Loved the first two books by this author...after that she's been going downhill fast. Miss the humor, interesting dialogue, and characters she had in her earlier work.

This book is more in line with her last few, story moves slow, too many side characters introduced, not too much humor. Poor of a pass time book than one that will keep your interest or one that you'll want to read again and again.

What a sweet story. I love the Michigan roots.Murdoch's fudge. The gentleness of the people. The love story, caring, no motors, it is like Mackinaw Island. The puddle jumper plane. It is Northern Michigan. Gigi and martinis.Like Kid Rock says, life is good in northern Michigan, and Tracy, thank you for this story, Thank you for keeping the lights on up north.
I can hardly wait for Book 2. Weddings, babies, someone dies???

If you want a book with shallow thoughts and shallow people, this is the one for you. I couldn't get over the stereotypical male thoughts, and the lack of wanting intelligent in people who were supposed to be shrewd.
Underneath It All (The Walsh Series Book 1) :: It Happened One Wedding (FBI/US Attorney Book 5) :: Sway (Landry Family Series Book 1) :: Falling for You (A Bradford Sisters Romance Book #2) :: About That Night (FBI/US Attorney Book 3)

I looked forward to Tracy Brogan's last book but was very disappointed. I think I have read almost all of her books. This story was not believable and I kept putting the book down because it did not hold my attention

This was an enjoyable, easy read with some really funny scenes, plenty of family drama and dramatics and a cast of great characters. Emily and Ryan both have their flaws, but also some really good points as they stumble their way through this book, trying to keep up with all that’s going on with their families and trying to deny their attraction to each other. If you’re looking for an enjoyable escape with a hint of summer, then this definitely fits the bill.

I liked Emily. She’s had her ups and downs in life, but despite being forced into going home, she’s determined to show everyone that’s she’s been successful in her years away – even if it’s not entirely true. I liked her determination. Sure, she really doesn’t see the best in people at times, but she has her reasons, and I liked how easily she slipped back into island life. She may have escaped, but she’s not pretentious about it and there is a good heart buried beneath all her protective layers.

I wasn’t sure about Ryan at first. He’s a bit judgmental in the beginning, sizing everything up and finding it wanting, but he’s also under pressure and kind of insecure about himself. Once he relaxes, he turns out to be a pretty decent guy and I loved how supportive he was of Emily. They have good chemistry too, even if it takes them ages to finally do anything about it.

But this book is about so much more than the romance between these two. Emily’s family is full of serious characters – her grandmother and her feuds, her daughter and her matchmaking, her sisters and, well… you’ll find out. They’re all fun and more than a little eccentric, while Emily’s strained relationship with her father adds some deeper emotions to the mix. Then there’s the rest of the island – naked horse riders, gossiping beekeepers, diabolical old ladies and interesting work crews, to name just a few. This book is rarely dull and packed with humour, including one exceedingly memorable trip to the lake.

I do wish the plotline involving Ryan’s reason for being on the island had been given more time, though. Everything is shoved in really close to the end, and the resolution of pretty much everything in the final chapter felt too rushed and far too neat and tidy. After slowly teasing the feud and everything through the whole book, I was a little disappointed to have most of it happen off-page. That’s not the only thing I would have liked to have seen that’s not included either, like drunk puzzle night or the old geezers’ poker game.

So it’s not perfect, feeling more HFN than HEA, but it’s still a fun, enjoyable read packed with small town humor, family antics and charm. It’s also a great introduction to Trillium Bay and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for a return journey in the future.

Emily Chambers felt like a failure when she returned to her childhood home, on Wenniway Island. As far as anyone knew, though, Emily was a successful business woman, who came back to the Island to renovate her grandmother’s cottage. Emily’s grandmother was the only person who knew, that Emily couldn’t make ends meet, without borrowing money.

Ryan Taggert of Taggert Property Management Company traveled from California to Wenniway Island. He had a company project to complete, but he was also there to check on his father. Apparently, his father, who was the CEO of the company, was infatuated with a woman, more than half his age and was talking nonsense. After being on the island for a while, though, Ryan could understand his father’s attraction to it. Ryan liked the Island himself. He especially liked Emily Chambers. In fact, he couldn’t stop thinking about her. But, Emily was not a complication, which Ryan could afford. He had to stay focused, complete his project and get his father off the Island. But, life doesn’t always work out the way we plan it to. Sometimes it works out even better.

My Kind of You is a sweet story, so captivating that I stayed up late just to finish it. It’s a well-written humorous romantic tale, with likable characters and realistic dialogue. I loved it.

Thank you, Montlake Romance and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

I truly enjoy a Tracy Brogan book. Her writing is so easy to read, very real and she manages to always entertain while still drawing on your emotions. 'My Kind of You' once again nails that balance - she has provided a well written characters that are sweet and feisty and was a warm, romantic book which full of humour.

Emily lives with her daughter Chloe and flips houses for a living. Her newest project is more than she bargained for, so she packs herself and her daughter up and heads up to her hometown of Trillium Bay so Emily can remodel a house for her grandmother.

Stuck on the mainland because of a broken plane they meet Ryan Taggert, a businessman who is headed to Trillium Bay to discuss a business plan. After arriving on Trillium Bay, it's inevitable that Emily and Ryan will meet again on the island that's filled with quirky people, secrets and drunk puzzle nights!

It's a funny romance where the romance isn't lost among the steamy scenes like other books in this genre. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy a good honest romance with plenty of sassy banter. 5 stars. I look forward to more of this series.

Emily was returning home to Wenniway Island, the place where she grew up in northern Michigan. She had run away when she married her husband, Nick. She was now divorced, broke and a single mom. She had agreed to come back for the summer to help her grandmother, Gigi, remodel her rental cottage in exchange for a loan she had given her to help her make ends meet until her flip-house could be sold. She wasn't happy about returning under these circumstances but she really had no choice. Her 11 year old, Chloe, wasn't sure this was going to be a good summer, either.

Ryan Taggert had come to Wenniway Island because his brothers said he was seeing a gold digging Bimbo and Ryan had to put a stop to it before their dad did something stupid like marry the woman. When he arrived, he learned that things weren't exactly as they had seemed. Yes, his dad was dating a much younger woman, who happened to be Emily's sister, but she wasn't a gold digging Bimbo, after all. He was attracted to Emily and he also began to see Emily as something more than a possible fling. But his home was in Sacramento, CA and hers was in Texas. They were both only on the island for the summer. He also never did relationships. But, the more time he spent with her, the more he wanted to spend time with her. But there were secrets between them that could destroy any possible future they might have together. Was its possible to come clean and salvage their new relationship or would it be too fragile to survive the blast?

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and the pace seemed good. The secondary characters were fabulous, too. The sex scenes weren't descriptive, which I personally appreciated. There were a few f-bombs that felt unnecessary to the story, but that is a personal recommendation.

I was given an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

My Kind of You by Tracy Brogan
Review by Georgianna Simpson

My Kind of You by Tracy Brogan is a lovely contemporary romance story set on a small familiar, but fictional, island in Lake Huron and part of the state of Michigan.
The story begins with Emily Chambers (nee Callaghan) and her twelve-year old daughter, Chloe, who are stuck in a very small airport in Wawatam County waiting for a small plane to take them to Emily’s childhood home of Wenniway Island in Trillium Bay. While at said airport she meets the only other passenger also waiting for the same flight to the island, Ryan Taggert.
Through this cleverly written story, woven well with background stories, family situations, for both Emily and Ryan, we get to ‘know’ the characters and their stories.
Emily is traveling back home to renovate a rental cabin for her grandmother, as a favor for the loan of ten thousand dollars to help her out of a financial problem. Emily is a house flipper, she and her partner were moderately successful and living in San Antonio, Texas.
Ryan’s drama is that his brother sent him to this island to talk his father out of retiring. Ryan’s father is only fifty-nine and owns their large property management company. Ryan and his two brothers help run it successfully from California. It seems his father, a recent widower has fallen for a woman on Wenniway Island and is determined to leave the company to his sons to run while he lives on the island and/or travels.
Okay. That’s the basic setup. I don’t want to give too many details, those are best discovered by the cleverly woven dialog and thoughts author Tracy Brogan does such a marvelous job of writing.
Let me just say this story is very well written. It has witty and fun conversations, humorous almost ILOVELUCYlike scenes, a bit of heartbreak, small-town drama and stories and so very much more. It deals with love in its wondrous varieties and the situations that entails.
It’s a delightful and complicated plot with so much coming home and small-town life included. Pick up a nice glass of your favorite beverage, a couple of tissues (wouldn’t hurt) and settle in for a wonderful read! If you love romance, especially small-town style, this is for you.

A couple years ago, I discovered Tracy Brogan's books and really enjoyed the Bell Harbor series so I was excited when I saw she had a new series out! I ended up borrowing this book through the Kindle Owner's Lending Library and hoped I would enjoy it like I did the Bell Harbor series.

Emily Chambers (Callaghan) lives in San Antonio, Texas with her daughter Chloe and flips houses for a living. After receiving bad news that her newest project is more than she and her business partner, Jewel, bargained for, she and Chloe head up to her hometown of Trillium Bay, Michigan so Emily can remodel a house for her grandmother, Gigi and earn back some of the loan from Gigi. Emily's dad and two sisters still live on Wenniway Island, along with several other people from her childhood, including the rival Mahoney family.

Emily and Chloe are stuck on the mainland because of a broken plane when they meet Ryan Taggert, a businessman who is headed to Trillium Bay to discuss a business plan for a cottage with his father. After arriving on Trillium Bay, it's inevitable that Emily and Ryan will meet again on the island that's filled with quirky people, secrets that never stay secrets, and drunk puzzle nights!

It took me a little bit to get into the story since it starts a bit slow but after that, it felt similar to the writing style I remember in the Bell Harbor series. Tracy Brogan inserts plenty of witty comments and thoughts into her books and this one was no exception! The characters are funny and often find themselves in some of the strangest predicaments and the story is light-hearted. There is some good romance between Emily and Ryan which takes awhile to blossom but the anticipation also makes it more exciting to read about, I think.

As I was reading this book, I couldn't help but compare the descriptions of fictional Wenniway Island to Mackinac Island. Everything from the smells of fudge to the lack of cars to the access to Lakes Michigan and Huron and the five-mile bridge that connects them to the mainland. Imagine my excitement when I found out that Wenniway Island IS based on Mackinac Island! I visited Mackinac Island a number of years ago so it was fun for me to read about it in a story.

If you enjoyed reading the Bell Harbor series, you most likely will enjoy the first book in this new series as well. It was a fun, light-hearted romance that would be a good beach read. There were some instances of swearing but not enough to detract from the story (for anyone who is bothered by this). I liked this story and am looking forward to the next one!

Great books by a fantastic author. Tracy Brogan does not disappoint. This book is as much or more about small town America and what it is like to live with gossip, busybodies and just nosy people. It is also about the the warmth and love you feel when you go home and realizing it isn't all bad. Emily and Ryan are the icing on this cake. They are funny, whitty and just good people. One of my favorites is Chloe the 12 year old daughter to Emily who is wise beyond her years.

I look forward to the rest of this series about normal people who have struggles and aren't perfect people. I want to hear and learn more about Lilly, Tag, Chief, Tiny and Yoga Matt. This book had me laguhing and nearly brought me to tears.

Keep up the great work Ms. Brogan we can't wait for what is yet to come.

I recieved an ARC version of this book for an honest review.

I received My Kind of You from Montlake Romance via NetGalley for review.

This was my very first Tracy Brogan novel, and I loved it!
After reading this book, I decided to download it on Audible for listening.
The narrator was excellent, and really brought these wonderful words to life!

Wenniway Island is loosely based on Michigan's Mackinac Island.
Which had me falling in love with this story instantly!
I was lucky enough to spend a summer working on Mackinac Island,
so when the story talked about all the quaint things you come across while there,
(fudge, calling tourist fudgies LOL, horses, bikes, etc.) it took me right back to that summer!
The author did an excellent job setting the scene of the story, and developing characters that were easily likable right from the beginning. The bickering, and gossiping of the island folk had me snickering, and smiling big! While this island is fictional, so many aspects were relatable to that of Mackinac, and was just so much fun to read!

Emily and Ryan were sort of a slow burn relationship, which I thought matched the story perfectly.
It helped to really believe there was love growing between them!
Contemporary Romance readers will enjoy this one!
Now I'm off to find more Tracy Brogan stories, her writing is fantastic!

I loved "Crazy Little Things" from this author, so I was looking forward to this book, but I was really disappointed. Emily left her small Michigan island hometown years ago, and is now returning after being divorced, nearly broke, with her daughter in tow, to flip her grandmother's rental cottage. She meets Ryan at the po-dunk airport on the way and they're flirtatious, but this story literally went nowhere. There's no chemistry between these two, the small-town vibe got ridiculously overdone and honestly, I just didn't feel like there was any forward movement to this book. It took me days to slug through it to the point I was just skimming. Daughter Chloe was really the only interesting character for me. On to my next read.

After reading and enjoying Tracy Brogan's Bell Harbor series, I was a bit disappointed with this book. I'd give it a 2.5 if that were an option, but just don't feel it rates a 3. There were a couple of laugh aloud moments I truly enjoyed, but overall the romance fell flat. That's a fatal flaw for a romance book. There really wasn't any chemistry between the hero and heroine. I liked her character and could relate to much of what she was going through, but he struck me as a jerk and a boor from his introduction in the first chapter, and my opinion of him never really improved. The author repeatedly told us how physically attractive they found each other, but there didn't seem to be any other basis for their budding romance. I may eventually read the second book in this series when it comes out, just to see if some of the unresolved plot points are addressed. I won't hold my breath waiting for it though, and if I never notice when it is released, I won't feel I've missed anything.

This book begins in a little podunk airport with Emily and her 12 year old daughter, Chloe. Emily has found herself in financial distress and is going back to her hometown to remodel one of grandmother's cottages, her grandmother who has loaned her $10,000 to help out with Emily's financial crisis. She meets in the airport, a man named Ryan Taggert who is headed to the same place as she and her daughter. She finds him attractive and he finds her attractive as well but he keeps trying to concentrate on the task at hand which is getting his dad's, Tag, head out of the clouds and getting rid of the gold digging bimbo that seems to have captured his dad's heart. The gold digging bimbo just happens to be 26 to Tag's 59 and is also Emily's younger sister, Lily. To top it all off is that Emily's father, Harlan, is the sheriff of the town and he sees everything and he happens to be the same age as Tag. Nobody wants Harlan to know what is going on behind his back with his youngest daughter and this older man. Ryan and Emily decide to get together and try to break up Tag and Lily. In the process of trying to break up Tag and Lily, Emily and Ryan start seeing each other in a different light also while seeing that trying to break up Tag and Lily is becoming pointless.
In the beginning of the book, you get the feeling that Chloe is unhappy that she is going to be spending her entire summer on an island in the middle of nowhere but as the book progresses, you can see how she falls in love with the island, her new friends, and her family that she has not has much interaction with in the past. She is an awesome addition to the book.
Brogan has a real knack for writing situations that are realistic and extremely funny. Just wait until you read the horse scene...I was laughing so hard! I have read Crazy Little Thing, The Best Medicine, and Love me Sweet by Brogan. Crazy Little Things is my favorite by far...talk about laughing...hilarious! But this book is a close second!

Once again, TraceyBrogan, as one our hearts through laughter love and life in a small town. This time, trillion bay an island off of Michigan. The only transportation that exists draws you back in time to motorized vehicles don't exist. To someone like me who has access to public transportation, a car, a taxi. a train. It's hard to imagine. Not having anything but a horse and in the winter a sleigh or just your good old fashion feet to get you where you're going. A town where everyone knows everyone and everything. My mind wanders: what would it be to live in a town like that? Homemade pies made by your neighbor fudge that can be smelled all over the island. the grocer that picks the freshest fruits and vegetables Dimitri the beekeeper who only makes the best and purest honey.
Tracy invites you into this world as a girl "lost" goes home after years to try to try and mend her past only to create her future.

Loved, loved this book!!! Emily, single mom, broke has returned home for the summer to Trillium Bay to help flip a house. The last thing she was expecting to meet a man. Ryan arrives to Trillium Bay for family issues. They first meet in route to the island. They both have family issues and are only going to be there for a short time, why start something you can't finish. They soon can't fight their mutual attraction. But the island is small, everyone knows everyone's business, love it.

This book will have you laughing out loud, and you might even shed a few tears. Lots of family drama with both characters. Both characters are very likable. Oh so good. The typical small Michigan town that I loved vacationing in growing up, brought back so many memories. Small town homemade fudge, I could almost smell it myself. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book!!

Delightfully sexy and amazingly hilarious! Tracy Brogan has done it again!

I could not put this book down. Emily and Ryan's story is embroiled with their efforts to separate her younger sister from his sexagenarian father to no avail. Lily and Tag. She is twenty-six and he is in his sixties. Emily is concerned for her little sister and Ryan is worried his dad will do something he will regret later. Unexpectedly, love is in the air. Emily and Ryan better watch out!

The magic that is this little imaginary island of Wenniway Island comes alive as we meet the inhabitants with all their quirks and gossip. Feuds alight, fudge is in the air, and you will never spend a dull moment with this cast of characters.

I am reviewing this book voluntarily because if is absolutely fascinating. Thank you to the publisher for sharing a copy of this book with me.

I spent a summer working on Mackinac Island, which was the inspiration for Trillium Bay in My Kind of You. This was both fun, as I imagined the places that were mentioned in the book, and also a little distracting. I liked the storyline, and found the characters fun and interesting. I love second chance romance stories, and every one has that moment where the character questions whether or not to go for it. Tracy Brogan put it so well: "Maybe she was sacrificing a chance at something good just because there was a chance it might go bad." Take that chance!

I did feel like it ended a bit abruptly, like everything was wrapped up fairly quickly, and I would have been happier with a little more at the end. That being said, I do hope we get more from Trillium Bay in the future.

I liked the overall story line and the setting that was immediately identifiable as Macikinac Island, MI. Although I am not from Michigan, that island is definitely unique. What a magnificent location for the story. I loved the interplay between the local residents. The writing was exceptional with no obvious editing errors. Also exceptional was the eventual mending of fences between Emily and her father and the relationship between Emily and her daughter. The flaws of the leading characters and the way each recognized and overcame them made the whole story very believable. This was almost a five star book for me. But, even though vulgar language and immoral conduct is a common thread in society today, my personal taste is that endowing the protagonists with these traits actually diminishes their roles as people to be admired. Ergo, four stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have read a couple of books by Tracy Brogan before. I love writers that can write real characters! They seem like people you might know. The island community brought so many funny moments. Tracy writes with humor! I love that about her! I am all about the HEA, but I want some humor in my books too! The characters were very likeable. Emily & Ryan were meant to be from the moment they met in that airport! The daughter of Emily was so precious! And Mama owes her so much! I don't want to give away too much. This was a wonderful summer read. You can't go wrong taking this one along on vacation or a day at the beach!

This book has the terrific blend of humor and romance that is expected from Tracy Brogan. It made me outright laugh several times and even legit snort a few times too.
There are plenty of fun 'extras' in this book that make it even more enjoyable and human - they all bring the little town to life and make it a place everyone wishes they could visit IRL.
I don't give book report reviews, just wanna say that the writing was fresh, emotional and funny, the characters were likable and yet still flawed and the story brought as many feels as necessary to make me feel them right along with the characters, without forcing the emotional stuff on the reader.
I will admit I'll actually want to read this again sometime - something I don't usually do.

There were a few nice moments, but overall it was somewhat stressful to read. There were lots of characters lying to each other and too many quirky characters thrown in for humor that simply were not believable. The romance was slow and tedious and only got rolls about 80% into the book. Even then it was a PG tease that made me wonder why o should be interested. I'm sure there are those who like that level of conservative writing, but it just feels disingenuous to me. Having to deal with the stress of everyone's daily lives was tough enough that there just wasn't a good balance of the fantasy that look for in this type of book. If I want to deal with job, money, housing, and family drama, I will just put my book down. I have enough of that to deal with on my own.

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for my review. Emily Callaghan is finally coming home to Wenniway Island, after eloping many years ago with a man her family hated. She is returning with their twelve year old daughter, in hopes of making enough money to get back on her feet and back to the mainland, where she has a floundering career in flipping houses. On her way back home she meets Ryan Taggert, who is also headed to the island in hopes of stopping his father from getting involved with a much younger "gold digger." Emily and Ryan's paths keep crossing in unexpected ways, which lead to a fun and flirty romance.

Tracy Brogan write another wonderful romance set on a beautiful Michigan island. Emily is returning to her hometown of Trillium Bay with her daughter after a disastrous business mistake leaves her flat broke. Her grandmother hires her for the summer to remodel a rental cottage and gives them a place to live. I love the island setting and I'm excited that this is the first book in a new series. The town folk can spread gossip faster than wildfire and are thicker than thieves when it comes to butting into everyone's business. Can't wait to return to Trillium Bay for book 2.

My Kind of You tells the story of Emily Callaghan reluctantly returning to her hometown in northern Michigan with her 12 year old daughter to renovate her grandmother's rental property. Along the way, she meets the sexy Ryan Taggert, whose mission is to step in and save the family business from being tossed aside while his father has his fun with his new, much younger, girlfriend. Emily and Ryan have an undeniable attraction but soon find they have multiple things working against them. Will they make it, or won't they?

I gave this four stars instead of five because the ending felt rushed and under-developed; missing the action of the throw-down that the story had been building and eluding to throughout the entire book, and instead was neatly packaged with an everything-turned-out-ok bow. This was my only complaint. Outside of that, I loved the story, laughed out loud on several occasions, and got sucked in to many hours of reading and ignoring my kids/family/cleaning/cooking. I received an ARC and enjoyed every minute that I spent in Trillium Bay.

Witty banter, embarrassing moments, sweet encounters... this story has it all. Can't wait for the next installment.

Author, Tracy Brogan, has another hit on her hands with My Kind of You! It's a heartwarming, comedy romance that will leave you feeling good and wanting more. Tracy writes so you feel like you can actually see the scenes happening. My favorite laugh of this book is the horseback riding event--I was laughing so hard my 16 year-old daughter left the room! I could just visualize that scene in "real life"! It was hard to put down & I stayed up to 3 a.m. just to finish the book!

I really enjoyed this book by Tracy Brogan. Quite funny at times. I got the audio version and I was laughing my butt off from how the performer, Amy McFadden, did all of voices. This book was funny and cute. I loved the storyline and all the characters.

The reason I didn't give it five stars was the fact it started out being about 2 couples but throughout the book one couple faded away. You don't really get closer to Lilly and Tag and I wanted to hear more of how they ended up too.

All in all a good book.

This book was just an average romance read for me. It wasn't bad, just not a book I'll remember - I didn't particularly feel a connection with the characters. This book started off great. It was funny, and the supporting characters reminded me of Gilmore Girls. Unfortunately it fell flat and ended so quickly with the interesting storylines flapping in the breeze. The Tag/Lily relationship was gross(he is 30+ years older). The main characters had zero chemistry. If it weren't for the fun locals on the island I would have quit this book early on! Don't waste your time.

This book really is a page turner, Beach read, entertaining, funny, and very well written! I would have liked a few more pages at the end. It did not end suddenly, but I would have liked it, if the HEA was dragged out a just a little longer. All in all it was a verry good story and I can highly recommend this book!
