A great story about love and chaos. You will fall in love with the characters instantly, Mencheres is a hotty. If you haven't read Jeanine Frosts other books I highly recommend reading the other books in her Night Huntress series.

I enjoyed this very much. Well written and great interplay with old world characters and modern world phraseology. The characters have great sardonic wit. & have me laughing out loud and repeating the quips to friends

This is yet another brilliant story in the series. Admittedly, I have had to buy and read it out of order due to difficulties finding her books in my local stores, but I look forward to buying more of her e-books for my kindle.
Destined for an Early Grave - Night Huntress - Book 4 :: One Foot in the Grave: A Night Huntress Novel :: Up From the Grave: A Night Huntress Novel :: Book 1 - First Drop of Crimson - Night Huntress World :: The Beautiful Ashes (A Broken Destiny Novel Book 1)

I love Mencheres - he is such an awesome character. He finally got someone after that disastrous marriage to Patra; she was a full-blown evil nutter that's for sure! If you haven't read the Cat and Bones series - pick it up to fill in some of the blanks with this story - same with the Charles and Denise story. I liked the backstory and the friendship between him and Gorgon and Vlad and his parental love for Bones - the co-ruler/master of his line. Again - no spoilers - no synopsis here. I like this entire series - it has me staying up waaaaaaaaay late to read it. I have read an entire book in one day and it was completely worth it.

Until this installment of the Night Huntress mythos, Mencheres had been presented as an enigmatic figure that readers couldn't begin to understand. Alive since the 4th Dynasty, how could any modern mind relate to a Bronze Age Pharaoh turned vampire? Ms. Frost figured it out. Well done!

I never rate anything with the full amout of stars, there is always room for improvement. I found that, for the most part, this book held my attention. Even though the reason for it was explained, it did get a little slow when Kira was being held captive by Mencheres. Then picked up again once she was let out.
I liked the book, and I really like the series.

Hello Menchares, sexy pharoh Eros from Egypt! Of course the love story between Kira and Menchares was touching and very steamy. However, I did feel like it was a bit forced. I mean they practically fell in love at first sight. I can see why Jeaniene Frost would do this; Menchares was in a dangerous suicidal state and needed someone to save him immediately. Had he felt any lesser emotion to Kira it is questionable whether his salvation would have happened. As it is Jeaniene Frost was able to tie the Night Huntress storyline and the developing love story for Menchares flawlessly. I'm glad to see this character finally achieve a bit of happiness; after a thousand years he definitely deserved it.

Purchased: Bought on the store
What I Loved: I loved getting to know Mencheres even more in this book since he really never grew on me before this. I thought Kira was a great match for him because he needed someone strong/resilient. Overall, their story was really great to watch how it played out!
What I Liked: I really like how characters from other books appeared in this one. The stories tie together quite nicely. I really like getting lost in this world that Jeaniene has created.
Complaints: The pacing was a little off in sections but still a really good read!
Why I gave it a 3: This was a really good book but not quite as strong as the others in the series. That being said, you really should read it!
Who I would recommend it too: PNR readers (though I think I am the last to read it) and also UF readers because it is edgier than the typical PNR.

Kira is an amazing character. Maybe too perfect but one that a lot of women can relate to. She's hard working, loyal, compasionate, tough. When I say tough, I mean fearless, not so much action hero. I liked that. While Cat and Bones are a fun couple to read about, Cat always left me, shall I say it, "annoyed." Kira speaks out but is not a loud whiner, which, Cat tends to be. But no heroine would be great without a complicated hero and Mancheres is just that. He is "older than dirt" with a past of mistakes and heartache. What woman couldn't resist? There are some tender moments and funny ones too. Spoiler - I may even like to see more of Kira becoming a Guardian. That would lead to a nice new series.

First of all, I have always liked Mencheres. I never shared Cat's feelings of uneasy or "weirdness" around him. I really liked him from when he was introduced. I had also always felt that his impassiveness in even the most 'need emotion' (I guess you could put it that way) situation was just a ploy to not be taken for vulnerable. I always knew he had a good soul, heart, and vibe. Even when he admitted to erasing Cat's memory at sixteen, I knew that her power really wasn't the whole reason for it. So when I started into this book and got into his emotions, I was very satisfied that I was right and proved Cat wrong (Sorry Cat,still love you). Kira, I loved Kira. She was strong hearted and had good intentions and could break down those walls Mencheres had built in front of his emotions. She had always wanted to be a cop and was headstrong about what she wanted. Very strong girl. They are honestly perfect for each other, and not just because she could work her way into his heart like no other person could; she also got these "feeligns" and about what is going to happen.See? Perfect! Also, something that should have been obvious to me through the whole book was that Kira's name means "darkness", and what did Mencheres see coming his way? Darkness. I loved that twist. Just another reason they are perfect. This book is among the other AMAZING books of Jeaniene Frost's supernatural world, and I LOVED it. I would definitely recommend anyone to read this (but you need to read the first four Night Huntress Books first, and probably the first spin-off too). It is emotional, suspenseful, action-packed, and every time Mencheres thought of and welcomed his death I wanted to slap him and say "No! You are going to live, cut that out!"

This book was fabulous! I loved the heroine and though this book didn't have a lot of Cat and Bones in it, it gave the person a more deep perspective on the elusive Mencheres, which I have always been curious about ! All in all it was a very satisfying book.
