Bad at Love was absolutely amazing and one of my TOP FAVORITE reads of 2017! Karina Halle never ceases to blow me away with her talent, and every novel she writes gets better and better than the last. I truly loved her writing style and the storyline and characters she created in Bad at Love. It was incredibly unique and intriguing, and I was completely hooked from page one. I absolutely loved this book and can't wait to read what Ms. Halle releases next!

Laz and Marina were awesome and I immediately fell in love with them and their story. They sucked me in from the very beginning and didn't let me go until the last word, and I loved every single minute of it. I loved their personalities and strong chemistry and connection together, and I loved how their friendship/relationship progressed throughout. I loved reading the story from both Laz and Marina's POV, and I thoroughly enjoyed their banter and interactions with each other. I was truly captivated by everything from start to finish, and I honestly couldn't have been happier with the conclusion to Laz and Marina's story. It was one of my top favorite romances from Karina Halle so far, and it won't be one I forget anytime soon. It was amazing and I highly recommend it!

Bad at Love was another extraordinary standalone contemporary romance and one of my TOP FAVORITE reads of the year! Karina Halle truly outdid herself with this book and it was one of my favorite novels from her so far, as well as one of the best friends-to-lovers romances that I've ever read. Bad at Love was incredibly unique and engaging, and I was more than ecstatic with the outcome to Laz and Marina's story. It was perfect for them and made me extremely happy. Karina Halle is by far one of my top favorite contemporary romance authors, and I have honestly loved every single book that I've read from her. She is beyond talented and I am so excited to devour more of her amazing stories in the future!

Karina Halle slays her romance novels unlike any other! Bad at Love is a deliciously-addictive friends to lovers romance... I swooned, laughed, I even felt all the emotions and the slow burn Laz and Marina had for each other.

I always find myself compelety invested in Karina Halle books and this one like the rest of her books - had me SO consumed! I loved the epiloque the beginning, the middle and even more I LOVED the end! Oh how I love the Poet and the Beekeeper! This book is everything to me.. it's SO relatable and the real honesty is absoultely beautiful!

Laz and Marina are best friends and both are so bad at love..Marina can't make it passed the 3rd date with a guy and Laz can't seem to keep a girlfriend for very long. So, Laz comes up with a propostion.. date each other and help each other to find the flaws in their dating/relationships and learn how to make them last!

Marina and Laz have a very strict set of rules, well Marina does anyways but have the chemistry and secrets are exposed in time and all the rules are completely set aside!!! The heat and anst between them delicious to read...

"If you don't invest your heart in someone, you don't get hurt."

This book is full of laughter, heart, heat and all the feels... You will end up wanting them to fight their personal demons (both have had their hearts broken for similiar but different reasons) and find the love they both are searching for in each other! Karina Halle has never disappointed me with the romance books! I always end up swooning and falling so in love with all the words she writes!!! Shes my go to romance author

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND ALL THINGS KARINA HALLE!

4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bad At Love is an amazing friends to lovers story that will work it’s way into your heart and not let go. Karina Halle weaves an awesome story about Marina and Laz who have always been attracted to each other but have just been friends for years. Not only are they faced with their feelings but they are also faced with challenges in their lives that could change everything. This is a definite must read!! Watch and these two “weirdos” find each other.

Marina met Laz years ago at her friend Jane’s concert, where he ended up being the lead singer and jane’s stepbrother. Even though she was attracted to him, she figured they would be better as friends. Now 4 years later and he is her best friend and maybe the only person that understands her. When she keeps failing at her relationships Laz has an idea that might change things for both of them.

Laz has only been in relationships but they only last a few months. And when he talks to Marina about everything she lets him know about her disasters. Laz comes up with an idea that they pretend to date each other and help one another out so that they stop continuing to fail. What he wasn’t ready for was the feelings that begin to surface while they are “fake” dating.

Soon they both decide that they want to try to actually date. As things begin to progress, Marina knows that she feels more for Laz than just friendship. Will her declaration of her feelings be the push that Laz needs? Or will past insecurities come back and change what he knows and wants?

5 Stars!!! Absolutely adored this book and the characters! Laz and Marina are TERRIBLE at love. Laz is a serial monogamist, and Marina can’t get past a third date. The two have been friends for years, and they think it will be a great idea to date one another. They decide to go on dates, pretending to be different people, judging each other and finding out what each is doing wrong. Yeah, this isn’t going to get complicated in the least. From the prologue, I already knew there was a connection and an attraction between them, so I knew once they crossed that line, things would never be the same.

Marina was an amazing character, one of my favorite heroines. She is loyal and nurturing, taking care of everyone else. She’s beautiful even if she doesn’t realize it, and as Laz says, she is an “odd duck,” just like him. And, she’s a beekeeper!!!!! All these things combined endeared her to me. I wanted to be Marina’s friend.

Laz is drop dead gorgeous, but it’s his other qualities that make him stand out. He is a poet, and in a band. The man reads Keats for God’s sake! He also has a killer sense of humor. Plus, he is an “odd duck” like Marina is.

I totally loved these two together, and the book was extremely well-written. Not only is it a romance, but there is also a secondary plot involving Laz’s mother, and Halle weaves it seamlessly into the storyline. One of my favorite friends-to-lovers romances but also an important story of family and friendship!

Marina and Laz stole my heart from the prologue and I couldn’t get enough of their beautiful friends-to-lovers story. I’m a complete sucker for a good, best friends fall for each other story. That’s how I found my “weirdo flower” after all.

I couldn’t get enough of this book. I used every excuse in the book to find time to read even just a few paragraphs. The journey this book took my heart on was so much fun. I was laughing and giggling at some of the goofy moments, then I was swooning over Laz and the sometimes awkward flirtiness between him and Marina, and then before I knew it my heart was breaking. The emotions in this story are so real and tangible that I was turning the pages as fast as I could to see what happened next.

Marina is such a quirky character! I related to her right away. An added bonus to her character was her career as a beekeeper. It was unconventional in the best way. It enhanced her quirkiness and helped give unique facts sprinkled throughout the story. Laz was swoony and heartbroken with some common, and also some unique, family issues. These added details are something Halle does best. She makes it easy to connect with the characters and to feel emotionally invested in their journey. I was rooting for them from the minute they met!

Karina Halle is one of my top one-click authors. Her writing never ceases to amaze me and she is a powerful force in any genre she chooses to write. You need to read this book, as well as many of her other works!

I do love Karina Halle’s writing - it’s flawless in my opinion. All of her stories have such heart and depth to them and I am drawn to her characters like no other. Each book I read of Ms. Halle’s continues to get better and better.
‘Bad at Love’ was absolutely amazing and once again blew me out of the water.

‘Bad at Love’ by Karina Halle is the friends-to-lovers standalone. Filled with everything you’ve come to expect from a Karina Halle romance - humour, great dialogue, and some fabulous steam.

This is Marina and Laz’s unusual story. Marina a funny, smart and quirky beekeeper meets Laz, a sexy brooding British rocker at a club Laz has a gig at. Their chemistry from the beginning is undeniable but she is warned that he is a serial dater and as Marina has never really had a real boyfriend; what ensues is Marina and Laz grapple with the complexities that go on in a relationship even thought both have never really been in love before.

Each book I read of Halle’s continues to get better. ‘Bad at Love’ was amazing - emotional, great characters overall was just beautifully written. This is one story you do not want to miss.

This author has put out about a million books this year and I honestly don't know how she does it, because they're all just consistently good quality. Bad at Love is especially good, with strongly developed characters, hilarious side characters, and great chemistry between the leads. I was smiling through most of this book.

The one thing about this book I didn't like was Marina being a virgin, for a couple of reasons. For one, it's just not believable that a beautiful twenty-nine year old in LA, someone who has been to college and has a healthy social life, would be a virgin. This felt more like pandering to the female virgin fetish that's in so many romances nowadays, something I'm really getting tired of. What made this even worse was Laz's awed reaction to it ("I wrongly assumed you were like every other woman" etc.). Putting sexually active women down and acting like virgins are so pure and holy is NOT something I expected from this author. This part of the book was disappointing, but I loved the rest of it so I would definitely recommend.

Best friends to lovers.
A serial monogamist rocker poet male.
A quirky bee-keeping California girl.
They are both bad at love.

They pretend to date to help each other out, and well... you’ll have to read to find out. I really enjoyed Laz and Marina’s story. I loved that their friendship does feel sweet and natural, before it turns into a relationship. This romance truly feels unexpected even though it’s absolutely expected as the reader. Halle does a fantastic job giving both Marina and Laz a back story that feels relatable, ties them together, and also reasonably explains why they are so “bad at love.”

All in all, this is a great contemporary read. I loved the quirky main characters. I loved their friendship, their fake relationship, their relationship, the side characters in this story. It’s just a great read all in all. If you’re looking for a friends to lovers that feels unique because the characters feel so fresh, then look no further!

This was such a cute and sexy contemporary romance
A friends to lovers theme where both characters knew they had relationship hang ups and managed to find a way to help the other out!!!
Both Laz and Marina were adorable!!
Marina was this quirky tooth achingly sweet Bee Loving gal... that couldn't get further than the 3rd date somehow managing to sabotage things for herself
& Laz was this Broody, Poet - Musician - Writer... Sexy, Talented and was always faithful when in a relationship.. They just didn't last very long!
After so many failed relationships between the both of them something has to give and what are friends for? The Chemistry just couldn't be contained any longer and these two were perfect for each other!!
Although they both had some issues to sort out through out the book it was a light fun read..
With tons of fun Honey Bee facts, Honey Bee jokes and laugh out load moments this read had me reading this book in one sitting!

I like Ms. Halle's books. Unfortunately, she does have a template. Typically, the characters have sex around 50% of the way through and break up around 70%. They get back together around 85 to 90%. Most pf the times, they end with a proposal or a wedding. The first 20% of her books frequently give more background story or more conversations with supporting characters than necesary. It is nice that her books are longer than most romances but they all could be cut down around 10 to 15%. This one definitively follows her template. You know what your are going to get but it's still a sweet ride.
I really like Marina and Lazarus and even the bees. I didn't really like the the supporting characters, with the exception of Noah, Laz's 14 year old step brother. Well, I also liked Marina's landlord/roommate. Her interaction with Laz towards the end was great.
In all of her books, she refers to college as university. I understand that use for her European characters but even her American characters say "I went to university. " She never puts the in front of the word university as we do in the US.
One last complaint, she uses I as an object instead of me. This is a personal pet peeve and I can't believe her editor doesn't catch it.

This is a really cute book told in alternating pov's available through Kindle Unlimited. The writing is good. Lazarus and Marina meet and are instantly attracted to each other however he is her friend Janes stepbrother and off limits. He is the lead singer in a band called Magic 8 Ball and also has a girlfriend. He is a serial dater, she is a beekeeper and 29 year old virgin who can't find love or a lasting relationship. 4 years later after becoming best friends they decide to date each other to see what their problems are. Naturally they fall for each other and get their HEA without to much drama. Cute lite read all though the beekeeping stuff was a little boring.

I enjoyed reading this book. I actually really like both main characters, which isn't always the case. Both Laz and Marina were unique in their own ways and it was fun and sometimes heartbreaking to see their relationship evolve from friends to more than that. Couldn't put it down!

Update: I am reading this book for the second time and I love Laz and Marina even more than I did last time. Marina's awkwardness is adorable and the way Laz loves her for that is just so nice to see. So many romance novels have to have an alpha male, but Laz is more than that. He is sensitive and caring, but can also be a strong man when he needs to be.

I think I found my new favorite Karina Halle book, at least in this genre.

This is such a good book and I love the title!

I loved Marina and her quirky personality. Laz is one of my favorites, can I keep him?

This book started out lighthearted, a cute quirky friends to lovers. But it turned into so much more. Laz and Marina are bad at love and relationships. Laz is a serial monogamist and is always in and out of relationships. While Marina can't make it past the 3rd date. So why not fake date to figure out what they are doing wrong.

We all know how friends to lovers go and I swear they are some of my favorite types of books to read. But this one had some deeper things going on and made me tear up a few times. I almost wish I could unread it so I could read it all over again for the first time.

You will not bee-lieve how much I loved this one. If you like a good friends to lovers with chemistry through the roof, then look no further.

Marina is a quirky, filterless beekeeper who can't ever make it past the third date. She's nearly 30 with her V-card still tucked neatly in her pants pocket. She met Lazarus several years ago at his band performance and is good friends with Laz's sister. Laz is a serial dater who doesn't do commitment, but he and Marina have become the best of friends. After Marina's most recent disaster of a date, which may have included endless babble about bees, choking and a waggle dance, she and Laz decide to fictionally date each other to figure out what's wrong with them. Of course the writing was on the wall that this little experiment was NEVER going to work! All those feelings and sexual tension certainly got in the way. I enjoyed the side stories of Marina and Laz's families. I loved Scooby's insightfulness and fun character. I loved Marina's big heart and need to be loved, giving Lazarus everything she had.

3.5 Honey Bees ? I actually finished this book yesterday but I was struggling with my review. I loved the characters in Bad at Love (yes some things about them where way way out there) and the storyline was original as well as easy to fall into. For me Bad at Love had all the ingredients that makes me fall in love with a book. And..... this is the part that I have struggled with literally and figuratively ( yes I unfortunately struggled to keep reading) you know every book has some sort of major drama and most the time it just happens for me I was just waiting on it in this book and took almost all the way in and in my head I built it way up and it was anticlimactic in my opinion I just honestly felt like the story was a little dragged out and usually when I’m not in love with a book it’s no biggie yeah I am upset but this one I am a little bit more disappointed by because the writing is so good and like I said I really loved the characters and storyline

Lazarus and Marina are the cutest. I had the best time getting to know them and reading their story. They’re raw and real and a bit weird, but aren’t we all?

I also appreciate the author’s incredible talent. She was able to tell a story that was romantic without being exasperatingly gaudy, like so many books I’ve read lately. Given the cheesy-ness of the protagonists, it could have easily been so. I can definitely appreciate an author’s ability to spell correctly, as well as amazing storytelling ability. I hope to read more from this author.

Bad at Love was such an ENTHRALLING friends to lovers story. And a FAVORITE one at that!!! There were many touching moments and flat out laughing ones. I literally COULD NOT GET ENOUGH OF THIS BOOK. With the perfectly imperfect characters who just needed their flower. I'm NEVER going to look at a bee without thinking of Laz and Marina. I've also NEVER learned so much about bees before. If you want a FEEL GOOD book that will leave you with a smile on your face and a good mood for DAYS then read Bad at Love.

I truly love Halle's writing style, her books are so easy to get lost in, and this one was no exception. I felt as if I had known Laz and Marina for a long time. This was a light, fun, and sweet read with just the right touch of emotional drama. The story moves quickly, because you're going to enjoy it and want to read faster so that you won't have to stop.

While this was a fantastic story, I did feel like there was some predicability to the story. I love a good friends to lovers story, and Bad at Love was a sweet enough story to fall in love with fast. It's a story that I will likely remember but may not feel the need to reread.

For me Karina Halle has the midas touch- any story line she touches she weaves into pure fiction gold. Be it workplace, friends to lovers, even drug cartels- she has this ability to tell a story that has you hoked from the first page.

Lately though she appears to have moved away from the edgy side of fiction and more into a contemporary romance writer- and as that's my favourite genre I couldn't be happier- knowing that we're going to get much more where this came from makes me excited!

Bad at love- gives you exactly what is in the title- 2 friends who are bad at love- Marina- who can't get past the 3rd date due to her own awkwardness and weirdness and Laz who is good at the dating side- but a total monogamous serial dater who just can't seem to stay in a relationship for long.

These 2 friends date to see what they can teach each other- but pretty soon the lines get blurry with sweet, sad, and funny results.

What really got me with this book was the outside story lines- Karina tackles recent issues with families and young teens- with Marinas Dad and his alcoholism and Laz's step brother with his confusion regarding his sexuality- and they're all well handled. Although quite prominent stories- they don't take the focus away from the couple and their story.

I'm really really hoping this becomes a series of books as I would love to see some of the secondary characters come into their own and get their own happy ever afters too.

This book had me laughing so hard I wheezed, teared up, and outright cried in other parts. The emotional rollercoaster throughout this book had me drawn in, unable to put the book down until I finished. Absolutely loved the characters and their quirks, the storyline and the underlying issues people deal with on a daily basis that most don't realize. Reading and growing with this couple and their families was such an amazing journey. This was the first book I've read by this author, but I have every intention of devouring the rest!

This might just be my new favorite Karina book. I loved everything about it. From the setting (Ok, I’m a SoCal girl so I might be a tad biased with this one) to the characters, the fun and quirky banter, and the complicated mess underneath. It was fan-freaking-tasting. Marina was so relatable. I felt like she could be me. Picking her split ends, painting her nails but not her face, her nervous habits, feeling the need to word vomit in every awkward silence. Weirdos need love, too! And Laz...he’s just Laz. No words for that one. I was hooked on this book from the very start and was smiling ear to ear by the time I finished. 5 stars :)

A beautifully written heartfelt journey between friends who grow into more. The characters are well defined with their own feelings that are true to character throughout without being repetitive or stupid. Indulgent prose are perfectly coupled with plot making the whole thing an enjoyable fast read. Better editing than I have come to expect with Kindle Unlimited was incredibly refreshing. Super steamy moments that are so good.

I love a good friends to lovers romance. This book was more of a slow burn but it may have just been the timing of the holidays stopping my reading time. I loved the characters and have no complaints. Marina was funny and dorky as much as Laz is the ultra cool poet/rocker. Marina’s facts about the bees were interesting and it was a refreshing occupation for a character to have. The story is sweet and Karina was able to capture the fear of putting your trust in another person. There are a few parts I highlighted because I really related to what she was trying to say through her characters.

Loved this book, especially how Laz and Marina couldn't be any more opposite of each other yet the chemistry between them is fantastic. One of my favorite current romance trends are the friends to lovers and against the odds, that's just what Laz and Marina become. Their road of friendship to more is sometimes funny, sometimes quirky, the right amount of emotions all mixed together.

I think this might be my favorite Karina Halle book yet! Bad at Love has all the elements I loved in a friends-to-lovers book: a friendship between characters that is believable, witty banters and sexual tension. I love that by the end of the book, I feel like I know each characters so well because we know their background, quirks and their weaknesses.

It was obvious from their first meeting that Marina and Laz were attracted to each other, but I love that they didn't immediately act on it until 4 years later, when they are already friends and knew each other well. Although he was undeniably physically attracted to Marina, I love that Laz truly did consider her only as a friend first. This makes us root for them and really believe that what they have is true love.

One of my favorite things in this book is the beekeeping which is a unique and interesting aspect that added to Marina's character. As for Laz, right from the start, we all know we're going to love him--being a musician, an Instagram poet and all--a brooding, a-hole rocker that shows his vulnerability and weirdness. I also love the side characters, especially Naomi and Scooby because they have the best quirks and love advices!

I just wish there was more, of what I don't know. It just didn't blew me away enough to give this book 5 stars. But I still liked it very much to leave a review!

Overall, it was a fun and entertaining read that you could finish in one sitting. You will laugh out loud and maybe shed a few tears. I recommend this book if you want a light, solid read.

I enjoyed this book. Wrongs were acknowledged and relationships ensued. This book was a true relationship romance. We got to see why these characters kept making mistakes.

It was a dual POV, but I liked Laz’s parts best.

Seriously you rock! You are now my favorite author, an let me tell you I read, a LOT! I thought I was invested heart and soul in the characters in The Prince, well surprise, I openly wept at the pain these beautiful characters were going through in Bad at love! You know how to write books that are non-repetitive, fact filled, gamut of emotions packed stories that come to life. Never become repetitive because repetitive is boring. Writing is like a marraige, you have to work at keeping the spice alive! Thank you Karina!

This was a very sweet read with an epic heartbreak. The beginning was a bit boring and did drag some, but if u can push through the first 15/20% you won’t be disappointed. You really feel the connection between Laz & Marina. Their love and heart aches are just so genuine and relatable, you will definitely be balling your eyes out at some point during this read. If your looking for a sweet romance that just gives you that squishy feeling inside and makes you give a big huge wonderful sigh at the end, than you need to definitely get this read.

Best friends to lovers - yes! Laz and Marina were so fun. Laz was hot, funny, and knew the way to a woman's heart. Marina was independent, smart and gorgeous. They were friends that didn't know they needed to be more. Their journey was sweet, healthy and portrayed beautifully. It's always an interesting dynamic to see someone become "my kinda weirdo". What I really enjoyed about this book was that, they weren't perfect. They had been through some serious stuff. They knew each other's moods, high and lows. It was an organic shift. Wow!

AS ALWAYS FIVE STARSSS. Karina Halle never disappoints. She is my favorite author, and for a reason. Bad at Love was fresh, fun and exciting. I fell in LOVE with Laz. He was amazing. My favorite part of the story was Marina. She was so different. She was clumsy with love, she was silly and I LOVED IT. She was very relatable on many levels. This story was so awesome that I finished it in two days. You won’t be disappointed. Give it a shot.

This book was funny and sweet. Cruel and tragic. Wonderful and heartbreaking. It was life in its truest form. We all have our stories and our baggage. We all desperately hope to find that one messed up person out there who gets who we are and loves us for it. Thank you Karina Halle for another unforgettable book to add to the rest of your masterpieces!

I never review books. Mostly because this account is in my husband’s name and some dude named Zachary reviewing chick lit and romance might be odd. This time I don’t care. This book was everything. The character development was amazing, the story, the poetry, the songs...this was everything. I call myself a “words girl” and this book resonated with me deeply. I was sitting in my living room and about halfway through I just hugged my phone to my chest and said “I love this book” to no one because I was alone and it’s that good.

Read this. It’s Kindle Unlimited so I’ll be keeping (bee keeping) this for forever basically. If it were paperback it would be dog eared in no time. This book was “confetti in my soul”.

Two weirdos who I adore!! Omg! I loved this book!! It was so sweet and so quirky that I couldn't stop reading it. Great characters who give you all the feels. A storyline that makes you want to know how it will end each and every chapter. Side characters that become important and who open their eyes. Highly recommended.

When Marina meets Lazarus she is attracted to him, but he has a girlfriend. They become best friends. She is a serial dater not making it past third dates, granted she is a quirky girl very into Bees. Lazarus is a Rocker and has girls falling in love with him but he always breaks up with them. Marina and Laz decide to date each other to help figure out the other's problem. Marina has the funniest dating stories. Great story of friends to lovers. Loved it

This is a beautiful, if somewhat gut wrenching, story. The characters are wonderfully quirky. I'm so glad to see Karina Halle is back on track with her writing!

I wasn't too sure about the title, but I gave it a try, and I was delighted. I also learned some rather fascinating facts about bees!
