This is a good start to a potentially blockbuster series. Hopefully, Mr Heppner will continue and expand this story. I was only sorry to see it end, just as the protagonist was gaining the upper hand. Hopefully, the follow up will be coming soon.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The title is deceiving as it wasn't just a sci fi shoot em up, but smart and well written. I liked the main character Creed, especially his intelligence and rawness. You've created an interesting world full of aliens who don't fit typical stereotypes. And weaves a story full on intrigue and sit on the edge of your seat action. I hope you plan to continue.

I love space based stories, and specifically war in space. This was a decent read. I found the balance between details and "action" to be spot on for most of the book, but every now and then I felt that some of the details did not add anything to the plot - perhaps even slowing down how,the story unfolds. This did not take away the enjoyment of reading the book...and I am looking forward to the next one in the series.

Interesting story line and will read the next in it's series but I think several other books were just a little better written. Again not rising to a degree where I felt that it wasn't worth the read, because it was

Great read interesting and easy to follow plot. The storyline had me from the start with its hero blasting on to the with his first assault to his final actions at the end of the novel. It only missed a really strong Female character. Overall it was an enjoyable read.

Vaughn Heppner writes clearly, and with some knowledge of military history and tactics. His protagonist, a fellow with the unlikely and meaningful name "Creed," begins the book as a young ne'er-do-well mercenary and ends as the possible savior of a remnant humanity. The characters in this novel are thinner than comic book heroes and villains. There are far too many headlong "Charge of the Light Brigade" moments where grit overcomes any obstacle. Likewise, there are too many last minute noble gestures, unanticipated, or worse, seemingly in contradiction to prior descriptions. Always, the reader can count on a deus ex machina to pull either the protagonist's or villain's fat out of the fire. The protagonist himself is a bundle of improbable contradictions. He knows more than can be explained by his given backstory.

All that said, Assault Troopers, like many a good comic book, is a true AAA rated page turner. I"ll buy the next volume, but think I'm likely to tire of the gimmicks and gimcrackery. I think that perhaps Mr. Heppner needs a strong editor, someone who can demand a little depth be added to supplement the stirring action.

Fast paced, quick & easy read. Ive read boat loads of historical fiction and wanted to try some sci-fi. The author throws in random historical references related to battles or formation constructions. Ive read all three of these books and hope the author writes #4

Well done. A difference style of galactic warfare. We start with Earth losing! Now one man left to try to save what`s left of the human race. Told from the viewpoint of the "hero", just some guy mad as hell and making up as he goes!

Five stars for a well crafted storyline with excellent character build-up throughout the book that kept the readers hopes alive that humanity had a chance to survive. A terrific read for all ages and genders.

Assault Troopers started out slowly and seemed to have been written for the YA crowd, but as I read more I found the premise interesting and the writing more professional. It reminded me of David Weber's early writing style. I liked the characters, especially the protagonist. The author could have provided more background for the alien civilization, but again as the story progressed more details were provided. I would enjoy a sequel as it appears to me the story is far from finished and could support several more books.

great book left me wanting more but could have been a little more detailed at some points and not so detailed at other(some points the details felt like filler). But again I enjoyed the book and well read the next book .

the concepts are clean and engaging. the style echoes the classic hard sci-fi, but brings a modern flare that kept me involved and intrigued. This is the first on what promises to be an excellent series. get it, read it!

I picked this book due to the Author's reputation with me. If this book breeds a series the world will be a better place. No buyers remorse. A fresh idea from a seasoned writer. Mostly fresh. The ending has an unexpected surprise to keep me waiting for number two(2). Never saw it coming.

As a Marine Vet, appreciate well written action that flows, and is realistically dangerous. Ditto as a SciFi addict since the 50's [last century, good god!]. Of course, can't have the prime characters get popped too much! Have bought & followed this series, and I keep my name on the notification list. One of the best writers for this cost range - a bargain!

(read the first 3 books of the Extinction Wars series => posting this for all of them)
I was looking for something similar to Jack Campbell's "Lost Fleet" series and ended up here.

I enjoyed reading Extinction Wars - it's a page-turner as there is always something happening. On the other hand this was for me as well a problem, as the main character almost always ended up improvising something - I would have like a bit more strategy in the mix, and not having mostly only impulsive tactical decisions.
Other things I did not like a lot were that I did not have any attachment to the secondary characters, and that the book's universe is extremely violent (not in the way "let's kill that guy", but more in the way "let's nuke that planet, so that we'll have our revenge").

All in all I did not regret reading these first 3 books (I did not have to push), but I don't think that I'll re-read them again in the future.

A very well written, complex plot with many twists and turns lots of action and intrigue.
Compelling, and captivating, I could not put it down. Superb character development.
I have read the entire 3 book series. I wish there were more.

Fun, improbable storyline with an uneducated hero understanding the lessons of war history. Though the hero character was well defined, the secondary characters, including the villain, need more depth. I look forward to the next book.

Well, an excellent story that kept me reading all the way to the end, yes, it is first one in the series but did not finish on a cliff hanger, I liked the way it ended and yes, I wanted the new book :) . Many people will see the similarity with L Ron Hubbards book Battlefield Earth but this is a good fun military sci-fi and I really enjoy the way the hero "spars" with the robot N7 which is a bit unique and also delivers a great twist towards the end. Some unique gear in the book, not just mech armor but living armour so some great creativity in working on the equipment.

Would I buy the next one for $3.99? Absolutely, I would love to see the next step so good work and keep writing
