there is no symbolism either. There are many scenes that are right to the point. If all the non-related events were removed from the book, it would only be about 96 pages long out of the 351 pages of the book. I have recently been informed that the lengthy descriptions are for the blind so they have a great understanding of the story. These descriptions in the book are absolutely exquisite and give an excellent visual illustration. My last view of this book is the location. Now come on! Does anyone actually prefer a book with an imaginary land with talking animals with the same abilities as a human being? If someone does, they need to get their head out of Never-Never Land and grow up! Sure, it's okay for anyone of any age to still imagine of a beautiful place of adventure, but this story is a little over the top, in my opinion of course! Also, this mythical place has some awkward names. Not that I am making fun of them, but who ever thought of naming their piece of land Sampetra, or Holt Lutra? I t is like calling all males by the name of Bob, and all the girls by Mary Lou. I also believe that the map in the front of the book is a little much. If younger people read this book and see that map, they may actually think this place actually exists, because no one knows of maps of imaginary places, only real ones. In my opinion, the book, Pearls of Lutra, truly is a waste of good paper. The book has no real meaning, and is not realistic in any way (I dislike anything that is too fictional for my personal taste). In other words, if you prefer stories that are fictional, descriptive, or creative, this is a book that I think you will greatly enjoy. If you do not like those types of books, I recommend a good mystery book, or something more to the point. I hope that this has been a good reference to you, and if there are any arguments, I would like to hear them.

A riveting story about animals that are astonishing human-like. If you enjoyed the other books of the Redwall series, be sure that this book is in your bookcase. If the next books are as page-turning as this one is, Brian Jacques is sure to have a few classical book under his belt.

Pearls of Lutra is my favorite of all the Redwall books out so far. Brian Jacques never seems to amaze me with his vivid imagination for names and scenarios. Next to Ferahgo the Assassin in Salamandastron, Ublaz is probably the best villian Jacques has devised. I love this book!

I encourage anyone who enjoys the Redwall series and has not read the Pearls of Lutra to get their hands on this book as soon as possible. You won't be able to put it. I believe this is the best Redwall book of the ones I have read.

It was a fairly good book. I have read many of the Redwall series, and although this was good, it was lacking a bit. I recommend a few of the other Redwall series books instead, but it was enjoyable.

It was the first book I'd read by Brian Jacques and it made me want to read the rest. It had an exciting climax that makes one want it to go on. I would suggest it for any fantasy lover. Definitely a five star book.

What makes Pearls of Lutra so great are the riddles. This really gets your mind going, and is remarkably funny as well! It's a story of courage and friendship like all the other Redwall books. My favorite!
