Untouchable Darkness is the second book of The Dark Ones Saga and picks off where it last left off from the first book so it is highly recommended that this series must be read in order. When I first read The Dark Ones, I was immediately drawn to Cassius and his relationship with Stephanie. As a reader, I was intrigued with their tangible bond to one another. And so in Untouchable Darkness, readers are magically spellbound as Cassius, the Dark One is turned into a human for thirty days and within these days, he must guide and help Stephanie with her powers and the revelations of her past.

“I wanted to claim her. Yet I worried she’d resent me. I wanted to help her. And at the same time a part of me was fearful of what she was capable of, even as I was fully aware of how weak I was.”

Cassius and Stephanie has this tangible bond that no one can explain. It is the kind of the bond that links them to each other. A bond where they both know deep within their souls that they are each other's missing piece and link to happiness. And as always, Ms. Van Dyken lures her readers with raw emotions as readers learn of Cassius past and the demons that stands in the way of Stephanie and the immortal beings. In the Untouchable Darkness, we are completely drawn into the world of immortal beings that consists of angels, werewolves, sirens, vampires, demons and The Dark Ones. While this book has a romance aspect, Ms. Van Dyken was still able to layer this book with a bit of suspense as we see a battle of darkness and light. Also, new revelations of Sariel, Cassius's father comes into light.

“The minute our lips touched, those brief seconds you saved me, touched me, joined with me. For those measly seconds—seconds of living a lifetime of a million lonely seconds—I was complete.”

I don't want to spoil the story for the readers but I will just say that Cassius and Stephanie will make your hearts flutter with their strong emotional and physical bond to one another. And Sariel will steal your heart with the gift that he gives Cassius. I adore this new genre that Rachel Van Dyken has written and created because she continues to awe her readers with heart, laughter, and a bit of intrigue. She continues to weave a story where we can't help but fall in love with each of the characters that she has created. I can't wait for Alex's story and his adventure in falling in love.

4 Light and Dark Stars

I love Rachel Van Dyken and I love The Dark Ones Saga. Untouchable Darkness is a standalone and is part of the The Dark Ones Saga.

This is Cassius’ story.

I loved the first book and Cassius super intrigued me. There was something about his tortured self that just pulled me towards him. You don’t have to read the first book to understand this one, but to get the full effect you should start the series from the beginning.

I love Cassius and Stephanie’s story because it’s so painful and tragic, but I love it when the Hero kind of watches after the Heroine for many years.

Cassius wasn’t painted in the best light in The Dark Ones and I feel like Untouchable Darkness really tries hard to help us understand who he is, where he came from and why he does what he does. I am not a fan of flashbacks, especially when the flashbacks deal with other characters, but I really enjoyed that part of the book. The flashbacks touch important parts of Cassius past and with his relationship with Sarial.

You get the previous characters, but the whole book reflects on Cassius and since he’s one of my favorites, I was in heaven.

Cassius and Stephanie’s relationship isn’t easy, but I love how open and exposed Cassius was. I loved that he was slightly weaker than Stephanie and he in some ways had to come to terms with his actions and choices.

Overall, if you are a Cassius fan, you will not be disappointed.

Untouchable Darkness reminds me why I love RVD books: her characters! The supporting characters have depth and personality that helps keep the story moving. It was easy to dislike Cassius in book 1 so getting to see more about him was interesting and you really do learn to love him. I love dual POV as well and for these books it is so important. You also get flashbacks into history to see events from Cassius' past.
The synopsis says it can be read as a stand alone but I disagree. You really have to read book 1 to understand the world that RVD has created here. Plus, the story starts where book 1 ended and you would be really confused about what was going on if you haven't read The Dark Ones. I loved the Dark Ones and Ethan/Genesis in particular. While I loved this book as well, I didn't love Cassius/Stephanie as much. I enjoyed them and liked them more throughout the book, but they just didn't compare to E and G for me.

This author can do no wrong. Untouchable Darkness is a sexy mix of humor and paranormal. Since this is book two of the series, I highly recommend you start with The Dark Ones. This book continues on with Cassius and Stephanie. Cassius has watched over and protected a Stephanie her whole life, so when she learned the truth of what she really is it puts her in a tailspin. Cassius is coming to terms with his feelings for Stephanie and the gift she gives him, has him doing things as he has never done or had to do before. It's quite hilarious for Alex and Mason to watch. Ethan is still worried and overprotective of his mate Genisis and is worried that Stephanie is not under control of her feelings and could cause her harm. Things are getting out of hand with the demons and Sarial needs help with keeping them under control, which leads him to ask the person you would least expect. It was great learning the beginning of a Dark zones and why they were created. It brought more perspective to who and why they are. I felt much more of a bond with Cassius after learning about his beginnings. oh boy can't wait for the next book because Alex's world is about to spin off it's axis.

There was one scene that Carrie Underwood's song "before he cheats' popped into my head especially while Stephanie and Cassius were in the car, “how dare you leave me!” She hit the accelerator causing me to slam back against the seat." Stephanie can be agreeable:
“Now that we’ve gotten all the technicalities out of the way.” I motioned to her ring. “I’m going to make love to you.”
“Okay.” Her eyes brightened.
“And then…” I brushed a kiss across her lips. “I’m going to do it again.”
Mason's book needs to be next he intrigued in both this book and the first he can be an ornery man but his reactions to fur boots were entertaining, “Ethan’s warm,” Mason barked. “Use him as a blanket, not these.” He snatched the boots and hugged them close to your chest." I enjoyed this book this group is like a group of misfits, each bring a characteristic and charm to the group and without one of them the group wouldn't be the same. I can't wait for the next book.

After reading The Dark Ones and absolutely falling in love, I couldn't wait to read the next book in the series. Untouchable Darkness picks up right where book one left off. While you still get scenes with Genesis, Ethan, Mason, and Alex, this book is the story of Cassius and Stephanie. In Untouchable Darkness, we get much more backstory on Sariel and Cassius. I was fascinated with their past, and that aspect of the story alone kept me hooked. Add to that tons of chemistry and tension between Cassius and Stephanie, and you have one highly addictive story. The main thing I loved about the premise of this book is that it perfectly exemplifies what selfless love should look like. Cassius gave up everything for a chance at loving Stephanie. It was inspiring and moving. That made non-human characters incredibly relatable. This book was full of romance, humor, and suspense. It had it all. I'm very excited to see where Rachel takes the series from here!

RVD crafted an amazing backstory in this paranormal story. The way in which everything tied together, how Cassius is who he is, the making of the entire race and history, it was all written so wonderfully that that alone made the book for me. It pieced everything together inviting me deeper into the story and created excitement for where the story will continue to go.

Cassius and Stephanie have a deeply strong connection, but it has always been forbidden to be together. He’s the Dark One, the King of Immortals, and she’s something he can never touch. They have a complicated history, though, and their feelings for each other have always muddled things. Especially with Stephanie recently finding out that what she thought she was has been a lie. But he’s now stripped bare with an impossible task, and it’s not only that; there are darker things headed their way.

I loved getting into Cassius’ head. He’s tortured and conflicted, but also wise and self-sacrificing. Their love for each other is both their downfall and their salvation. Things are gearing up, big time, and their love story is just a part of it. I can’t say much without giving things away, but the action and mystery were a slow burn that you couldn’t help but savor. I really cannot wait to see where this goes as I know there is so much more to come!

I am finding this paranormal series from Rachel Van Dyken to be incredibly unique and interesting. She always does such a wonderful job creating fascinating stories with equal amounts of romance, humor and intrigue. What I particularly like about this series is that she’s managed to mix in a wide variety of paranormal...vampires, angels, warewolves, siren and even demons into one captivating plotline.

Untouchable Darkness further explores when two Dark Ones, beings not permitted to mate, find love in one another. It was interesting, it was romantic and at time suspenseful. I especially enjoyed the chapters told from Cassius’ perspective. His past, his birth, his deepest desires reveals a man deeply in love plagued with major responsibility often exhausted especially having to live it alone for so many years. Seeing things through his eyes allows us to delve deeper into the relationships of this unconventional family, and what you find at the base is love.

This installment spends a lot of time exploring the fine line between good and evil, the balance of light and darkness and when the underlying plot development is revealed I have to admit it definitely made me want to start book 3 ASAP. Yes, this one ends on a happy for now moment, but I cannot wait to see what Rachel has in story for Alex and Mason not to mention the war on evil. These paranormal escapes are quickly becoming a favorite addiction of mine.

I love me some paranormal romance!!

I hadn't realized this was a book 2. This can be read as a "somewhat" standalone but I think reading the first would truly help.

Stephanie has always loved Cassius. She doesn't know what or who she is but knows her feeling towards Cassius but feel they are not requited.

Cassius starts this book with a punishment. He is to be human for thirty days and prove his love to Stephanie is real and true.

The chemistry between them is hot. Where there is ice; there is fire.

Cassius is determined to prove his love is true and help Stephanie understand who she truly is; all while maintaining order in their paranormal world.

This was a great read and I recommend this for all PNR lovers everywhere!

p.s. all supporting characters are great and I can't wait to read each of their stories.

I am having a serious love/hate relationship with Untouchable Darkness. On one hand I adored the book, but on the other hand...I hated Stephanie. Like hatred to the point where I wanted to stop reading at the end of the book because I was so angry and mad with her. I love Cassius and feel so much sympathy for him. He has, by far, had the most difficult life out of all the characters.

The whole gang is there this time around and the plot thickens and it looks like there is a war on the horizon. I love, love, love Mason and I felt so much for him during this book, especially the ending. The problem was for me with Stephanie and her fickle mind, I mean you have been after Cassius forever and then you make brash decisions...damn woman drove me crazy. The steamy, dreamy, passion helped make up for her faults. Can't wait to see what Alex has in store for him next!

Untouchable Darkness is the second book in Rachel Van Dyken's The Dark Ones Series.
UD picks up where the first book ends - After learning Stephanie is not a Siren that she was led to believe but a Dark One - half Angel, half human, she saves Cassius life by giving him her immortality. Once Cassius learns what she did for him, he calls on his father to return her immortality. His father, Archangel Sariel, "Thirty days of humanity — learn to love as a human does. If she loves you in return, truly loves you as you are and mates with you, I'll restore your immortality — and allow her hers."

Untouchable Darkness, with alternating POVs is the story of Cassius, now human, trying to win the love of Stephanie. We learn how an event in 79AD has shaped the manCassius is and it's effects on his relationship with Stephanie. We also get to see the softer, romantic side of Cassius.
“The minute our lips touched, those brief seconds you saved me, touched me, joined with me. For those measly seconds—seconds of living a lifetime of a million lonely seconds—I was complete.”

Does he get the girl and his immortality back? Get your copy today and find out!

Rachel Van Dyken is a brilliant writer! I do not know how she does it. Her storytelling just keeps getting better and better. Her characters are relatable and fun. And the way she weaves an underlying story is effortless. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I want to shout from the rooftops to everyone to "READ THIS SERIES"....
I'm hooked on Rachel's transition into the dark world of paranormal.
Cassius was gifted 30 days to make her love him and save the world in the process... Easy peasy right???
I love how I was transported into the Dark One's world. We get to walk in Cassius and Stephanie's shoes. Feel the emotional roller coaster their on as they struggle to save humanity.
The details and descriptions are so vivid that you really feel as though you're in their world.
I highly recommend this series to every single book friend I have. I've yet to meet a Rachel Van Dyken book that I haven't loved from the start.
If you love your men growly and your women spicy then this is the series for you.

So first I must apologize to miss Rachel van Dyken I was very leery about this book. I was not very interested in cassius in the last book and I honestly didn't know if I wanted him to have any type of happily ever after there were definitely other stories I would have liked to hear first. But once again she completely impressed me with his story and made me totally love cassius by the end. I know better than to doubt miss Rachel van Dyken but sometimes we get caught up in the characters and we forget the genius behind them. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone it is an awesome read in my opinion it's totally 5 stars,I can not wait for the next in the series. So what are you waiting for totally go one click it the moment you can.

Untouchable Darkness is the standalone sequel in to The Dark Ones. Untouchable Darkness is the story of Cassius and Stephanie. Cassius has been stripped of his immortality and turned human. With the daemon numbers growing and the clock ticking the two must come together to face the light and the darkness. Love, family and a past will be revealed that could bring these two together or tare them apart. The chemistry between Cassius and Stephanie is beyond hot and some classic lines from Alex and Mason are perfect for comic relief. I’m a huge fan of this series and love Rachel’s writing. Untouchable Darkness is a must read for everyone, you will not be disappointed!
I cannot wait for more from this amazing series and very gifted author.

Cassius.... Can you say swoon?! I was gifted this book for an honest review and I cannot tell you how I have been enjoying this series. I am not one who actively reads a paranormal book, but when Rachel began to write one, I gave it a try and I was hooked!!

We continue to learn more about Cassius and Stephanie and as their love continues and you won't be able to put this story down. I will not provide any spoilers, but you learn so much from their past and how they came to the place where they are today.

Other characters from book one are included and I am anxiously waiting to continue this journey and read more from Alex's POV and hope for a resolution to their conflict. ''''''

The series just keeps getting even more amazing. The twists and plots and heartache and struggles these characters have to deal with had me turning the pages obsessively!
I'll admit that I stopped reading when I got to 92%, because I just couldn't deal with the fact that it was almost over.
Angels, Vampires, Sirens, Werewolves, Demons....this story had it all, and while I love the variety, Cassius's story had me lost in his world-- wanting more, needing more, craving his world something fierce.
I'm so anxious to have Untouchable Seduction in my greedy little hands! But I guess we can focus on this release first ;)
As always, Rachel, you killed it with yet another addicting story!

The love and connection, not only between Cassius and Stephanie, but with the whole misfit gang is undeniable. I love them all.
The laugh out loud moments we always get by Mrs VD in her books has me in stitches... even in the mists of a serious scene. These characters are brilliant and I can't wait for more. I NEED Masons story yesterday. I LOVE him!! Anther great read!!!

Cassius has a huge task to accomplish. He doesn't know how he's going to do it though. Being human is a lot harder than he was expecting. Can he do what he needs to do?

She has the ability to write and suck you into the story, you stay up to read it (laughing and crying quietly in your pillows). With Untouchable Darkness, she does it again. Cassius and Stephanie's story has twist and turns, you laugh and you cry. Rachel makes you love, hate and feel sympathetic all at the same time.

Untouchable Darkness is the 2nd book to The Dark Ones Series. This book was a great read. Made my heart break for both of the characters. Stephanie is trying to find her true place among the group as a Dark One and Cassius is only trying to help her along the way the best way he knows how, but with a price. Cassius' father has given him 30 days to prove that Stephanie can love him as he is. I don't want to give any spoilers in this review. So all you need to know that it was a great book! Rachel has never disappointed me in anything that I have read of hers. Please read The Dark Ones first before reading this book.

Rachel Van Dyken entices with her world of the Dark Ones, and in her latest installment of Untouchable Darkness, delves into the dark, violent, and poignant world of the King of Immortals - Cassius.

With thirty days to win over the heart of Stephanie and teach her all he can about being a Dark One, Cassius knows his chances of succeeding are slim. His human emotions constantly outweigh his logic and his passions consume his intellect. When a sinister darkness rises and threatens the world of the immortals, it is more important then ever for Cassius to gain control of his new, human body, and teach Stephanie to master her own abilities. But will her mastery also bring his death?

Dark & sexy, I really liked Untouchable Darkness, and was left craving more of this world of Dark Ones. Cassius was such a great character. I was intrigued by his shadowy, brooding, and frigid attitude in the first book, Dark Ones, and was so glad when I realized the next book would be his story. His is story forged in fire and I couldn't help but feel for him and his experiences. When he sacrifices his immortality to save Stephanie, we see a new side of Cassius. His protective, take-charge attitude endeared me to him all the more, just as his naivety did when it came to all things romantic.

With Stephanie, however, I spent most of the book irritated with her every thought and action. Raised as a Siren and being in love with Cassius for as long as she can remember, you would think she would be receptive of Cassius' new attitude and clarity in feelings. That was not the case though. Stephanie was too busy living in the hurts of the past to see the potential happiness for the future. The tension between Cassius and Stephanie eventually reaches the boiling point though and Stephanie has to decide to either put her trust in Cassius and risk being hurt again, or letting him go forever.

The group dynamics between the ruling body of immortals is entertaining as always in Untouchable Darkness. Each of the Cassius and Stephanie's fellow house-mates and friends are intriguing, and I love the witty dialogue between them all. The world building of the Dark Ones is phenomenal and I am so looking forward to see where Rachel Van Dyken takes readers (and Alex) next!

This is one book that I've been highly anticipating and was so excited to read after The Dark Ones. Having met all the characters and falling in love with them at once made me want to read more and find out their own happily-ever-after stories. Actually it was Cassius who captured my attention in The Dark Ones. I was hoping it was him who would be mated to Genesis. But with every page I turned, I realized Genesis was really meant for Ethan and it was a match. I could definitely say it's made in heaven. I love Ethan, and Genesis fits him perfectly.

Knowing Cassius in The Dark Ones and who he was in love with, made me anxious to find out what will happen to him and Stephanie in this book. I was so lucky not to wait that long when I received an ARC of this wonderful book. And it was exactly the story I was hoping for.

I love how Rachel developed the relationship between Cassius and Stephanie. A relationship that started when Stephanie was born. Cassius doing everything to protect her until finally developing into something more. It was one that shouldn't have happened because both were immortals. Both were Dark Ones. Immortals were supposedly only mated with humans. But hey, we can't teach our heart whom to love. What the heart wants, the heart should get.

It wasn't easy at first because both were struggling to keep their feelings for each from being revealed. They were loving each other from a distance. But it took nearly loosing Stephanie that made Cassius decide to give up his immortality for 30 days and finally win the woman he loves. The woman he wanted to spend eternity with.

Imagine loving someone and being with her everyday and for all eternity. It wasn't easy for Cassius and Stephanie to finally be a couple. But it was all worth it. I cried, I laughed and I swooned. Only Rachel can make me experience all that in one book. And not to forget the suspense she added. Always a wonderful reading experience for me that's why I always crave for her next book every time I turn the last page, for it always hold a promise of something amazing to look forward to on her next book. Rachel always put a smile on my face not only while reading the book but a smile that would last until the next one. Highly recommended and definitely a perfect 10.

I knew after finishing The Dark Ones, I wanted more. I'm glad I didn't have to wait long for it, because Untouchable Darkness was amazing! Cassius and Stephanie's story isn't a common love story for the paranormal. Stephanie is battling her own demons, and learning to be a Dark One. Cassius is forced to be human, and has to train Stephanie. She battles her inner darkness, and has to learn how to overcome the takeover. I absolutely love this series. I can't wait for Mason and Alex... I'm sad I have to wait until fall, but, I know it'll be worth it!

Untouchable Darkness is the 2nd book in the Dark Ones series. I am not normally a huge paranormal fan, but I love RVD so I went in anyway. I LOVED the first book and I was looking forward to this book. I did not like Casius in the first book. so I was definitely curious if RVD could convince me otherwise, and of course she did. And Stephanie made me mad in the first book as well, but we get more insight into her in this book as well.
I did feel like this book was a little slower than the last book, and it took me a bit to get into. I love the banter between the characters, and I can't wait for the next book. I love that the next one was set up at the end.

Amazing.. Amazing.. Amazing... Love this series!!!

This story broke my heart so many times..

Cassius and Stephanie are the main characters in this book, although you do get a lot of time with some of the favs from book 1.

You get to learn about how Cassius came to be, you get to learn what actions from book 1 caused and honestly, you get to learn what love is all about. What would you be willing to give up for the one you love?

There are so many twists and turns and secrets, you won't stop reading until the very end!

Untouchable Darkness is the second book in Rachel VanDyken's Dark Ones saga. This tale of the connection between Cassius and Stephanie lends us a look into the darkness and light that ultimately has to be chosen for their love to survive. For the survival of the immortal and human races.
Of course the author threads her special brand of humor and wit amongst the vampires, angels, wolves and demons creating a paranormal story that actually has much humor and a tear or two mixed in.

I enjoyed reading Cassius and Stephanie's story. It was different to the first book for me, with some humour, hotness and sarcasm galore. It was a slow start but after that I found it an interesting read.
We come to understand who Cassius is, why is he the way he is and what Stephanie is to him. We see snippets from many years ago and I really liked the way it turned out. We see Stephanie grow in many ways as she learns things.
I liked the characters, the general idea of the story. I really enjoy the way Rachel writes her books.

Rachel has done it again!!! This is the first series in a long time that I have read in this genre. I really recommend reading The Dark Ones before you delve into this to get the full story, but it is a stand alone novel. I did not think I was going to like Cassius! I was bound and determined...but he is so redeemable. He is the broken boy, and I absolutely love how Stephanie fights to make him whole. Add this to your must read list, knockout hit!

Untouchable Darkness
The sequel to The Dark Ones, this book picks up with the story of Cassius and Stephanie. Cassius has been turned into a mortal by his father and Stephanie has only recently learned that she is not a siren as she has believed her entire life, but she is in fact a dark one. In order for Cassius to regain his immortality as a dark one, Stephanie must fall in love with him as a mortal - something Cassius is convinced is next to impossible. However, he also needs to train Stephanie as she has no idea what it means to be a dark one and how to control her powers - a difficult task now that he is mortal. Add to the dilemma the fact that the numbers of demons are increasing at a significant rate and the improbable has now become impossible.

Rachel Van Dyken has again created an amazing story with multi-faceted characters you can't help but love, or hate as he case may be. What begins as a straight forward story about a guy courting a girl quickly becomes more complex and intriguing. The mythology that is laid out in The Dark Ones is expanded on, giving the reader a deeper understanding of various characters and their motivations. Well written and compelling read.

FYI ~ open door intimate scenes, some language

Untouchable Darkness was a good follow up to The Dark Ones. In this book we get to catch up with Cassius and Stephanie. I love that we also get bits of Ethan and Genesis plus Alex and Mason.
I absolutely loved The Dark Ones and was waiting for Untouchable Darkness, it did not disappoint.
It was well told and gave us even more history of these Angels, Demons and Dark Ones.
Cassius and Stephanies love story and history was different from Genesis and Ethans. I love seeing a different side of Cassius.
Rachel never fails to tell a compelling story and giving you romance. It is so detailed and you can imagine everything happening while reading. I love the characters as usual and can not wait for Alex and Masons stories!

This series is so unlike any other. It really puts a twist on so many of the paranormal beings that we all know and love. I had legit tears while reading this book. Cassius was such a misunderstood character in the first book but this one nails home who he is, and the struggles he has always had to deal with. I'm excited for Alex next, and even more so for Mason's story!

After reading the first book i wanted this one so bad, Lucky for me the wait didn't feel that long, I say this a lot but it's so true Rachel really really knows how to write a gripping story with characters you can't wait to read about. I loved Cassius and Stephanie's story, I couldn't put this down, And ended up read it so quickly.
