This book is fabulous! I have already made four recipes from it, and, seriously, once you understand what you're doing the cook-time is on average under 30 minutes. I love how straightforward, clear, and direct Roman is in her instructions. She really lets you know what things can be switched out or changed up and what things you really should put in a little extra effort to make or stock in your kitchen. I feel like I'm learning techniques to expand my cooking skills and not just recipes. If you love cooking but want a book without complicated ingredients or confusing instructions, this is it!

This book has a cool, Brooklyn-esque aesthetic that makes me want to rent an exposed brick loft--but also, the recipes are great. They're just the right balance of cookable (for me, a beginner home cook) and interesting. Some of the recipes are a little anchovy-heavy, which is maybe a tiny bit adventurous for me--but hey, I'm working on it. I haven't made many of the desserts but the key lime pie was great. This book has become a new staple for me.

Great book with fun and interesting recipes, beautiful photographs, and a fun voice. I have made a few things and they're already making their way into my regular rotation. She uses quite a bit of non-typical ingredients which may turn off more beginner/less-adventerous cooks, but its pushed me to try things I normally wouldn't even think of or try (read: anchovies and yuzu kosho). Her writing style is similar to how I think/speak about cooking, so I think that's why I am drawn to this particular book. I also love the photographs a lot.
Overall, it's a great book to add to an already well-developed cookbook collection, but might not be great for beginner home chefs.

This is the best collection of recipes I have ever seen that I would never, ever make or even want to eat. I felt compelled to offer this review, because I can only guess that the author is very popular (based on her personal comments and photos) and her loyal friends likely provided many of the glorious reviews. Either way, just a yucky mess and waste of shelf space. “Everything seeds sprinkled on avocado” is literally a 2-page recipe in this book. So...

"Dining In" is an absolute delight. The recipes are approachable but elevated. Roman's writing style is incredibly conversational and down to earth, as if a friend who sent you a recipe is giving you tips on why a certain ingredient works. The food is scrumptious and is bolstered by the incredible and fresh photography. I have recommended this beautiful book to all my friends who love cooking and those who are new cooks but aspire to love it. This book could make anyone fall in love with cooking and want to make Alison Roman proud. 10/10, would buy again!

This book has become my favorite cookbook virtually overnight. I've made recipes from virtually every chapter, and I've pretty much read it from cover to cover. I love Alison Roman's voice and the photographs / aesthetics make me want to devour every inch. I hope another cookbook is coming soon :)

Quite literally my favorite cookbook! Never have I had a single book that I could cook any recipe out of and LOVE the results. The biscuits, chocolate chip shortbeycookies, and slow salmon are my favs! I love it so much I've bought several other copies to give to my friends. Buy this book! You won’t regret it.

This is by far my favorite cookbook I’ve purchased in the last year. Alison has found a way to make cooking dinner fun. Of course the salted chocolate chip shortbread cookies are great, but I’ve enjoyed all the sides and salads the most. She has a way of combining everyday ingredients into flavors that are new. I’d recommend this to all!

So many great recipes I have book marked. I cannot wait to try and show off to with my friends! Of course the first I made were the chunk shortbread and they were B E A U T I F U L. Also can we talk about the beautiful photography in this book? Love it! (It was a gift I gave myself)

I’ve been following Alison on Instagram for a few years, always looked forward to her recipe creations in Bon Appetit. So getting a full cookbook with all of her orginal recipes is beyond amazing. It does not disappoint. Love love love. Highly recommend.

The most delicious and cookable cookbook I’ve read in a very long time. The flavors are always complex and perfect, and I can always find the exact recipe I want for any occasion. And the chocolate chunk shortbread is bananas good.

Seriously, you have sumac in your kitchen? The book was fine, but I hoped that it would have things you usually have in your pantry...and sumac isn't one of them. Also I had hoped for more of a dialogue regarding food. This book just didn't ring a bell with me, although others might enjoy it.
