I've read almost everything by kate and have loved every story! This was no exception! I'm not really into M/M but I was intrigued about learning more about Owen. And if Wes gets his turn at a book ill happily read that one too! This was a great read! I enjoyed every minute of it.

You’d think Kate Canterbury had been writing M/M books forever. I have HIGH expectations for Kate’s books because they’ve always been amazing and are for me constant rereads. This book was everything. Sweet and sexy and funny. Loved it!!!

I love Kate Canterbary and regardless of the sexual orientation she writes wonderful romance. This is a lighter read than most of her stories, with less damaged characters, but it is filled with charm.

As always Kate delivers an amazing love story! She has a way with words and creates characters I see myself hanging out with if they were real people. As always a masterful mix of love, sass, a tug at the heartstrings, shenanigans and a HEA. I enjoyed Owen and Cole's story and can't wait for the next book!

Like so many readers out there, I have an incredibly long TBR and a whole heap of one-click authors ... and I tell myself that I won’t add any more ... and I yet again I broke that promise ... but OMG I am so glad I did. Kate Canterbary is an author so many of my book buddies - and other authors I love - have raved about and I kept saying I would get around to reading her books. An opportunity came up to read her most recent release, Fresh Catch, and so I thought why not?!? And I’m so very very glad I did.

When I discovered this was an mm romance I was thrilled - since this is one of my all time favourite tropes. And the story of Silicon Valley billionaire Cole and lobster farmer Owen is nothing short of fabulous. Despite their differences, at the heart of this story is two guys who are desperate for love and yet neither feel deserving. Kate weaves a story that not only highlights some important social issues ...

"Eventually, there'd be a time when we led with curiosity rather than assumptions about sexual identity, race, faith, ability…all of it."

but also brings to life to absolutely gorgeous characters in Cole and Owen - two men who you feel like good friends by the time you are done with the story. Their quirks are loveable, their personalities authentic and the the love that blossoms is one that is such a joy to watch. Add to this a small town with characters you won’t to know more about (and thankfully we will get to know more about Annette and Jackson at the end of the month!!) and Fresh Catch is one story that I’m sure to read again. I also have to mention the chapter titles and definitions because these totally helped to make the story ... plus who knew so many boating terms could have such great innuendo.

Well it’s safe to say I’ve found myself another one click author - and I’m off to binge read ALL the books because I just cannot get enough of Kate Canterbary!!!

According to Phoebe from Friends, ‘lobsters mate for life,’ and while scientific research doesn’t support her declaration, the essence of what Phoebe is saying is applicable to finding one’s soul mate…the one person destined to fit that person in ways that no one else can.

And while Owen Bartlett, a lobsterman, clearly understands the crustaceans that he catches, he can’t help but think and perhaps even hope that there’s some significance to Phoebe’s view because when Cole McClish’s boat drifts into Owen’s cove, his solitary existence is upended, and he finds himself wondering if the man who contrasts him in almost every way can be the one who stays and allows his tender heart to freely love in a way that has never been possible.

Kate Canterbury does a great job of illustrating Owen and Cole’s differences, showcasing what makes each man who he is and the reasons behind their differing demeanors. But while Owen and Cole clearly come from different backgrounds, different cultures, and different worlds, their contrary attributes actually complement one another and allow their ‘true’ selves to be exposed and explored in tangible ways.

I appreciated the fact that Canterbury provides readers with both heroes’ perspective. Hearing Owen and Cole’s mental musings and understanding how they feel allows a well-rounded view of these two dynamic men and the reasons they held themselves back from each other until they couldn’t resist any longer.

Throughout Owen and Cole’s story, readers witness their individual journeys as well as the steps they take to become something more than a Summer Fling or a one-night stand. It’s clear that both men have deep feelings for the other and as those feelings develop, the risks grow as well, so much so that I was worried Cole’s ‘truth’ would ruin everything between them, even though he has been the version of himself he has always wanted to be in the time he’s been with Owen.

I’ll be the first to admit that by the end of Fresh Catch, I was suffering from both the #Talbott’sCoveEffect and the #ColeMcClishEffect. The setting is just as pivotal as the two men whose lives fill the pages of the book because it’s that peaceful and serene lifestyle that helps Cole realize how he should be living his life and who he should have beside him to calm his brain and show him that there is more to life than computers and coding.

This was my first read by Kate Canterbury, but it definitely will not be my last; I truly enjoyed her storytelling, the way she characterized Cole and Owen to fit in the worlds in which they lived, and the slow progress Cole and Owen made at becoming each other’s lobster. I do have to admit, though, that the ending felt a little bit rushed and I didn’t get quite the comprehensive resolution that I was looking for when it came to Cole’s truth being exposed and the repercussions of those actions, but that little blimp didn’t detract from my enjoyment of Fresh Catch, and I would love to head back to Talbott’s Cove some time!

What I always love about Kate Canterbary’s books is that she always gives readers a romance with heart. Even when we get to the steamier scenes, we still can feel the love and care between the two characters, and it makes me fall in love with her characters and stories every single time.

Owen and Cole are seemingly opposites in every capacity. Owen is a man who lives in relative isolation and spends his days catching lobster and preserving the cove and his nights on the porch with a book. Cole is the famous face of a tech company looking to escape. When these two are together, though, they are perfect for each other. They bring out the best. Cole is able to think freely and get back the innovation he has been lacking, almost garnering inspiration from his love with Owen. He isn’t the only one to change. Owen, this gruff and seemingly abrasive man, reveals his soft side when he is with Cole! I just adored seeing them together, and the way they loved each other, emotionally and physically, warmed my soul.

Most of the Kate Canterbary novels I have read have been relatively slow burns, but Fresh Catch picks up steam rather quickly, and the attraction from the moment they meet charges the air around them. I honestly was consumed by their relationship and the way they care for another. I felt like I had to savor every moment between them because the book would end all too soon. What I wish I would have gotten is maybe a bit more of them as individuals. I love them together and enjoyed them as individuals, but I connect with them as a couple versus individual characters. The conflict also comes late and is resolved quickly, but for the conflict selected, the resolution matches the story and the characterization created. I absolutely adored the ending. Owen’s made my heart all weepy and happy.

Fresh Catch is another fantastic read. With impeccable writing, fantastic characters, and romance filled wiith equal parts steam and heart, Kate Canterbary continues to wow me.

“Summer love wasn’t for me, and neither was this man. He wasn’t here to stay, and he wasn’t here for me.”

Owen, the generous working class man, has never had a romance last beyond summer & is afraid to wish for more only to be disappointed again. Cole, the ridiculously successful businessman, feels nobody wants to be be bothered to see beneath the surface to the real him. Each man has his own insecurities, unsure of the next move that might reveal too much. When theses two vulnerable men from very different worlds stumble upon each other, they both find the piece of their lives they didn’t know they were missing.

Let me start by saying, I wasn’t sure I wanted to read this book. Not that I had any qualms about the authors writing abilities. On the contrary, Kate Canterbary is one of my favorite authors. No, I was hesitant because this is a M/M book and just not my thing- I couldn’t relate. Wow, was I wrong! Yes, the M/M sex is explosively hot, but their relationship is not written to just be trendy & titillating. It’s smart and funny with page after page of snappy & emotional dialogue. When all is said and done, I’m so glad I took the leap of faith to read this book! I was moved by this wonderfully endearing couple and their love for each other is what make this an unforgettable romance!

After hearing so many positive things about Kate Canterbary's writing and hearing she had a M/M novel releasing, I decided to finally give her a shot and I'm so glad I did! Fresh Catch is a standalone novel, but from what I've seen in other reviews Owen makes an appearance in another of Kate's books. This reads perfectly by itself.

Owen lives a solitary life in Maine. He has a routine with his lobster fishing, lighthouse caretaking, reading, and social life. He likes everything to be in perfect order. Everything gets shifted however, when Cole's boat practically crash lands into the cove Owen calls home.

Cole is the CEO of a multi-billion dollar tech firm. After being ousted from the head position, he takes time for himself and that's when he sails into the Cove. He is immediately attracted to Owen, but has his own baggage to deal with before he can let him in his life freely.

I really enjoyed this book! Owen and Cole had a great friendship and further relationship. I'd consider Fresh Catch a slow burn for sure. They each had feelings for each other, but coming out to one another wasn't necessarily the easiest part. Reading through the development of Owen and Cole's relationship was truly entertaining and I can see myself reading more from Kate in the future.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was in the middle of another book when I received my emailed ARC. This other book was borrowed from the library and I was running out of time to finish it but I just couldn’t wait any longer to read Kate’s latest. I absolutely LOVE Kate Canterbary’s work........all of it!! Her writing is amazing, funny, emotional, sexy, etc.

I haven’t read too many M/M books but again it doesn’t matter what she writes, it’s definitely worth the read!! Cole and Owen are from different worlds. They collide one night and there was no turning back.

Owen seems so tough. He’s got such a hard exterior but underneath it all is a very sweet man. He’s nice enough to take Cole in. Cole seems almost ditzy at first. He’s been through a lot and he’s trying to take a very need break from his real life. When he arrives in Talbots Cove he’s obviously having a hard time and as much as Owen may not want to help he just doesn’t have the heart to turn this wonderful piece of eye candy away.

Their whirlwind romance is amazing, everything they both want until it comes to a crashing halt. Can Owen overlook everything? Will Cole fight for his man?

Such a sweet and sexy story!!

This book was an emotional roller coaster for me - but in a way that I didn’t want to get off the ride! Cole and Owen are both a little broken and both need just the right push to get them where they want to be. Luckily, they provided that push for each other.

Cole has given up all hope of any kind of real relationship - to the point of even giving up hook-ups - because he thinks everyone just wants him for his money and power.

Owen hasn’t had any luck with guys falling for him - he’s fallen for plenty, but the love never comes back to him. At one point in the story, he’s describing how he thinks it could be to fall for Cole, but he holds back because he knows it won’t ever last:

I’d laugh. Smile. Maybe even blush. I’d bend to Cole’s light like a tulip to the sun, and for a few blessed moments, everything would be perfect.

I was so sad when this book was over because I just wanted more and more of Cole & Owen. They really stole my heart and I’m thinking about letting them keep it because they mean so much!

**** I voluntarily read a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***

Owen Bartlett had settled in for a solitary life. Content with his choices and happy in his refuge, he never expected for the love of his life to come crashing in and change everything he knows.

Cole McLish, for the first time in his life, has no direction both metaphorically and literally. On a forced sabbatical, Cole finds himself adrift and completely lost at sea. The brusque lobsterman rescues him in more than one way.

I don't normally read M/M romances, but for this author I'm happy to have taken the leap. Her narrative is very descriptive and quite captivating. Her ability to bring characters and storylines to life is truly a gift. I applaud her ability to maintain the varied perspectives of both characters.

I loved Owen's guarded personality and witnessing it slowly fade away into a loving and compassionate man. Cole's insecurity and his braininess are quite the combination though no less endearing.

Please do yourself a favor and read this book. It's indirectly connected to the Walsh series and can be read as a standalone.

voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fresh Catch is one of those stories that is unexpected. This is the first MM book I’ve ever read. I knew that I had to read it. Anything Kate writes attaches itself to my heart.

Owen and Cole’s relationship happens by chance. Almost like their love story was destined to happen. It isn’t easy at first, as the two try to figure each other out. But neither of them can deny that connection that they have. They have that passion and that yearning for something more. Cole may have run from something, but he landed into the arms of the man that was meant for him.

Even though I didn’t emotionally connect with the characters. I felt that the story was strong on its own. Owen’s growly character matches Cole’s over talkative nature. It tugged at my heartstrings, and I was happy for them. I think I’ve said this before, but I believe Kate has a fantastic talent. I’ve loved every story that she’s created.

Overall, I give this Five Boundless Stars.

Quickshot Review
I really enjoyed this tale of curmudgeonly love between Owen, crusty fisherman and Cole, internet royalty and hottie nerd.
The biggest strength of this story is the buildup, the undeniable sexual tension between Cole and Owen that culminates in some spectacular love scenes. I mean, the sex is fantastic and does not shy away from the descriptive, but the emotional ties between Cole and Owen before they give in, truly gives their sexy times that extra oomph that made me squirm in the best of ways.

If I have a critique of the story, it’s the internal “big” obstacle was very mild, and other than sexual tension, there wasn’t alot of tension in the story overall. I did think the climax came late, and was resolved very quickly and easily. But having said that, I wasn’t really mad at it, it fit these relatively low key characters and their relationship.

If you’re in the mood for a solid, character-driven romance with a crusty lobsterman and his geeky hot tech love, I highly recommend this.

This couple was a perfect example of opposites attract. First we have Owen who is a grumpy, simplistic, anti-social lobsterman who enjoys being alone. Then we have Cole who use to be the CEO of his billionaire business but has recently been given a lesser title because of his short temper. He was also given vacation time in hopes it would settle him down, but all he has accomplished is getting lost at sea. He's also managed to injure himself in the process. Luckily he got himself lost in Owen's cove and is rescued by him not too long after his boat loses all electrical functioning.

So the rich man and the common man who have very little in common steam up the pages and the sheets with their chemistry. They give great banter which had me smiling a lot. It was an enjoyable short read by a NTMA that I hope writes more MM because I really liked her writing style.

If your looking for a short read that's low on angst I recommend picking this one up.

Happy reading dolls! xx

Cole was running or sailing I guess. Trying to outrun a bad streak of business, bad publicity and the fact he's been relieved of CEO duties from his own business. Hoping to regroup and recharge, he sets sail for some clarity. Only to find himself once again floundering and having to be rescued.

Owen lives a quiet and simple life as a lobsterman. He enjoys this life. Even sees himself as overseer of this little part of the water and lighthouse. Until someone trespasses and has the be rescued.

Owen and Cole feel an electricity immediately. Both want to pursue the pull but are hesitant, both suffer from their attraction until a bit of teasing pushes the two together.

One man used to living a public and expensive lifestyle and one man a very private and simple life. Can two worlds collide and survive?

Loved these characters and how they circled until they couldn't hold back. Both willing to bend for the other. Well written and interesting storyline.

Kate Canterbury has done it again. She has made you fall completely and totally in love with two very different characters.
Owen is a grumpy lobster fisherman who doesn’t like company and doesn’t do serious relationships, ever. Cole is Silicon Valley royalty on a forced sailing vacation when his sail boat has problems and he floats into Owen’s very private cove. Owen, having no idea who Cole is takes him in and his quiet solitary life is turned upside down by the constantly questioning Cole. What ensues is a reluctant friendship (on Owens part) that developes into more when sparks between them can no longer be denied.
Owen thinks he’s just Cole’s summer fling and Cole is scared of what will happen when Owen finds out who he really is.

This is my first M/M romance and I so glad I read it. Kate Canterbary has written such a real and moving love story that can’t you help but root for Owen and Cole and hope they overcome everything and grab and hold onto the real love they have found in each other.

This book has just given me ALL. THE. FEELS! Kate, in her infinite wisdom, has given us readers a brand-new standalone. It’s just that-a standalone separate from The Walshery. You can go in without knowing any backstory. Sidenote: Owen and Cole first appeared in a short story anthology that’s no longer published but this story, the full story, is just so much more! Here we meet Owen and Cole. Two guys who aren’t looking for forever but it seems to have found them anyway. While there is a bit of insta-lust (and who doesn’t love some insta-lust?) it’s right and totally appropriate for this couple.

Can we have a bit of real talk for a minute? I love Kate for the depth she gives to her characters and these two guys are no exception! Yes, they are gay but that doesn’t define the totality of who they are. They are multi-faceted and it’s just a glorious thing to behold.

If you’ve made it this far, let me implore you-READ THIS. Take it all in. I promise you. It’s worth it

I read the anthology version of this book awhile ago and loved it, but this was so freaking amazing. I didn't think that I could fall more in love with Cole and Owen then I had before, but Kate has done it again. I hated ever moment that I had to put this book down to "adult" but found myself captivated and the characters never very far from my mind.

When Cole comes crashing into Owen's life things turn upside-down and right-side up in the most perfect way. These two have this amazing chemistry and this book is full of angst and Kate's signature wit that makes this book so, so, so good. Cole and Owen push each other to be better versions of themselves just like love should. Oh and you will most definitely fall completely in love with the people in the town, especially the bookstore owner.

Find out who these two fall in love and how Cole's secret will affect their happily ever after.

I was fortunate enough to read the short story of Owen and Cole and at the time I loved it and had no idea who wrote it. I eventually learned that it was Kate and could definitely see her writing style in that story. I’m very happy to be able to read the full book story of Owen and Cole.

This story was a fairly simple, straight-forward romance. That is in no way an insult to this book. This story was so well written it didn’t need a hook, a mystery, or a tragedy to make it good. Cole and Owen were both a little “lost at sea” when they met. Owen had given up on love and was a salty old grump. Cole was a high-strung, stressed out former CEO. Through some seriously steamy love scenes they build a relationship and during that time they both change for the better.

Great book that I really enjoyed reading. Enjoy!

Passionate. Engaging. Sensual. Original. Candid . Easily describes Fresh Catch. This is one of those stories that you read once , twice and every time you do , you find yourself falling in love with it, a little bit more each time.
I liked Cole and Owen easy , natural and fluid friendship, courtship and relationship . It was refreshing reading a book that is low in angst and doesn't have gratuitous drama . And when the proverbial conflict in their relationship arose , it was resolved in an adult , respectful and believable way.

This was my first M/M story and also my first book by Kate Canterbary and I couldn't be happier .

This was my first book by Kate Canterbary. I decided to give it a go based on a recommendation from Lucy Lennox and I am so glad I did. I adored Owen and Cole and their story was exactly what I've been looking for. I love m/m and will read them exclusively if I have the chance, but I'll be going back through to read Kate's other works. The story flowed flawlessly and I couldn't help falling in love with Owen. I love the setting of a quiet Maine town and how Cole felt right at home there. In spite of the life he led thus far he embraced where he was and I loved his character that much more for it. Together they were explosive and so perfect. They complimented each other so well and I was holding my breath for their HEA!

This book was recommended through a book club and I was excited to dive in as this author is new to me. I enjoy the opposites trophe; that combined with being MM I had high hopes for this book and it did not disappoint! Cole McClish is a wealthy, internet businessman who is in a bit of a professional crosswords and he finds his way ito the small seaside cove of Owen Bartlett a moody, broody lobster fisherman who lives a solitary life in Talbott Cove. One ill fated sailing trip and Cole turns Owen's world on it's ear. Kate's smart, sexy writing and detailed descriptions have you feeling the warm sun on your back and the smell of the sea and salt water in the air.

This was definitely a sweet read about two guys from drastically different backgrounds being thrown together randomly, only to find out they just might need each other to find happiness. I enjoyed watching these guys teach each other about their respective worlds, and the town was adorably small and quaint. Primary drama comes from Cole's true identity, but I felt that plot climax was rather anticlimactic since it came to a head and was resolved with very little issue. Other than that, I liked it.

There were things to like about the characters, and the general writing-grammar, style, and language were above average. The rambling interior monologues, and the cumbersome telling instead of showing of the story sapped it of both its energy and romance. It could have been delightful, but was, in fact, rather boring.

I always jump at the chance to read Kate Canterbary’s books, because she just has a fantastic storytelling voice and a way with words that keeps me interested in her stories. I’ll start this by saying I’m not a huge fan of MM romances, but I have read some great MM in the past and come to enjoy reading them from time to time. The banter between Cole and Owen was fun and entertaining. But the way the romance progressed between them left me feeling like it just wasn’t real. I just didn’t get the feels that I normally get when reading romances from this author. The Walsh family series, at least the first 5 books, were fantastic and had me feeling so much along with the characters. This one left me feeling nothing. Yes, the sex scenes were hot, but that was just it. It only felt like sex and nothing more even though we kept being told these two men were falling for each other. Books by Kate Canterbary used to mean guaranteed love and feelings that transposed onto me while reading. Now I’m starting to think she’s losing some of her magic in telling convincing love stories. But still, this was an okay read and I’m glad to have read it since it looks like there will be a future book with characters introduced in this book.

This beautifully written love story is one of Kate Canterbary’s best.
The Characters are developed with such care and consideration for their truths.

Kate fleshed Owen and Cole out on paper and then wrapped them in an intimate cocoon that made you feel voyeuristic while sharing their journey.

There are laughs, tears and moments of heartfelt awe as these two lost souls find each other.
Fan-freaking-tastic!

I have read EVERY book/story written by Kate Canterbary. So, I know that whenever I read a book by her, it will be written well, with funny, snarkey, well rounded, and loveable characters.

Fresh Catch is ALL of that and more. This book is more focused on Cole and Owen since there are fewer "background" characters, allowing the reader to spend more time getting to know them both as individuals, and as a couple.

As others have mentioned, this is a sweet and refreshing, albeit different type story. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I will now go back to reading mostly mediocre books, until the next Kate Canterbary tale is released <Sigh>. I can't wait!!!

I'm at times hesitant to reward works from authors I am not familiar with but, so glad I stumbled on Fresh catch. Authentic. That is my one-word summation of Ms. Canterbary's writing across all ten of her amazing published books. This book is beautiful and lyrical and laugh-out-loud funny. My words are completely inadequate to describe her stories. Start with Underneath It All and set aside some time to enjoy how authentically she tells a story about people and places. You can read this book as a standalone, but after reading it, you will want to go enjoy all of her books.

I feel like Kate Canterbary's writing gets better and better-and it's gorgeous in this book. The weaving of nature, sex and desire, the descriptions of Talbots's Cove, the subtle growth and arc of Cole and Owen. This book was hot of course (no one writes sex better than Kate) but it also had a lovely, cozy gentleness that I adored. Felt like a took a trip to Maine and came back refreshed.

Kate did it again! Fresh Catch was a “refreshing” love story in a genre that can get a little monotonous. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE romance, but the story lines can get a little old. There’s just something about a man that works with his hands…Owen had it all! He was strong, sweet, and a growly romantic to the core. You could totally see Cole through Kate’s writing. He was the perfect nerdy, self conscious, yet crazy brilliant man. Together they were wonderful and made for an enjoyable, entertaining, sexy, passionate read!
