I love history. My wife loves history. Our daughter -- not so much. So to get her to learn, we have to make it fun. The Dear America series is a great way to do just that.

The book is written as a young girl's journal, and is so realistic that a disclaimer has to be included to remind the reader that the book is,k in fact, a work of fiction. My daughter enjoyed the story because of the story, and ended up learning things along the way.

This isn't the first Dear America book we've given her to read, and it certainly won't be the last one.

Margaret Ann Brady is an orphan with a brother,William. William took her to the girl's orphanage and he went to find some work. While she is in the orphanage William finds a job as a soldier and he invites her to come to the Americas to where he is. She meets Mrs. Carstairs who wants a companion for a voyage she was going on which was also the Americas. Mrs. Carstairs gets Margaret "proper" clothing and all the things Margaret would need for the trip. Margaret and Mrs. Carstairs go to the America's on the great Titanic. While on the Titanic Margaret finds that she likes the cabin steward, Robert. One day, Robert comes in saying that she needs to put on her life-vest saying it was just a drill. Outside they see that they crashed into an iceberg. Mrs. Carstairs is put on a lifeboat and she was to go with her when she decides to find Robert and go with him together when he just tells her to go on because if she didn't go know she would never go. She goes on a lifeboat and is safely on the boat that came to help them. She finds out that Robert didn't make it but Mrs. Carstairs did. She meets William and goes on with her life. Later she marries Stanley Ryan.
This was a really good book and I liked it because along with history about an important event in our history it is also a fiction book at the same time. This book is also a kind of a love story too.The whole story is in a diary form which then makes the reader see the events as if they were actually seeing it as they read along. These kinds of books are really descriptive. All in all, this was a great book because it has an important event, it is fiction, it is in diary form, and is a little bit of a love story.
I liked the whole book but my favorite part in this book was when Margaret got a whole new wardrobe. This is my favorite part because she sees so many clothes with so many different colors and the best thing is that all of the clothes are hers. Of course, she doesn't like it that Mrs. Carstairs is spending so much money on her. Later on though she loses all the clothes when the Titanic sinks with her trunk with the ship.

An excellent book Margaret lives in an orphan in London while waiting to save up enough money for a ticket to America where her brother William in Boston. Margaret gets a chance to when Mrs. Carstairs wants a complain to accompany her to America aboard Titanic. Having never had money Margaret's impressions on the ship, people and Mrs. Carstairs are very intersting. She meets Robert a Steward on her floor whom she likes. Margaret was very brave during the sinking and I liked how she first decided not to get on one of the lifeboats. I was saddened though at Robert's death. It was a very good story.

'Voyage on the Great Titanic: The Diary of Margaret Ann Brady' by Ellen Emerson White is a part of the Dear America collection for children/young adults. The books are written as though you are reading the main character's diary, and started being published widely after the American Girls series got very popular. I got this one at a book fair in middle school, and I still enjoyed reading it as an adult. ...

I read this as a child when modern-day fascination of the Titanic was high because of the 1997 movie but I loved then and I love it now. It's about a 12 year old working class girl who is a first class passenger on the Titanic. She writes about the ship itself and the people she meets, and includes her reflection on its sinking. Young readers might find this book sad for the loss of life that occurs but it's written in a very age appropriate way for 9-12 year olds. One of my favorites of the Dear America collection.

Voyage on the Great Titanic, by Ellen Emerson White, is about a 13-year-old girl named Margaret.Living in an orphanage in England at the time, with the only realatives known to her being her brother William in America, Margaret graciously accepts passage to America as a companion to Mrs. Evelyn Carstairs. It is interesting to see the voyage through the eyes of a working-class girl, who by a stroke of luck, finds herself traveling in first-class. This book describes the wonders and horrors of a passanger upon the ill-fated ship Titanic. I enjoyed this book and hope others who read it will, too.

Wow! The Diary of Margaret Ann Brady is great! The book is about an 11 year old girl named Margaret that travels on the Titanic. This book reminds me of the book "White Star" because they are both about the Titanic. This book made me feel anxious to see what was going to happen to Margaret. I liked that this book was based on true events and had real facts about the Titanic. People who read this book will be on the edge of their seats!

An orphaned girl named Margaret Anne Brady, is on the Titanic, as a companion to a rich lady, Mrs. Carstairs. She agreed to this because her brother William lives in America and she would love to finally live with him. But when disaster struck, Margaret decided not to get on a lifeboat, and then she changed her mind. It was very late and there was only one more lifeboat left. Margie boarded it and survived. Then the Carpathia picked her lifeboat up and in New York, she reunited with William. How was the Titanic before the disaster to Margaret? Read and find out!

When I first started on "Voyage on the Great Titanic" I thought the book would be a little boring, but I was quite wrong. The book is about an orphan girl who gets chosen to go with a rich woman on the Titanic. Her brother was in America, so she was quite happy to go on the voyage. My favorite part of the book was when the Titanic started to sink. It was so exciting and elegant with the description the girl gave in her diary. In the end, I did like it. I liked it because it was exciting, although very sad. I wouldn't change a thing about the ending.

This specific book was not as impressive--or as historically significant--as some of the others, though. Others have noted the obnoxious inconsistencies, and in general I just wonder, do we really need another dramatization of this particular shipwreck? There are so many more historically significant events that could be explored through this very fruitful style of didactic YA fiction. For instance--the Triangle Shirtwaist fire!

this book is amazingly well detailed i love it. This book is about 13 year old Margret Brady who gets put in the orphanage when her parents die and her brother goes to America wall Margret stays behind in London,England. Then Margret gets chosen to acompany Mrs.Cairstairs to America on the Titanic. Then on the Titanic Margret meets a cabin stewart named Robert who she become's shortly in love with. Then on April 15,1912 Robert comes running down the hall waking people and telling them to grab something warm and life belt then Margret gets up to the boat deck and and makes sure Mrs.Carstairs gets on a boat then goes to look for Robert who is sitting against the wall looking at nothing and margret gets Robert to come up to the boat deck then robert gives Margret a letter to give to his mom in case he didn't get to and then he asked margret to get in the lifeboats but the rest i'm not going to say.
(sorry about puncuation when im typing i just keep going)
i think the book is slow in the begining the when she and Mrs.Carstairs get on the titanic it goes by so quick i just love the book so much it is realy well detailed and i would recomend it

Thirteen year-old Margaret Ann Brady; a working-class girl, finds herself aboard the 'Titanic' in first class. She describes in vivid detail her sorroundings, her voyage, and the sinking. Only her love for Robert, a steward, keeps her from entering a lifeboat at first. Later, the gallant Mr. Prescott escorts her to a boat, and she is saved. Margaret deeply regrets surviving, and can never forgive herself for doing so. This book will bring tears to your eyes, and in some parts, a smile to your lips.

Voyage on the Great Titanic: The diary of Margaret Ann Brady is a MUST READ BOOK!!! It is about Margaret a young girl who ends up going on a trip on the great Titanic. It tells about how so many friends she had made on board ended up dying. It is one of my favorite Dear America books because I have always been interested in the Titanic and it really tells you how people felt and how sad it was. I think anyone who likes to read about the Titanic should read this book.

i thought that the diary of Margret Anne Brady was touching romantic and very real. the auther did a good job reshearching and making it as real as possibal and also did a good job putting a dash of romance into the story. sometimes i felt that i was there. it was easy for me to imagion what her clothes looked liked and such. it was extremly touching and i belive that the auther did extremly well putting this book together and making it as real as ever.

The story Voyage on the Great Titanic includes several interesting events. First, Rose goes to Mrs. Carstairs to ask her if she could bring her to America to see where her father was. Then, Mrs. Carstairs said yes and they get on the Titanic, where Rose meets Jack. Second, while, they are having fun the Titanic hits an ice burg. Only half the people were able to get on the lifeboats, before the Titanic sank. My writing makes this the book sound boring, so I recommend you read this book and fin out the adventure on yourself.

This book really brings history to life, whether you are 10 years old or 100. The character of Margaret, the 13-year-old whose voyage on the Titanic goes from dream-come-true to nightmare, is so realistic that, within a few pages, she comes to life within the pages. The details, the historical notes in the back, Margaret's little wisecracks - it's like being there. I have to get my mom a copy!

Voyage of the Great Titanic: The Diary of Margaret Ann Brady is the diary of a poor, orphaned girl who receives a chance of feeling like the wealthy and sailing on the maiden voyage of the most grandest and luxurious ship ever...
This diary was so compelling and engrossing and I read it in a day. It was so vivid and detailed as a diary can be, and I cringe at the similarities at this and the factual happening. A most entertaining read.

A wonderful little book that is a historical fiction piece for young ladies. While the main character is a girl, boys may find the sub-heroes a bit fun as well. Destined to be something greater, the main character sets sail on the famed Titanic. You've heard the stories, now experience it from a passenger's point of view who never gave up on her dreams.

Margaret is going on the Titanic with a companion. She doesn't have a mother or father. The only person she has in the world is her brother. Along the way, she meets some very special friends, one of whom doesn't make it off the boat. I suggest this book to anyone who like the Titanic movie or anyone who likes to read about the Titanic. Unlike Rose on the movie Titanic, Margaret was a real person. She died in 1994.

This particular book told me about what life was like on the Great Titanic. It showed me how all of the unsuspecting people's lives were about to go from time on a joyous ship ride, to a deadly struggle for survival. It expressed much feeling of emotion. From fear, to happiness, to passion. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I recommend it to everyone who would be willing to read it.

A very good Juvenile book. English vernacular made it sometimes hard to understand the dialect. Character development good. Problem was it took too long to get to why anyone would read this- the actual disaster. Then once there, it was written about briefly and then the book was over. In other words, the build up to the climax was too long. 2 Stars out of 5.

"You will need to hurry." Those are the words that made Margret realize this was not "Just a drill" . The Titanic was going down.
Any pre-teen girl into adventure would love this book. I was able to relate to Margret through he whole book, I laughed with her, cried with her, and was terrified with her. If you have read, and liked any Dear America books, read this next.

Margaret Ann Brady is a great character. Always hoping for the best, she lives in an orphanange with Sister Catherine. Then, Maragaret has an offer from a vey rich woman, Mrs. Carstairs, to take the trip of her life on Titanic. She can't believe she's gonig to be able to go to America, and be able to live with her brother, WIlliam, who she lost when he convinced her to go to the orphange. But, it all ends in a deep tragedy, though she survives, she is deeply tramitized. She meets on the Titanic asweet boy named Robert. On the night of the sinking, he comes in to give her a life jacket for a drill. Magaret was scared, but Robert seemed calm enough, so she trusted him. She didn't see him at all again. I think this book was awesome, because the Titanic was always an interesting subject to me, and to be put in such descriptve words made it even more enjoyable. Not to mention it had tons of information on the Titanic in the back of the book. I recommend this book to anyone that has a fasination with the Titanic and great literatature.

A wonderfully written book! This account, although it contains some fictional characters, is historically accurate. A young girl living in an orphanage is chosen to accompany a rich passenger on the maiden voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic. The book is written in diary form, allowing one a very personal glimpse into the mind of a young teen and her feelings about the ship. The books deals with the different social classes aboard the ship, as well as the bravery of those who knew they were doomed to die. Quality, book, quality story, very believable and historically accurate.

The Voyage on the Great Titanic is a facinating, well-put book. Filled to the brim with historical information, it is a bit hard to read, but the story flows smoothly. It is a good sourse for historical information, and also includes it's deserving hints of humor. I thought this book is very deserving of four stars, and very nicely written.

Everyone called the Titanic the ship of dreams, and for Margaret Anne Brady, it was a dream. She would be traveling with a lady from London England to find her brother, whom she hasn't seen since her parents died a few years back. Margaret was leaving her friends which was her family to come to America on the Titanic. She loved it. It was everything she dreamed off until that dreadful day the Titanic sank. If I was her I would have never made it through the night of freezing cold weather with only a over coat. She had no family just Mrs. Carstairs who she was traveling with. I don't know how anyone could have gone through that. It truly would have been a nightmare.

This book is filled with adventure, hope, piverty, and love. It is a must read for all girls. This story thought me to be thankful for what i have and to try to help others discover that also. Even though this book is historical fiction it seems as if Margaret Ann was really abord on the Titanic. In the end of this book I myself cried, and realized that not so many people were lucky to survive. Many people thought that they would die, but luckily survived. Many people thought that they would survive, but then died. his is most definutly a page turning book from cover to cover. And please don't throw it away in the beging...because i thought that it would be a boring book because of the begingin. But in the middle and end...it was full of adventure!

I just finished reading this book about 2 hours ago and just had to write a review. I recieved this book for Christmas and haven't put it down since. It was really captivating and I was disappointed when it was all over. I loved Margaret's humor. Definetly one of the best Dear America books!

This book was interesting in its own way because it showed how a poor girl got a stroke of luck and got to travel with a rich lady on the grand Titanic. I really thought the author wrote this book really well and I have to say the storyline with Robbie was great! A must-read!

When I read this book, I practically laughed out loud at how, well, OUTGOING she was. But she was also very touching and somehow this book reminded me of a great-grandmother who was also on board the Titanic. Don't fret. She lived.

I really got into the Dear America series and this book was my first book in trying to collect them. and I'm sure glad I picked this one as my first. it was a wonderful book full of detail and plot. the beginning was kinda hard but once I got through it it was really good. Another book that I recomend is the story of the Oregan Trail. That book was soooo good I finshed it in two days! Along with the Titanic one. if you are a Dear America fan and would like books on them I suggest you start with either the Titanic one or the Oregan Trail.

Finially, a book telling the story of the Titanic from a woman's prospective! Not only that, it tells the story very clearly and in the girl's words, since it is her diary. You don't get the narrartor saying "She thought the food was great", the character actually tells you that herself. This is a wondeful book, I recommend it to anyone who likes a good history-based novel.

I read this book. I really thought it was thrilling. ... [I] thought the book itself was exciting. I would recomend this to anyone interested in Titanic. The Diary starts on March 28, 1912 and ends on April 20, 1912. When i was done reading the last page, i said wow, because it was like reading a documentery.

This book was completely miraculous! One of the reveiws I read was completely wrong. It is very possible for an orphan to be traveling in first class as a companion for an elderly rich lady traveling by herself. The sweet love connection between Robert and Margaret made me cry and I wish it would have turned out differently. The ending was sad as they met in the corridor, when they..... oops! Almost slipped!
