Incredible book. Wonderful and unique recipes are supported by insight into the creation of the dessert. Great photos give a sense of life in the kitchen in addition to the appearance of the finished product.

I enjoy baking and this cookbook has given me some new and interesting recipes to try. The most delicious thing I've made from this cookbook is the Lemon Meringue Pistachio Pie. It was worth buying the cookbook for that recipe alone. But there are other recipes in the book that are also very good--not necessarily easy to make--but good. Unfortunately I've fallen in love with the Corn Cookies and can't stop eating them if I have them in the house. I find it best to make these desserts when I'm having guests for dinner and there are no leftovers.

My first experience with Crack Pie was at my nephew's wedding in Saratoga Springs, NY. They served Crack Pie for desert. OMG!!!!!!!!! I had to have the recipe. I just received the book and am anxious to make my first pie. KUDOS to tne chef!

Nothing special. You can find all the recipes online. I thought there would be more appealing recipes in the book but there isn't. The photos in the book don't showcase the cakes or cookies very well, lot of artsy deconstructed photos of the finished product or ingredients. I love cookbooks so i'll keep this in my collection for the birthday cake recipe alone. If thats not important to you, just look up her cake recipes online.

Most of these recipes are online. I liked the fact that all of the recipes had very specified technique and were all listed in grams.
The recipes themselves were fair to Midling -there were no recipes that I thought were absolutely wonderful, however I have enjoyed making them.
I thought that the way the book was laid out that recipes that had to do with one another were not consecutive we laid out in the book was problematic.

As described the recipes are uncommon, but very well described. The photography was excellent.

although the chef makes these deserts with what she has, I don't, so I will be gathering items, then will attempt to make them

I had to return it.
The recipes were complete letdowns: lots of toppings, ice cream, ganaches, and crust recipes.
I was expecting more cookie/cake recipes other than the ones that are easily found by Google-searching. Nope, none of those.

The recipes have one or two wild ingredients -- but easy to source (talking about you glucose). But there are substitution hints for the ones that are not pantry staples. I've only had the cookbook for about a month, but have made several of the recipes and am looking forward to making many, many more. The cakes with the crumbles are amazing.

This is seriously one of our favorite and most used cookbooks. With just about every recipe we've made, the desserts have consistently been delicious. It should be said that most recipes are quite time and labor intensive so it's not a good next step if you're only comfortable with the Tollhouse cookie recipe on the bag of chocolate chips. If you're willing to work hard and follow the detailed instructions, you will not be disappointed. All of the cakes and pies are insanely rich and decadent. Highly recommended!

I have been obsessing over making the Compost Cookies for weeks and finding recipe after recipe copycatted all over the internet with mixed baking results -- rather than take a chance, I decided to just buy the book. It's such a hassle to make the weird ingredients that go into these cookies and the other recipes -- pie crust "crumbles", cornflake "crumbles", cereal milk... The cookie recipes don't use a full batch of the oddball ingredients, either, so you have to store the leftovers and then make some more if you want to make the cookies again. The chocolate chip, marshmallow, cornflake cookies were a disaster - flat and unappetizing looking. They tasted great, but were embarrassing to serve. The compost cookies behaved themselves better and again tasted great, but I'm frustrated -- the recipes but for the added goodies are practically the same. So, for the inconsistent results and extra time and crazy ingredients involved in these recipes, I'm just not wowed.

This cook book arrived exactly as promised. It was new and chock full of great recipes! I bought it for Christmas for my nephew who said it's one of his favorite places to go in NY. I would recommend this seller to anyone!

I bought this book after watching master chef. the episode with the malted milk cake. i had to order the speciality items on line for a few of the recipes and it was a lot of work. the end product was just ok. after all the work and time i expected something amazing and i didn't feel i reached that goal. also on the show where the malted cake was displayed and made, it is made differently in the book. it is not covered in the chocolate sauce in the recipe and i first bought the 6" cake pans (like on the show) then in the book it says to make the cake in a sheet pan and use 6" cake cutter to cut out the circles for the cake. I spent quite a bit of money on products and ingredients to make an average cake. I will keep trying more recipes and see the future results. my recommendation is to read the recipes and make sure you have all the ingredients and tools that the average home does not have.

I have used this cookbook more than any other cookbook that I own. I've made almost every cake and cookie in the book and they taste amazing! The flavor combinations in this book are so great that my friends who are professional chefs have asked me to make the cakes for them to take to family parties and to make cookies from this book to give as favors at their wedding. I even used recipes from this cookbook to make my own wedding cake and several other desserts for our small wedding reception. The corn cookies and the carrot layer cake with the liquid cheesecake layer are my favorite recipes in the book.

The recipes do call for some specific ingredients and equipment that can sometimes be hard to find locally, but you can always get them online. The layer cake recipes require you to make several different components and can take a good amount of time to complete, but the directions are very clear and concise and the end result is well worth the effort! The recipes give measurements in weight (which I love), but also in cups and tablespoons if you're more comfortable with that. I'm always on a search for a new cookbook that I will love as much as this cookbook, but I've yet to find one that can match the fun creativity and great flavor combinations of Milk Bar.

From a baking/dessert perspective, I REALLY wanted to like this book. While it is a fun and descriptive read, the desserts are way to sweet. My sugar-loving kids even complained of the Crack Pie being to sweet (this from kids who love candy). We also made the choc chip-marshmallow-cornflake cookies in the book. One thing is consistent: everything we tried was too sweet.

The book makes you drool with the amazing photos and commentary, which I enjoyed. However, I ordered a cookbook (not a picture book) and my stars reflect the accuracy of the recipes. I was really excited to get my hands on this cookbook and test out the recipies. I'm an avid cook/baker and love a challenge. Yes, there are a number of ingredients not found at your local grocery store (freeze dried corn, glucose, etc.) but can easily be obtained here on the store (or other websites).

This review is based on the first recipe I've tried: Cornflake-Marshmallow-Chocolate Chip Cookies

FAIL

Like another reviewer mentioned, these did not cook correctly. Something is terribly wrong with this recipe. I did everything correctly and attempted this in several batches. Each time I ended up with large flat burnt buttery crap. At 18 minutes baking, as suggested, you end up with an ornament for your trash and in one batch a lot of smoke from the butter. At about 8-9 minutes you end up with something resembling a cookie but still not very good and once cooled, horrible. These never looked anything like the mouth watering photo.

I am going to attempt to make the ice cream and compost cookies. I'll revise my rating if those come out better.

Disappointed as I had high hopes.

Delicious recipes and so original! Tastes as close to NYC as you can get, for being in Ohio. Only hangup, most of them are complicated and require some oddball ingredients. Try the Crack Pie or the Compost Cookies, by far the best!
