Loved it!!! Didn't disappoint. Very inventive. Gives a new twist to good and evil. From the beginning it sucks you right in and keeps you on the edge of your seat, guessing what is going to happen next and when the boon is going to drop. Highly recommend for adults and teens alike.

I love Frost's books and really wanted/expected to love this too, but I don't.

The story is original and interesting, but. I never fell for the characters like I did with Cat and Bones.

Ivy is blah. For starters she is too young and she says led a sheltered life until just weeks before the book opened. So crossing her age with her sudden worldly view didn't work for me. Nor did the fact that Adrian was portrayed as so much older. The two of them just never clicked for me and that is hard to say because there were points in the Night Huntress series where I was devastated by events between Cat and Bones. In many ways this book read more like a young adult novel.

I also felt like the writing seemed cliche and forced at times. Example: "He was danger wrapped in secrets tied with a bow of bad intentions ..." p. 71. In other areas it didn't read smoothly, rather like it was rushed or poorly edited.

It really does bother me to say all this as I really love the Night Huntress series.

I am hoping the next book in that storyline (Vlad) erases the bad taste this one has left.

I love everything Jeaniene writes. She's an amazing author, and when I looked at the one star reviews I was aghast. I've been reading Jeaniene from the age of 12 to I'm now almost 21, and she's still my all time favorite author. This story is just another example of why I love her! A must read :D

I devoured every Night Huntress book, read them at least twice, have a few on Audible. This new series lacks the excitement and fun of that series. There are essentially two characters, Ivy, who is plucky and loves her sister, but whines a lot. And Adrian, who broods. One is the last descendant of David, the other of Judas, and for some reason this creates real tension....Not! Ivy is no Cat, and Adrian is definitely not Bones. There is a super angel guy who pops in and out, wearing a blue hoodie, and says cryptic things while performing the occasional minor miracle but he doesn't bring a lot to the party anyway. In the Night Huntress novels, Jeaniene Frost gave us intriguing characters who were sexy, dangerous, deadly, smart, charismatic, and, did I mention, SEXY. In The Beautiful Ashes, not so much. She does a vague God is such meanie thing, but she doesn't have her heart in it. I may read the next because I know Ms Frost can write books I cannot put down. This is not one of them.

Despite what the summary said about this book, it was one that I couldn't put down from the start. Frost does it again! This is not like the other angel/demon books that are hitting the presses right now. I can't wait for the next one!
