Dick Morris and Eileen McGann enjoy an opinion industry based upon bottomless wells of resentment, anger and indignation. But what are we being sold? The last few years provide them with towering dunghills of dumbfounding disappointments, scandalous lies, massive blunders, greed, corruption, cover-ups and outrageously costly governmental decisions that unfortunately have had terrible consequences both at home and abroad. The title and timing of this book are not accidental. We also have serious problems that do not have self-inflicted causes but these authors understand human nature. We need someone to blame and preferably find them without resorting to complicated explanation or analysis. Nonetheless, it is understandable that millions of citizens are furious with the status quo and our elected representatives in general. There was responsibility, at least in part, that requires accountability. Conducting a war costing hundreds of billions a year while lowering taxes was never done before for very good reasons. It was a ruinous, ridiculous move. His audience, an angry, bipartisan demographic includes at least some of us all of the time and all of us some of the time. It is a very large, comprehensive group of potential consumers whose buttons are prone to be pushed right now. Morris has a talent for delivering the goods in regards to the pre-existing appetite of popular opinion. In a way, he is a service provider. You can decide if he is right or to what degree. Intuitively, but also judged by the success of hot, raging, ranting talk shows on radio and TV, one would consider the print media equally ripe for picking. That harvest has already begun but the Morris franchise keeps refining its message. Lou Diatribe Dobbs is another example of an opportunist making money with the same message by telling the amorphous middle class that it is under lethal attack by its own government, NAFTA and illegal immigrants. There are no grey zones, qualifiers or nuances and never competing arguments of merit. The "mad fad" is healthy, prosperous and keeps growing as things grow worse. We can be primed to stay perpetually furious. The Morris/McGann message is "You are getting screwed by the usual suspects, the people, institutions, organizations and groups that you already disliked anyway." For example, although his ploy to tap into today's widespread degree of disrespect and distrust of government and corporations is not entirely without merit but it loses all perspective when attribution of blame rather than a deeper understanding of the problems themselves is the goal. Moreover, everything is so simple, easy to understand and so very clear. And that is exactly the problem. There is an obvious formula here so only if your blood pressure still needs to be raised also read their companion tirade, Outrage: How Illegal Immigration, the United Nations, Congressional Ripoffs, Student Loan Overcharges, Tobacco Companies, Trade Protection, and Drug Companies Are Ripping Us Off . . . and. This billboard-like title once again scores by also emphasizing dependable lightning rods. Naturally there can and will be repetition in his genre. They tell one side of every issue well enough to be convincing.

Dick Morris is a very bright man whose insider, Beltway knowledge and experience about politics, government and socio-political trends have come honestly in the field. His roughly two decade long relationship with the Clintons might make his present day association with the Fox network seen ideologically strange but controversy and resentment thrive there and he is very much at home. Moreover, under a thin veil of objectivity assumed by attacking both political parties he obfuscates the nature of resentment available to him in polls that make the president and Congress extremely unpopular today. He does not have to pick a side when he claims to be "for the people". This book is not going to change how you see the world. Instead of discovery he is counting upon the premise that he is telling his audience exactly what they want to hear. He reaffirms and proves that his readers were right all along and this is the crux - before reading his book(s). It is quite a fast and easy read that might be most beneficial for catharsis. This is not investigative journalism, let alone the ground breaking kind. First and foremost, his books are a successful business proposition with a clearly defined niche. He exploits popular bias at a time when emotions run hot and with good reason. That is not the same as saying everything he says is false or without substance. He does muddy the waters by oversimplification and reductionist approaches. It becomes a matter about flattering pre-formed biases. We are not naturally predisposed to challenging what can often be our emotionally inflamed preconceptions. I do not recommend this book.

However, if you want more interesting and/or entertaining and possibly insightful writing, look at his some of his earlier, solo books. After all, he has a rare depth of insider knowledge about the Clintons before he resigned over a matter that was in keeping with Bill's similar lapses in judgement when Morris was his campaign manager in 1996. It possibly explains what some see as payback books. By coincidence he did write about the Clintons: Behind the Oval Office: Getting Reelected Against All Odds about Hillary's second ghost-written book, her memoir, Rewriting History, about power, The New Prince: Machiavelli Updated for the Twenty-First Century,Power Plays: Win or Lose--How History's Great Political Leaders Play the Game and Off with Their Heads: Traitors, Crooks & Obstructionists in American Politics, Media & Business. A work of pure speculation pits Ms. Rice against Ms. Clinton in the first women's challenge for presidency: Condi VS Hillary the Next Great Presiden.

Pragmatic political decision making places restrictions and stress upon ethics from his point of view. He understands power at the highest levels in our recent times and the demands of realpolitik. That is interesting but today he writes different books. His knowledge of politics in this nation is formidable. If you are a fan of his, you are in luck. You can receive email articles from his website by registering at [...].

I suspect that Mr. Morris has a very robust sense of humor.

I suspect if I were consumed by the pathological hatred of Bill and Hillary Clinton that Dick Morris admittedly is then Fleeced would make more sense, carry more weight and frankly, be far more persuasive. The topics from Health Care to Media Bias are all ripe for a no holds barred examination in a "let the facts lead wherever they might" approach...

... it is unfortunate that Morris knee-caps himself at every turn.

Morris writes as he talks with all the subtlety of a Molotov cocktail and consciously or not, manages to infuse almost every chapter and argument (no matter how salient) with an almost comical and circuitous return to the all-encompassing shadow of his former employers. This is a shame since Fleeced is a book based on personal sensibilities that I really wanted to embrace.

Still a worthy, though uneven, read.

Fleeced has one of the largest subtitles you can find on the bookshelves today so I will only cite it once -- Fleeced: How Barack Obama, Media Mockery of Terrorist Threats, Liberals Who Want To Kill Talk Radio, The Do-Nothing Congress, Companies That Help Iran, And Washington Lobbyists For Foreign Governments Are Scamming Us...And What To Do About It. But the subtitle does fulfill its purpose by telling, in a nutshell, what the book is all about.

Morris, an insider in the Clinton Administration, provides insight into how government works. Fleeced is an indictment of large government and how it doesn't work. One of the often quoted quips from his book is that of the 425 terrorists released from Gitmo some 50 have been recaptured or killed in Iraq, clearly suggesting that many if not almost all of the detainees are indeed combatants.

Without showing any favoritism, Morris strikes out at Republicans and Democrats, left and right wingers, Congress, President Bush, the Supreme Court as well as John McCain, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton. He points out that both McCain and Obama have taken a year off to run for president but still collect their $165,000 a year salary for being U.S. Senators even though they are not on the job anymore. After pointing out that healthcare is being allocated far more resources than education, Morris shares his concern for the large numbers of teachers leaving their professions and what the long-range implications of that are for our country.

Fleeced also contains fascinating insight into the anti-work ethic of our national lawmakers, into the subprime loan crisis, and into credit card hidden charges, poison in toys, and how movies are enticing teens to smoke. The authors detail how taxpayers are being fleeced by their own government, how foreign nations and domestic corporations are trying to set the agenda for Congress, how labor unions are fleecing the American worker, and then calls out by name specific lawmakers how are fleecing the American people.

Fleeced is a well-researched book as well as entertaining. An easy read, the book focuses on several issues without getting bogged down in detail on any one subject. Among the quick topics covered are: the liberals' secret plan to muzzle talk radio; how the media downplays jihad terrorism; how to block toys from China that are poisoning our children, how the NEA entices its members to invest in annuities that sap their retirement nest eggs, contractor fraud in Iraq, the real reason why Hillary Clinton initially supported the war in Iraq, and how a new Democratic President will defang the Patriot Act while NSA wiretapping will remain in force. But the main thrust of Fleeced is to identify the culprits, expose their deeds, and suggest remedies to hold government accountable so taxpayers will no longer be fleeced.

Overall, this is another book that details some of the things every voter needs to know going into this election but almost certainly does not. Since it's been thoroughly reviewed by others, I just want to quickly give what I saw as good and bad points on the book.

Good: Dick Morris is a true insider, and really knows that of whence he speaks. There are items here that have passed up every other talking head out there.

Good: Though it's been pegged as a weakness by others, almost all the references give online links. This makes it easy for the ordinary person to fact check anything Dick Morris cites.

Bad: TERRIBLE editing. I got the idea that this book was rushed out the door -- perhaps some deadlines missed? Anyway, it wasn't just commas and typos; there were places where substantial errors were missed -- like forgetting the word "not." Also a couple of figures that were puzzling, not helpful. Definitely, Dick, give it a little more time next time.

Bad: Not enough clarity on Obama. I think Dick wrote this to shred his favorite target, Hillary. When Obama won the nomination, he had to go back and develop out the things he'd written on Obama, and in a hurry. These portions are the worst edited of the book -- and they feel more than a little sloppy. That more than anything dropped this book from a four-star to a three-star.

I'd still recommend the book -- but knowing what to expect may keep you from being disappointed.

I found Morris' book informative. However, it was not a quick read; some chapters I had to trudge through.

There were eighteen chapters in the book. I found the following ideas (covered in four of the chapters) most interesting: Congress gets paid quite a bit for not doing very much; law firms in our capital make millions by lobbying Congress on behalf of foreign governments; the National Education Association is selling pension funds to their members and charging extremely high fees; the subprime mortgage crisis was a lender's scam from the beginning.

I enjoyed an idea in the conclusion of the book. Morris says people think Republicans usually are for less government; Democrats for more. Morris says this is a generalization; he thinks both parties should work to pass laws that punish evil and reward good. Punishing bad behavior deters people from doing the same, and rewarding good behavior encourages people to do more of the same.

I like Dick Morris. I enjoy his commentaries on FoxNews and his columns in various media. I think Morris's politics are more libertarian than anything else, though some of his positions are conservative, which is not the same as Republicanism.

"Fleeced", however, strikes me as being written to make the cash register ring and not too much more. Morris and his partner of some kind, Eileen McGann, cover 18 topics ranging from what a President Obama would do to a rather strange chapter on public school teachers to homes built in flood plains. I got the feeling thst Morris threw in anything and everything that might attract attention and sell the book.

While Morris is critical in some areas, I got the impression that he pulled his punches on others. Some of his positions strike me as odd. His chapter on why teachers are leaving teaching public schools struck me as strange. His remedy? More money, of course. That nostrum is rather stale when you look at how much has been expended on public education since the 1960s - and how little it has accomplished. Morris then goes on to justifiably lambasting the teacher's union.

Morris goes from chastising the Clintons, a favorite activity of his, to a rant on poisonous toys and Hollywood's subversion of teenagers with scenes of smoking in movies.

Overall, it's an odd book. As I said, I think it was written to induce as many people as possible to buy it - a goal that has been successfully reached, judging from the best seller lists. It isn't a bad book: just a strange book, even as it informs the reader.

This is a Brillant book by a Brillant American. Great Job Dick Morris
Indeed you are correct that America is being dumb down by the Liberal
Left Liars. Thank you for this eye opening masterpiece.

It is this mindset that caused Americans to be caught so off-guard on September 11th.

All of this is the expression of religion; President Bush is absolutely wrong!

Why were American politicians and the American public so blindsided by the September 11th attack? Why were the FBI, the CIA, Congress, the Pentagon, the mayor of New York and the President of the United States caught so unaware? They were busy studying the politics of the Middle East, and not the religion of Islamic fundamentalism. As long as President Bush refuses to admit that Ground Zero for the war on terrorism is a religion called Islamic fundamentalism, we will not be able to win the war. It has been said that he who defines the terms, wins the debate.

America has been in Osama bin Laden's murderous crosshairs since 1998 when he issued a fatwa calling on Muslims everywhere to kill Americans. No one in this country took him seriously when he wrote:

'The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies'civilians and military'is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it, in order to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy mosque [Mecca] from their grip, and in order for their armies to move out of all the lands of Islam, defeated and unable to threaten any Muslim. This is in accordance with the words of Almighty God, 'and fight the pagans all together as they fight you all together,' and 'fight them until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in God.'

'We'with God's help'call on every Muslim who believes in God and wishes to be rewarded to comply with God's order to kill the Americans and plunder their money wherever and whenever they find it. We also call on Muslim ulema, leaders, youths, and soldiers to launch the raid on Satan's U.S. troops and the devil's supporters allying with them, and to displace those who are behind them so that they may learn a lesson.'
Yes, Islamic fundamentalism is a religion'and it kills. The enemy is among us, and we can no longer define who that enemy is. Like the frog in the vat of water, we are perfectly happy to take our ease ' not realizing until it is too late that the pot reached the boiling point while we were lulled into a false sense of security.
U. N. members are screaming loudly, entreating anyone who will listen to save the terrorist regime, Hamas. The organization has not only murdered Jews, but Palestinians as well. The world should be outraged, yet the silence is deafening, especially after 9/11.

"Give me your passport!" I smiled and said, "Little boys, you should be playing with toys, not guns." The two boys, about nine and ten years old, clicked off the safeties on their Russian AK-47s. I suddenly realized I was a dead man if I made one wrong move. It was on October 22, 1983 in Beirut, Lebanon. The following day two hundred forty-one U. S. Marines would be murdered in their barracks.

The night before I had videoed the Marines' Christmas messages to their loved ones back in the States. What a shock to see children, or as the liberal media describe them, "innocent civilians," waging Jihad. These children had been trained for years in a radical Islamic kindergarten terror camp.

Yesterday, I met with Sderot's mayor Eli Moyal just one mile from the Gaza border where 7,500 Hamas-fired missiles have landed. The mayor's office is a bunker as are many buildings in Sderot. The children's play areas are filled with concrete playground equipment which can double as bunkers in the event of a missile attack.

Hezbollah and Hamas, Iran's sub-contractors, have perfected the art of manipulating the media. This has been achieved despite the fact they are rabid, racist, terrorist organizations that make the Ku Klux Klan look like mere Boy Scouts.

Some time ago, I debated Al Sharpton on Hardball with Chris Matthews. The topic was Israel's use of what the media labels "excessive force." I said to Mr. Sharpton, "Would you defend the KKK if it fired thousands of missiles into Harlem, and the residents of Harlem responded with what the media perceived to be 'excessive force'?"

The media does not want to show hundreds of Israeli trucks crossing into Gaza with medicines and food. Likewise, no one wants to acknowledge that Israeli hospitals in southern Israel continue to treat wounded Palestinians. Neither is it popular to acknowledge that the majority of the injured and dead are Hamas operatives and fighters who surround themselves with innocent civilians, often women and children.

During the Hezbollah attack on Israel in 2006, I was shocked to see American liberal reporters stage shots on the roofs of 4- and 5-star hotels in Haifa. These reporters, attired in dress slacks and spit-shined shoes, had donned flak jackets and helmets in order to look as if they were reporting from Lebanon. Most often, their stories were about "innocent Lebanese civilians" being killed. These men and women refused to acknowledge that the missiles were being fired from Hezbollah garages hidden deep in populated areas. One cannot escape the truth that a person is just as dead whether killed by a woman or child, or an adult, male terrorist dressed in a quasi-military uniform.

America's greatest threat is from Liberal Left liars and lunatics in the media determined to lull the American people into complacency. Most often, the victims of terror are castigated while the terrorists are lionized. The war on terror cannot be won unless media terror is exposed

Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the United Nations Security Council is currently meeting and is working intensely with members and key leaders, both here and in capitals, to push for a resolution concerning the situation in Israel and Lebanon. The critical question is: With a consistently anti-Israel, anti-Zionist bias how can the UN, with a 'don't ask, don't tell' policy when it comes to Bigotry against the Jews possibly be the savior of the day? Will this meeting be reminiscent of the UN-hosted World Conference against Racism in Durban, South Africa only two weeks before 9/11? Both the Israel and U.S. delegations walked out of the conference when racism was equated with Zionism. Yes, Iran, Hizbullah, and even Hamas are now encouraging the UN to act. I wonder why?

Could it be a ploy to allow a group of about 60 Iranian volunteers that set out from Teheran to join fellow Iranian volunteers in Lebanon time to reach their destination?

With yellow Hizbullah flags flying, Amir Jalilinejad, chairman of the Student Justice Movement, told the Associated Press, "We are just the first wave of Islamic warriors from Iran." "More will come from here and other Muslim nations around the world. Hizbullah needs our help."

As if to stress the closeness of the jihadist terrorist alliance, the group gathered in a section of Teheran's main cemetery reserved for war dead and other "martyrs" and prayed before a memorial to Hizbullah suicide bombers. They praised Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah and pledged their loyalty to the Islamist fanatics who perpetrated the 1983 bombing of the US Marines barracks in Beirut in which 241 US servicemen were murdered. A second bombing killed 56 French peacekeepers.

The Iranian volunteers ' ranging in age from teenagers to men old enough to be their grandfathers ' are eager to join the Islamist death cult that both characterizes Hizbullah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. It is an ideology that justifies brainwashing Arab children to become 'martyrs' by blowing themselves up among Israeli children, that warrants using entire Lebanese villages as human shields, behind which to launch thousands of deadly missiles at Israeli population centers.

And part of the shame of it is they are proud of this! As David Brooks wrote this week in The New York Times, there are Hizbullah 'victory markers' strewn all over southern Lebanon, which tour buses would visit during happier times.

'One brightly colored sign, written in both Arabic and (rough) English, marked the spot where 'On Oct. 19, 1988 at 1:25 p.m. a martyr car that was body trapped with 500 kilograms of highly exploding materials transformed two Israeli troops into masses of fire and limbs.'

'Busloads of tourists would take victory tours and stop at the prominent sights. Before the current war, there were gift shops and, in at least one place, a poster showing a Hizbullah fighter lifting a severed Israeli head. It all testified to the magnetism of a successful idea: that Muslim greatness can be restored through terrorism.'

It is not unlikely that Hizbullah hypocrites are even now preparing new 'victory markers' for the hundreds of Lebanese civilians whose deaths they caused by using them as human shields, firing missiles at Israel from inside their houses and using their homes to store weapons. Israel inadvertently killed Lebanese non-combatants when being forced to strike back at Hizbullah in self-defense ' and that is the difference. Israel dropped leaflets and made radio broadcasts warning Lebanese civilians to flee the fighting, while Hizbullah has fired more than 2,000 missiles trying to kill as many Israeli civilians as possible.

There is perhaps no better an example of how Islamist extremists memorialize terrorism than an exhibition held by students at An-Najah University in Nablus on the West Bank a few years ago. It commemorated the 'victory' of a suicide bomber who blew himself up at the Sbarro pizzeria in Jerusalem on August 9, 2001, murdering 15 people, seven of them children. The students built a replica of the restaurant, complete with fake human body parts and pieces of pizza strewn around the room. It was very popular.

Morris does an excellent job of pointing the problems that exist in both governmental and business bureaucraries. He explains quite well the shortcomings of the home finance business, and points out the negatives of the presidential candidates.

HOWEVER, his recommended solutions are those of a typical liberal democrat--throw more money at it, or create more bureaucracy to oversee it.

What we need is less government, not more; and less spending on frivilous projects, not more. We need honest politicians who seek to do the public good, not feather their own nests by enriching themselves through their actions in government. Morris' solutions all lead to more of the same bureaucratic failings that we currently experience.

The book is, literally, trash. I bought it thinking that it would contain intelligent commentary on the current political campaign and because it was hyped on conservative talk shows. It is full of typos, incorrect grammar, and poorly constructed charts. It is, literally, trash and only useful for lining bird cages. Not recommended for anyone with an IQ greater than 0. And, by the way, my personal political philocopy is somewhere to the right of Attila the Hun.

This book should open the eyes of most Americans as to the `workings' of Washington; along with what should not be working! It is time to vote the majority of Congressmen OUT and start over. Nancy Pelosi is the biggest disappointment for the women in this country that we have ever experienced.

In addition, `Barack Obama' is an `empty suit' that will attempt to make America over in the `European Mold' leaning toward Socialism! Dick Morris has put forward a systematic account of what is and has been wrong with our government.

The Bush administration did not start this downward spiral of America; it was started and is still going on by the actions, along with the often inaction of our Congressional representatives. Moreover, the 'Pork Barrel' spending should enrage us all! FLEECED is a MUST READ, for all individuals that care about our country and want to be educated when it comes to their vote!

Like a present day Nostradamus, Morris nailed the outcome of nearly all of the issues from this most recent election. It is kind of spooky! Morris is the Washingon insider that is so politically astute that both sides of the aisle should fear his accurate and pointed disclosures. Morris tears back the veil concealing these Washington politicians and exposes them for all their dubious agendas; in great detail. Yes fellow Americans, we ARE being Fleeced and this book is a must read for all who wish to help drag politics out of the shadows and into the disinfecting sunlight of day. Only there can we begin with the SEEMINGLY insurmountable task of reforming OUR government and putting it back into the hands of the people; putting it to work for us instead of us working for it. Encore Mr. Morris! Encore!

Once upon a time the image was easier to picture. A smooth-talking wise guy would suddenly appear at the office of a judge or a politician with an envelope stuffed with cash. A deal that couldn't be refused was offered and accepted.

It was what it was, bribery and corruption, pure and simple.

Now, as Dick Morris relentlessly points out, page after page, there may no longer be envelopes filled with cash, but there is a far more widespread, and insidious, form of corruption. It may debatably not be as bloody, but the effect is far more expansive, and expensive. And yet, politicians rationalize this neo-corruption as though it has devolved into a legitimate form of governing. After all, if everyone else is doing the same thing, it cannot be wrong - especially when there are so many convenient loopholes, and unexplainable rationalizations to hide behind.

Wrong!

In "Fleeced", Morris describes - and decries - the widespread corruption that compromises the most sacred principles of our Country. NB - in an earlier book, Lou Dobbs equally as passionately shows the impact of this corruption on the very people they allegedly represent in his book, "War Against The Middle Class".

There are so may previous reviews regarding "Fleeced" that I will not redundantly repeat what this book covers, but it is a lot - and it is very tough to take. Suffice it to say that what we need is a new generation of Muckrakers and Untouchables to clean up Washington, and to present the nation with new images that are once again easy to understand - that of corrupting and corrupted lobbyists and politicians wearing handcuffs to bind their greedy hands, and scruffy raincoats to hide their shamed faces as they head off to prison.

In short, "Fleece" will make you angry. More important, I hope it will make you think about your votes in the upcoming elections.

Morris has written a book that gives the Americans something to think about before you punch that ballot in November.

Although he does touch on what life under an Obama administration would be like, he also hits on present abuse of power in the Bush administration.

I found the format of the book helpful. Each chapter is clearly a subject in and of itself. In each chapter, Morris explains the subject, then gives specific examples of where the political leaders have gone wrong. There are boxes separate in each couple of pages that highlight the most important points he is making. The end of the book have hundreds of references a reader could check to see if what he is writing is true.

This book is NOT just about Obama as others have suggested. Morris has mentioned how Halliburten Corporation is taking advantage of OUR money by overcharging millions of dollars, demanding their employees are housed in a 5 star hotel in Iraq, and even charging the government 100. for each 15 pounds of laundry being done. Once chapter discusses how a known terriost was captured, kept in Cuba, then released because he used a false name, only to write letters and laugh at us while he began killing American soldiers. It opens your eyes to the TRUTH of many subjects, and how our tax dollars are being spent.

I found the book fascinating, and gave me a point of reference of the issues, including illegal immagration, health care, social security, etc, and how Obama, Clinton, Bush and McCain have voted in the past. He mentions that all three - Clinton, Obama and McCain left their PAID JOBS in the senate to run for office, and never gets a cent docked from their pay!. I think I want that job!!

If the reader can look at this book as a means to begin to question what canidates stand for, and use it as a starting point to truly study the policies, then maybe the right person will be put into office (if that is even possible in the selection this year).

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is open and would like to read the proof of various subjects that will be discussed during the debates to come.

Are we watching a breakdown here? Again, Mr. Morris has written a book, or should I say helped write, that shows his animosity toward all those in his past who have discovered what he is. Here's a man fired by an administration who has supposedly devoted his life to belittling that administration and all associated with it. Here's a man whose own morals can be questioned; who refuses to pay his taxes; and is courted by the neo-cons to be their jester, writing his opinions as if they amounted to something. Come on now lets be real.....

Dick Morris has successfully gathered the data and given us a clear and coherent analysis in this well written book. The only major flaw I can find is that he is too soft on Obama's false claims that he has never taken money from lobbyists when one of the very few things he has an actual history of doing is TAKING MONEY FROM PACs and lobbyists! Here is a link to a Boston Globe article highlighting my point.

[...]

I would love to know why Dick Morris did not mention this in the book, considering the fact that it augments his argument against Obama. But everyone ought to know of Barack Obama's hypocrisy when it comes to attacking his opponents on the issue of lobbyists when he himself has a history of the very same behavior.

Despite this omission of relevant content, I recommend that every American ought to read this book. Especially because of the bipartisan themes this book conveys and the awareness it raises. Nobody is left off the hook when the system is rotten to the core. If you want to know how our politicians and government are cheating us and what we can do about it, THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ.

While reading this book I found myself getting more and more upset. Trying and not succeeding I understand.
Making a mistake in judgement, it happens to all of us. But Dick Morris highlights the stupidity, incompetence and a sheer disregard for what's the right thing to do. This point is illustrated by the chapter on the sub-prime
lending mess.

The rest of book deals with other wrongs, from do nothing politicos to companies doing business with Iran. You
pick the chapter, your sure to find one that makes your blood boil

Many different kinds of fleeces are documented. All the way from infoUSA and Bill Clinton to Halliburton (with a possible Dick Cheney connection). The really big fleece is discussed on page 20 where the authors seem to have anticipated the beginning of the biggest "fleece" we might see in a life time: "Obama's capital gains tax increase might well trigger a stock market crash and devastate the already slumping real estate industry." This has now occurred before Obama's tax increase. If Obama in this situation gets into the White House and does govern like a left-winger as the authors expect him to, he will impose the tax increase, which will make the recession deeper and longer still (the possibility of depression cannot be ruled out). The other outrageous fleeces combined, in comparison, might fade into insignificance.

Yeah, I know that different people have problems with Dick Morris for a variety of reasons. However, he and his wife, Eileen McGann, have written a number of best selling books that rely less on his personal credibility than your ability to look up the claims he has made. He wrote a book each on Hillary and Bill Clinton that helped us see behind the public relations, an interesting book pitting Condoleezza Rice against Hillary in a thought experiment about our coming election. It turns out neither is in this race. But this book is part two of the format they began with "Outrage" a year ago(Outrage: How Illegal Immigration, the United Nations, Congressional Ripoffs, Student Loan Overcharges, Tobacco Companies, Trade Protection, and Drug Companies Are Ripping Us Off . . . and). There they hit on some key issues where we weren't getting the full story from our politicians and the media.

This book tells us how we are getting ripped off and being shorn like sheep by our politicians and media today. The book has 18 short chapters that criticize Democrats and Republicans for doing what is in their best interests rather than for the good of the general public. All of this is laid out clearly in the introduction.

The first chapter gives us information about Barack Obama that the media doesn't talk about because they are so in the tank for Obama. Morris shows us the costs of Obama's promises and what the harsh realities would be behind his glowing rhetoric. He even breaks down the so called 40 or 50 million uninsured, which is the reason we are supposed to socialize our health care. There are 10 to 12 million immigrants - not even legal immigrants - that Obama wants to put on your health care tab. 15 million of these folks are already eligible for Medicaid, but don't take it for some reason. There are another 15 million adults who have uninsured kids who could get free insurance. And 10 million more are adults without children who choose not to pay for health care. To me, this doesn't sound like a reason to turn our health care system upside down. Does it to you?

Morris also talks about the plan to bring back something like the fairness doctrine to suppress the success of conservative talk radio. McGann and Morris also expose the shameful way the current Congress has broken their promise to work more days than their predecessors and why they accomplish so little. They also hit the drum about major companies that do business with Iran and help support a nation that is our enemy and a very bad actor on the world stage.

They also cover dangerous practices in the way we permit lobbying and the representation of foreign governments by ex-government officials. Dubai's purchasing of many American assets also disturbs many people. I agree with them completely on the out of control credit card companies and banks levying excessive fees. If you want an industry with crazy profits, it isn't oil - it is banking.

Their chapter on teachers is interesting, especially when they talk about how the unions are ripping off teachers. However, I do not believe more pay will solve the problem of quality teachers. If you simply pay the same group of people more money they will not suddenly become more talented. Paying double for your Big Mac will not change the nature of the burger. You need to pay more to better and more talented people, but the unions will not allow you to get rid of lower quality teachers.

Morris also provides the facts on what has happened with the people we have released from Guantanamo and had to kill or capture on the battlefield again. The ridiculous specialized tax breaks billionaire hedge fund operators make. I am not against them making money, but against them getting tax breaks created specifically to enrich them and lower their market risk.

We also get told about the rip-offs of taxpayers in paying to rebuild homes in flood plains over and over again. Not only costly, but dumb. I also thought the explanation about the way rich executives are sticking you and me with the costs of the subprime mortgage crisis while they walk away with millions and tens of millions is information everyone should have.

The last few chapters cover Haliburton, bad toys from China, Bill Clinton's association with a company that rips off elderly folks, and how the tobacco industry uses movies and TV shows to advertise.

All in all a useful book. You don't have to agree with everything they say; I don't. However, all of it is material not well covered in today's media.

Worth reading.

Dick Morris and wife (I wonder who actually does the most writing and who does the most investigating...) have produced yet another fine book outlining many of the problems with our country today. He (they) go step by step and discuss in great detail important items. One particular chapter is really discouraging. That one (which name I've forgotten because I passed the book on to one of my family members) outlines the truly disgraceful amount of time our congressional members spend in working sessions. We should toss 'em ALL out! The Republicans as well as the Democrats. Well, I suppose the Independents, too. Apparently the "club" relationship in Washington is overpowering and quickly absorbs any new members that arrives. Anyway, I recommend this book to everybody with a serious interest in our present government. But let me warn you to be prepared to be rather depressed by the time you've finished it. Charles A. Reap, jr., author "Devil's Game" and "My Friend Sam."

Great book. It sure will make you think about all the corruption that we have in Washington. The book reveals this corruption much deeper than you will ever hear from our liberal media. A couple of the chapters were alittle dry (chapter 4, and chapter 6). The information in these chapters were good but it was alittle boring and deeper than I felt neccesary. That is why I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5 (just my opinion, yours may differ). Overall a great read and I look forward to Dick and Eileen's next book.

I have always enjoyed Dick Morris because I think he speaks the truth. I don't like many of the things he says, not because its spin but rather because its a reality I am not comfortable with. In this book he brings up issues about many divergent and problematic concerns which also made me uneasy, I think this is a good thing. If one looks at the Table of Contents you will find many topics that will interest or distress those of any political perspective, a fair and balanced endeavor.

I appreciated "Outage" more however in "Fleeced" I found myself challenged to be objective which is a healthy effort for anyone attempting to be thoughtful.

Dick Morris shows how our elected officials are at odds with the U.S. citizens and our Constitution. He backs up his claims with hard hitting facts, most of which can be researched by those who read the book. I highly recommend this book to those looking for truth.

Clearly, those who really like Dick Morris will buy his books, and those who ferociously dislike him will use the pages for other purposes. This review merely recommends picking up the book for reading, knowing that most people will both find many sections they disagree with, and will also be entertained by the story as it goes along.

As with other Morris-McGann books, the authors depend on a mild variety of shock value. They mildly shock the reader with the amount of detail they are willing to put to paper, and risk libel actions downstream. They also shock by taking on a variety of topics reaching all over the political and sociological spectrum. Imagine hearing first their outrage (and earlier book title!) about an Obama presidency, then later a more vigorous anger over Haliburton's recent skulduggery in Iraq? Or first about the badmouthing of teachers' unions fleecing their teachers, then later about teachers being underpaid? In truth, these are all of one stripe: the rich and powerful tend to have more tools and opportunity to take advantage of "regular" people. To the extent that their research is both accurate AND reasonably complete, the fleecing truly is outrageous.

The Morris's will simply have to get better editing, though. If the reader gets distracted by bad English usage or confusing language style, then there are small parts of "Fleeced" which will grate the nerves from time to time. There are thankfully fewer of these than in "Outrage." One of the gems showing up on page 217: "Satisfied to know that they investments are being well managed,...." Awful! The publisher should have known better also. Nevertheless, English professors simply have to get over extreme judgments, and go get the book. At least check it out from the library.

Excellent! Dick Morris always has good documentation for the facts he presents. His opinions are clearly evident and have value from his years of experience in analysis of data. I look forward to the next book he and Eileen write.

This book promises a lot, but doesn't deliver much. It fails to build a case against the left, or against the media. It doesn't talk enough about Barack Obama's plans. Overall, I would say I was disappointed by it.

This book once agin tried to warn Americans about many dangerous thought provolking issues. We are a nation of "Greed" and its beginning to be more obvious as time goes by. Dick Morris serves up much food for thought. Many folks refuse to accept the facts, others prefer to ignore them.

This election cycle will make or break America's future yet the choices we are given has been referred to as "Electile dysfunction" with no options to save us.

It's not just politics as usual but the transition of America that is at stake. Read the book, hear the message.

Everyone should read this well written book. It is highly enlightening! People need to wake up, get educated. We are so much like a bunch of dung beetles, keeping our noses to the ground and rolling, rolling the ball not really knowing anything more than our own little pile of dung! I am grateful to people like Dick Morris for putting in the time and effort to educate us all!

I surely enjoyed reading this book by Dick Morris. I could read only a few pages at a time because I got so mad at everybody I had to go read another book to get my mind off what is going on all over this country. How do we let people get away with these things? One thing is for sure--both Democrats and Republicans are guilty. When will we do something to stop this fleecing?

Dick Morris used to be a strategist for the Clintons, so he knows how politicians operate. This book is well documented and sourced. His description of this Democrat congress as "do-nothing" is right on the mark; even today, as Americans are paying over four dollars a gallon for foreign oil, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid refuse to allow a vote on drilling. This book is an enjoyable read, but it will raise your blood pressure!

Not a bad book, but readers should be informed prior that it is set in the time frame of post-election of Obama. This leaves a lot to be desired as to the information given, since it is based on what might happen in the future IF he is elected, not the actual facts that have proven true. Because of this factor, I found it hard to stay interested in the book through all of the chapters. Had I held a copy in my hands and read briefly from it prior to purchasing it, I would not have bought it.

This book shows how Democrats have turned this country into a "partissan" country and how the Democrats are only for "their" party and not the people, how they are against the "Patriot Act", etc...etc. Written by Dick Morris, former "Clinton Campaign Manager", he sheds insight into the world of politics like no one else can. Great book!

It shouldn't be surprising that many reviewers attack the messenger while ignoring the message. OK. Morris is no saint. I agree. However he does have some warnings which we need to heed. The title sums up the problems rather well. How do we wake up and take action on solutions! He does have suggestions but we need to pay attention. Do we believe what we have seen and heard or what the media tells us to believe!

We know that Morris and McGann run a consulting business. And Mr Morris is a paid commentator and columnist. The media they create--books and columns and radio and television appearances have more to do with keeping their business healthy than with any ideology. So, this book, as all his books, is written to be a branding tool for the Morris business. As such, it is more ad copy-like than real books. It's put together with a clear brief to be provocative and punchy. Unfortunately, what works for a 350 word column doesn't really do it for a whole book. Or even, actually, a whole chapter. So, what the reader gets here is an extremely superficial view of the effects of the recent rise to power (?) dominance (?) of the Democratic party.
It's isn't really Morris' fault. Today's media pundit is simply running a business with all the demands on time and intellect and professional services firm has to deal with. It's easy to see how these books and columns get written--at the Admirals Club on layovers, in hotel rooms late at night or dictated back to someone at the office during some down time. The issue for a reader is coming to grips with the what qualifies as a book and what is just the advertising for the author's brand.

Although I'm still trying to finish reading this well-documented book, I have been made aware of and very alarmed at what is going on in our nation to weaken and make us vulnerable to collapsing from within. It is very disturbing to read what lobbyists from our country have done and are doing through major PR campaigns and other approaches to members of Congress to make rogue nations look favorable while those very nations seek to embarrass and/or destroy us. We are being sabotaged from within by lawmakers and former congressional leaders, including former President Clinton from their personal ties and financial gains with countries like Dubai. To learn how vast holdings of our country's real estate has been acquired by foreign nations, like Dubai is disheartening and frightening. This book informs, alarms and stirs you to want to get involved in a positive way to correct and change the downward spiral in which our nation is heading.

Come on people, pay attention. This book explains how we are being used, abused and ignored by the 'powers that be'. Thanks Dick for letting us into the back room and giving us an idea on what to do about it. Now its up to us to put your advice to use and get OUR country back.

The chapter that most impressed me was the one clearly expaining how the Subprime Mess happened and who got hurt the most. Most of us ordinary folk got hurt with the ramifications of the greed even though we were not borrowers because the global economy got damaged in various ways (difficulty in obtaining credit) Morris and Gann make an appeal to go track down and punish the slimy people who made these loans they knew could never be paid off because they wanted their fees, commissions, take, whatever. This chapter is well worth the price of the book. It is the best written explanation about what happened.

Really points out the liberal view of the world, and how they see America, and what Obama will do to America, especially with a democratic house, and senate. Everyone should read this book before this comming election

I downloaded this book into my Kindle this morning and I could not stop reading it. The authors do an excellent job at describing the nature and consequences of the current fleecing of Joe and Jane US Taxpayer, and how said fleecing can and will grow far worse under an Obama administration. I know three people in Ohio, and I'm urging them to read this book before November. I'm hoping that this book and others like it will spark spirited DEBATE among America's voters, who must learn about and talk-out the issues if we expect to continue to be self-governed. This "bringing us all together" garbage we keep hearing about is nothing more than "Ein volk, ein reich, ein fuhrer!" dressed up for modern Americans. Don't fall for it - Americans discuss, debate, and ARGUE the issues of our times - "unity" (in the political sense) is for servile dolts.

As other reviewers have said, Dick chose to make this book another partisan polemical, with the obligatory occasionally thrown in lines to try to seem unbiased, instead of offering any solutions. Unfortunately, they also use one of the audiobook narrators I hate most, Johnny Heller. Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, but his vocal affectations makes me want to dig my brain out through my ears. Johnny Heller and Howard Dully lower my quality of life.

Dick Morris has said on Sean Hannity radio that no true patriot could support Ron Paul. I am a medically retired disabled combat veteran of OEF/Afghanistan, & a very patriotic American. I'm also a grassroots supporter planning to vote for Ron Paul for President. Dickless Morris has personally insulted and deeply offended me. Dickless Morris can kiss my ass.

Just one example:

"Killing talk radio" is actually reviving the Fairness Doctrine where the media were required to allow alternate points of view. Ronald Reagan killed this doctrine, allowing guys like Rush Limbaugh to spew their distortions and right wing propaganda nonstop for three hours every day of the week, with no one to challenge them. Is allowing alternate points of view a bad thing?

Funny how the media is supposedly controlled by the liberals, but it is the conservatives who are so afraid of having alternate points of view. Don't waste your time on this trash.
